Cree® XLamp® XP-G2 LEDs

ProDuCt DEsCriPtion

The XLamp® XP-G2 LeD builds on the

unprecedented performance of the

original XP-G by increasing lumen output

up to 20% while providing a single die

LeD point source for precise optical

control. The XP-G2 LeD shares the same

footprint as the original XP-G, providing

a seamless upgrade path and shortening

the design cycle.

XLamp XP-G2 LeDs are the ideal choice

for lighting applications where high

light output and maximum efficacy are

required, such as LeD light bulbs, outdoor

lighting, portable lighting, indoor lighting

and solar-powered lighting.

The maximum forward current is determined by the thermal resistance between the LeD junction and ambient. It is crucial for the end

product to be designed in a manner that minimizes the thermal resistance from the solder point to ambient in order to optimize lamp life

and optical characteristics.

In testing, Cree has found XLamp XP-G2 LEDs to be compatible with JEDEC J-STD-020C, using the parameters listed below. As a general

guideline, Cree recommends that users follow the recommended soldering profile provided by the manufacturer of the solder paste used.

Note that this general guideline may not apply to all PCB designs and configurations of reflow soldering equipment.

Profile Feature Lead-Free solder

Average Ramp-Up Rate (Tsmax to Tp) 1.2 °C/second

MeasurementsThe luminous flux, radiant power, chromaticity and CRI measurements in this document are binning specifications only and solely

represent product measurements as of the date of shipment. These measurements will change over time based on a number of factors

that are not within Cree’s control and are not intended or provided as operational specifications for the products. Calculated values are

provided for informational purposes only and are not intended as specifications.

pre-Release Qualification testingPlease read the LeD Reliability Overview for details of the qualification process Cree applies to ensure long-term reliability for XLamp

LEDs and details of Cree’s pre-release qualification testing for XLamp LEDs.

Lumen MaintenanceCree now uses standardized IeS LM-80-08 and TM-21-11 methods for collecting long-term data and extrapolating LeD lumen maintenance.

For information on the specific LM-80 data sets available for this LED, refer to the public LM-80 results document.

Please read the Long-Term Lumen Maintenance application note for more details on Cree’s lumen maintenance testing and forecasting.

Please read the Thermal Management application note for details on how thermal design, ambient temperature, and drive current affect

the LeD junction temperature.

Moisture sensitivityCree recommends keeping XLamp LEDs in the provided, resealable moisture-barrier packaging (MBP) until immediately prior to soldering.

Unopened MBPs that contain XLamp LeDs do not need special storage for moisture sensitivity.

Once the MBP is opened, XLamp XP-G2 LEDs may be stored as MSL 1 per JEDEC J-STD-033, meaning they have unlimited floor life in

conditions of ≤ 30 ºC/85% relative humidity (RH). Regardless of the storage condition, Cree recommends sealing any unsoldered LEDs

in the original MBP.

rohs ComplianceThe levels of RoHS restricted materials in this product are below the maximum concentration values (also referred to as the threshold

limits) permitted for such substances, or are used in an exempted application, in accordance with EU Directive 2011/65/EC (RoHS2), as

implemented January 2, 2013. RoHS Declarations for this product can be obtained from your Cree representative or from the Product

Documentation sections of www.cree.com.

rEACh ComplianceREACh substances of very high concern (SVHCs) information is available for this product. Since the European Chemical Agency (ECHA)

has published notice of their intent to frequently revise the SVHC listing for the foreseeable future, please contact a Cree representative

to insure you get the most up-to-date REACh Declaration. REACh banned substance information (REACh Article 67) is also available upon

request.

Electrical Specifications

Installation & Application Notes:

Section I – Physical Characteristics

1.1 LED Driver shall be installed inside an electrical enclosure

1.2 Wiring inside electrical enclosure shall comply with 600V/105°C rating or higher.

Section II – Performance

2.1 LED Driver has a rated lifetime of 50,000 hours @ TC <=80C.

2.2 LED Driver tolerates sustained open circuit and short circuit output conditions without damage.

2.3 LED Driver maximum allowable case temperature is 80°C – see product label for measurement location.

2.4 LED Driver reduces output power to LEDs if its case temperature exceeds >90°C –thermal protection and

eventually reduces output current to zero.

2.5 LED Driver complies with the requirements of UL, CSA, CE, ENEC, CISPR 15 Ed 7.2 and CQC (TBD).

Section III – UL Conditions of acceptability (UL File# 321253):

When installed in the end-use equipment, the following are among the considerations to be made:

3.1 The equipment shall be installed in compliance with the enclosure, mounting, spacing, casualty and segregation

requirements of the ultimate application.

3.2 The driver case must be grounded in the end-use application.

3.3 The driver is suitable for use in “DAMP” and “DRY” locations.

3.4 The secondary and dimming circuit should be considered as part of the primary circuit in the end-use application.

Apart from the DALI and 10 V circuits, dimming can also be achieved via an external non-variable resistor connected

to the leads identified as R set and Common. The resistor value is dependent on the desired output current

according to the product specification sheet and can range 620 to 1000000 Ohms for 300mA to 700mA output. 3.5 When the drivers are installed in the end-use application, the case temperature should not exceed the temperature

limits specified in the following table:

Model No. Input Voltage, Hz

929000705113 120-277, 50/60 80

3.6 The leakage current test should be repeated in the end device. In tests, as a Component, test results were higher

than 0.5 MIU but lower than 0.75 MIU.

ANSI C136.41 2014 Dimming Receptacle Standards play a key role in creating level playing fields. Without standards, the customer may end up

making a bad choice with no way out in the future. Several years ago, LEDs began to gain traction in outdoor lighting. Since that time, it became clear that a new standard was needed for intelligent photo-controls to manage the new light source, particularly since the SSL technology could be more easily monitored and undergo on-off-dim sequences more effectively than traditional HID technology. The LED technology also created a longer life scenario where future advances in controls technology might play a role in how one installs, manages and maintains the lighting, especially in an outdoor application.

Since the 1960’s, the common NEMA twist-lock photo-control had 3 pins to turn a fixture ON or OFF, typically in sync with dusk-to-dawn sunlight phases. This style was the de-facto standard in North America and several countries around the world. With LEDs now becoming so prominent, the ANSI C136 Roadway Lighting Committee, with the cooperation of NEMA, formed a sub-committee to establish a new standard. The result is ANSI C136.41, designating the interface requirement for a 7-pin receptacle and photocell. Three of the pins are identical to the age-old standard of more than fifty years. So the new 7-pin photo-control is backward compatible.

Of the four new pins (or more specifically, low-voltage “pads”), two are used for dimming the luminaire, and the other two can be used for a variety of purposes including motion-sensing, contact closure, monitoring power, two-way communications with external devices, or to event detection and subsequent next-step activity.

The sub-committee has been involved in standards-setting of lighting controls for decades. These products can now be specified - and are available - with 7-pin capability. Customers around the world can now plan on increased energy savings, product interchangeability, and the ability to plan, monitor and control outdoor lighting networks.
