The theme of that year’s symposium was ‘Interaction and Health Care’ and 100 participants joined for the day. Speakers welcomed were: • Charles Antaki (Loughborough University – UK) • Peter Muntigl (Ghent University) • Margot Jager & Wyke Stommel (Radboud University Nijmegen) • Mike Huiskes (University of Groningen) • Bethan Benwell (University of Stirling – UK) • Mika Simonen (University of Helsinki –Finland) • Tom Koole & Debbie Jaarsma (University of Groningen) • Joyce Lamerichs & Marca Schasfoort (VU University Amsterdam) • Aija Logren (University of Tampere – Finland ) • Tine Larsen (University of Southern Denmark)

International Academy for Conversation Analysis (IACA) With the support of ISCA (the International Society for Conversation Analysis), the Language and Social Interaction group of the University of Groningen organized the first International Academy for Conversation Analysis (IACA16). IACA16 will take place in between two ICCA-conferences (2014 and 2018) and will focus on the research process rather than on research output. The academy is meant for CA researchers in all career stages, including PhD students. It will offer members of the CA community an environment to learn from each other about analytical choices, modes of analytical reasoning, and the different technologies that may support CA research.

The program comprises four 4-day workshops on the following topics: (i) ‘Interaction Organization’: Geoffrey Raymond on sequence organization (ii) ‘Actions and Activities’: Paul Drew & Merran Toerien on action formation (iii) ‘Practices’: Lorenza Mondada on embodiment (iv) ‘Contexts’: Jeffrey Robinson on medical interaction and two plenary lectures: John Heritage on the future of CA: questions to be asked and methods to be used Elisabeth Couper-Kuhlen on Interactional Linguistics: its achievements and its future

7.2 Graduate students

Graduate students and postdocs are responsible for a good deal of the day-to-day work of CLCG, including the organization of the meetings of the research groups, the organization of the CLCG colloquia, the organization of the CLCG Linguistics Lunches, the publishing of the weekly CLCG calendar, and the organization of the annual CLCG TABU Dag. The graduate students were represented on the CLCG advisory board by Joëlle Ooms. In 2016, 12 new PhD projects started, 11 in the Neurolinguistics and Language Development group and 2 in the Computational Linguistics: • Svetalana Anverina: Improvements in spontaneous speech and their correlation with brain lesion

characteristics in aphasia • Nermina Cordalija: Unaccusative and anticausative verbs in Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian (BCS) and Dutch

(exact title not known yet). • Juliana Feiden: The correlation between conceptual anaphors and time reference in aphasia. • Dorothee Hoppe: How do we learn the moon is female after all? The role of prefixes and suffixes in

second language gender learning. • Ting Huang: A dynamic study on multilingual learners' individual differences in writing competence • Anna de Koster: Interpreting events in language: an investigation of children’s development of

distributivity. • Nathaniel Lartey: Comprehension and production of focused sentences in Akan agrammatic speakers. • Leanne Nagels: The influence of the perception of voice characteristics on linguistic processing in

cochlear implant children. • Roelant ossewaarde: Automatische classificatie van MCI/PPA-patiënten met behulp van

taaltechnologie • Amélie la Roi: Idioms in the ageing brain: the effects of age-related cognitive decline on the processing

and comprehension of idioms. • Aida Salĉić: Electrophysiological correlates of morphosyntactic processing in adult dyslexia. • Rik van Noord: Analyzing meaning gaps in translation • Frans Mannie: Linguistic probes into human history
