Lot # Lot Description Estimate

B1 .50cal Lyman Deer Stalker - Replica R 2750.00

Octagonal 25" barrel with folding leaf open sight to it, rubber recoil pad to

stock. Good to good plus condition.

B2 12ga Bobbejaanboud Circa 1820 R 12500.00

Smooth 12 bore, originally a flintlock but later converted to percussion

action. Octagon to round 41,5" barrel. The full-length stock is of attractive

straight grained stinkwood, furniture of brass with engraving to trigger

guard, complete with ram rod. Light engraving of an ostrich on lock plate.

This muzzle loader is typical of the early Cape, the stock would probably

have been made by Malay slaves as would the assembly of the barrel and

action which would have been imported from Holland or Germany. The

conversion to percussion action would probably only have been done in the

late 1830's as caps were not readily available in the platteland, suggesting

that this piece may have been in use for 40 years or more. A real item of

Afrikaner history.

B3 8br Lacy & Co Percussion Rifle R 11500.00

Dangerous game smooth bore muzzle loader by "Lacy & Co London" .

Octagon to round 28,5" Damascus barrel. Lock plate and trigger guard are

early replacements, small repair to stock. Pronounced Damascus pattern to

barrel. Pipe to barrel is an early replacement. Lacy muzzle loaders were

very popular in the Cape after the British occupation, a heavy calibre piece

such as this would have been the hunter's choice for big game such as

buffalo, hippo and rhino, possibly even elephant. The 8 bore bullet (875

grains) was often favoured over the 4 bore (17850 grains) as it had a

higher velocity resulting in better penetration and straighter trajectory using

black powder as the propellant.
