The Symphony, recognized as a premiere community orchestra, is a member of ASCAP and BMI. Its goals are to present classical music for the residents of the Bay Area and to provide opportunities for the Bay Area musicians to create a variety of musical experiences for the enjoyment of the community. Six regular season performances including the Christmas “Pops” will be held featuring various classical selections and guest soloists. Join the Symphony as it celebrates its 40 th Anniversary with a “Season of Music” showcasing Shakespeare’s 400 th Anniversary in musical selections from Shakespeare’s literary works. 21stClarinetist and Conductor Robert F. Wall is a native Texan. His early music training wasreceived in the public schools of Beaumont, Texas where he was inspired by the legend ofHarry James, another Beaumont native to play beautiful music. Mr. Wall received hisBachelor Degree in Music Performance from Lamar University in Beaumont, then attendedthe University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho and was awarded his Master of Music inPerformance. After serving three years in the Fourth Army Band, he did post graduatework in Music at the University of Houston. Mr. Wall has held the post of Principal Clarinetwith the Clear Lake Symphony for 26 years and in 1993 was named Associate Conductor,where he conducts the Symphony during its annual Fall "Pops" and Christmas "Pops"concerts.Mr. Wall has been active in music in the Galveston/Clear Lake area for many years. Inaddition to his work with the Clear Lake Symphony, he served as soloist and PrincipalClarinet for nine years with the Galveston Symphony under the direction of long timeHouston Symphony Principal Clarinet, Richard Pickar. He was also the OrchestraConductor for the Galveston Civic Opera production of the Mikado. Recently, Mr. Wallperformed with his jazz combo for the Crisis Pregnancy Center's annual fundraiser.

Mr. Wall was a music educator for many years and currently is in his 22nd year asInstrumental Music Director and Orchestra Director at University Baptist Church in ClearLake. With several hundred music orchestrations as part of his duties at the church, hehas also become an accomplished composer and orchestrator of small string and windensemble music which is published through Cimarron Music Press. Mr. Wall's article onclarinet and bass clarinet pedagogy is also published through LifeWay Christian Resourcesin their textbook, The Instrumental Resource.

September 18, 2015 Program Notes (excerpts from Wikipedia)

Night and Day is a popular song by Cole Porter. It was written for the 1932 musical play "GayDivorce". It was perhaps Porter's most popular contribution to the Great American Songbook andhas been recorded by dozens of artists. The song was so associated with Porter, that whenHollywood first filmed his life story in 1946, the movie was entitled “Night and Day''. Fred Astaireintroduced Night and Day on stage, and his recording of the song was a # I hit. He performed itagain in the 1934 film version of the show, renamed “The Gay Divorcee", and it became one of hissignature pieces.

I've Got You Under My Skin is a song written by Cole Porter. Written in 1936, the song wasintroduced in the Eleanor Powell MGM musical "Born to Dance", in which it was performed byVirginia Bruce. It was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Song of that year. It became asignature song for Frank Sinatra and, in 1966, became a top 10 hit for The Four Seasons.

The Sound of Music (1959) is a multiple Tony-Award-winning musical by Richard Rodgers, lyricsby Oscar Hammerstein II. It is based on the memoir of Maria von Trapp, The Story af the TrappFamily Singers. Many songs from the musical have become standards, such as Edelweiss, MyFavorite Things, Climb Every Mountain, Do-Re-Mi, and the title song The Sound of Music. It wasadapted as a 1965 film musical starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, which won fiveAcademy Awards and in 2015 is celebrating its 50th Anniversary.

Jurassic Park is the 12th project on which renowned composer John Williams worked withSteven Spielberg. He composed, conducted and produced the film's score. Williams beganwriting the Jurassic Park score for the film at the end of February, and it was conducted a monthlater. The first and main theme that is heard most frequently, is known as Theme From JurassicPark and is introduced when the visitors first see the Brachiosaurus, and features "gentle religiosocantilena lines" which Williams declares was to "try to capture the awesome beauty and sublimityof the dinosaurs in nature". This theme is widely regarded as one of John Williams's greatestthemes.

Season tickets will also be available at the opening Fall “Pops” concert on September 18, 2015 at the ticket box office. After September 18th, only individual tickets for the remaining season concert may be purchased.

One can save up to $13 by purchasing season tickets and saves time by not having to stand in-line to purchase tickets at each concert.
