WHAT WILL YOU DISCOVER?Live performance, art galleries, cultural classes and camps are at the heart of Shenkman Arts Centre; a region-wide centre with a unique mingling of English and French programs and services.

For five years the Centre has been offering unforgettable moments, learning opportunities, a place for experimentation and play, and hundreds of thousands of you have joined in these experiences. We hope it has touched or even transformed you in some positive way.

This has become a home away from home for the dedicated staff, volunteers, arts partners and artists who are committed to local creative development and providing enriching and fun audience experiences. Along with you, our loyal patrons, the Centre has thrived these past five years and we thank you!

So get curious and discover what this celebratory season has to offer.

Caroline Obeid Artistic Producer and Manager Shenkman Arts Centre, City of Ottawa

WHERE ART COMES TO LIFEBehind the doors of the Centre’s two theatres, six galleries and 17 studios; in the halls, lobbies and even on the walls, there is plenty of creativity stirring. Operated by the City of Ottawa, the Centre offers a diversity of programs and activities that bring art to life in the Centre, a variety attributed to a unique collaboration with the Centre’s Resident Arts Partners: AOE Arts Council, Gloucester Pottery School, MIFO (Mouvement d’implication francophone d’Orléans), Ottawa School of Art–Orléans Campus and OYP Theatre School. The Centre is also home to Resident Company Tara Luz Danse and ARTicipate, a one-of- a-kind endowment fund that supports innovative programming at the Centre.

Over 200 shows await you this season. MIFO is the primary French presenter and the City of Ottawa programs most of the professional English shows as “Shenkman Arts Centre Presents”. Together they offer the bulk of live music, dance, theatre and comedy. The balance of shows are offered by local and national community and commercial presenters.

This is just the start. There is still so much to develop and explore nestled between artist and community, contemporary

and mainstream, craft-making and risk-taking.

For many his Christmas show is an annual tradition. We’re pleased to have him at the Centre this year to kick start the festive season.

The only tenor group with a truly global audience, The Celtic Tenors will give you a night to remem-ber. These world-class artists provide an evening to savour and a night with tenors who despite their incredible success don’t take themselves too seriously! The Celtic Tenors have established themselves as the most successful classical crossover artists ever to emerge from Ireland. In 2000, following an impromptu audition at EMI in London, the Celtic Tenors were signed on the spot to an international record deal, a highly unusual event that was the talk of the music industry.

The Celtic Tenors will release their fifth album in late 2014, just in time for this concert. It is essentially a roots album with rich harmony driven songs; a collection from North American songwriters including Stephen Foster and Bob Dylan. The Celtic Tenors continue to reinvent the whole tenor idiom by pioneering a new style of ‘cool’ never before seen on the classical stage and by breaking the traditional stuffy tenor mould.
