It’s about Oliver, a handsome and wealthy young athlete (played by Ryan O’Neal) and Jenny, an attractive, middle-class, music student coed (played by Ali MacGraw). Oliver and Jenny meet, fall in love and get married over the objections of his father. The movie spends considerable time watching the couple fall in love in spite of family tensions, then there’s about 5 minutes of happiness when they get married. The rest of the movie focuses on tragedy as it’s discovered Jenny has leukemia and eventually dies. In one of the last scenes as she is in a hospital bed near death, Oliver is expressing regret. The music cues up and Jenny says the line that was THE LINE of the movie, “LOVE MEANS NEVER HAVING TO SAY YOU’RE SORRY.” This line sold more kleenex in the 1970’s than any commercial. It became a poster, a hit song… Love means never having to say you’re sorry. In fact, in 2005 it was voted #13 in the American Film Institute's list of 100 most memorable and meaningful movie quotes. Okay, I’m not saying people who believe this movie line contains wisdom are stupid, they just have bad luck when it comes to thinking. That has to be the dumbest relational advice ever… Love absolutely means you say you’re sorry all the time! In fact, if you’re married I’d suggest you better say you’re sorry for the things you know you did, for the things you didn’t know you did and for the times you didn’t know you needed to say you’re sorry. I suggest that you add in a couple of “I’m Sorries” a few times a day, just randomly, just to be safe. We, as a culture, are always dispensing this “common wisdom” that sounds so intelligent and emotional. It looks great on a bumper sticker, coffee mug or refrigerator magnet but really isn’t very helpful. On Sunday mornings this summer we are looking at sayings and slogans many people think are in the Bible but are not. Join us for our sermon series “That’s Not Bible” as we sift the common wisdom of culture through the truth of God’s Word. Glenn

Student Ministry News

The week of JR High CIY (from June 20th-24th) is currently all booked up. We can potentially reserve more spots but must act quickly. If you have a middle school student who wants to attend this event this summer please contact Ben Geiger as soon as possible.

May 23, 2016

SR High CIY (from July 25th-July 30th) currently has some remaining openings but will be dealt with on a first come, first served basis. Please contact Ben Geiger if you have a high school student interested in attending this event. A $50.00 deposit is required to reserve your spot and the total amount for the week $289.00. There are plenty of scholarship opportunities available. CIY is a great event for ministering to teens so we encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity.

On Saturday, May 28th, our student ministry will be meeting at the church at 9:45am to serve the Veterans of Foreign War by placing American Flags on the graves of brave soldiers who have sacrificed their lives for our country. This will take place at the Clear Creek Cemetery. Afterwards we'll be joining the other volunteers for breakfast at the VFW headquarters. Attending the breakfast is not mandatory, but the students attend-ing will return to the church sometime between 12:00 and 1:00pm.

We have an unbelievable opportunity to impact a

local neighborhood where we ALREADY have

relationships and reputation. On Wednesday

nights during June and July we will be on site at

Country View Apartments, but if we can fill a

second team of people each week we can also go

to Dorothy Apartments where there are TONS of

kids who need your influence and attention.

Can you come with us just one or two Wednesday

nights? You can lead a game or other activities OR

you can share some skill or talent with the kids for

a night. Can you demonstrate bicycle repair? Show

parts of a car? Prep a dance or cheer routine?

Paint nails? Teach CPR? Sew? Share your sport?

Anything you can do is a ministry tool!
