Extension Opportunities: ● Make a Mask: Copy one of the masks in the book or use your own ideas. Use a paper plate, glue, string,

paint, markers, and recycled materials to make your mask unique. Now write a story or informational text about your mask.

● Make Flamenco Shoes: Make your own flamenco dancing shoes by taping a quarter or nickel to the bottoms of your shoes, underneath the toe. Discover the sounds you can make when you stamp your feet like a flamenco dancer. Tap your toes fast and slow. Make a rhythm. Perform your toe-tapping rhythm for your family or record to share with others. Be sure to ask for permission.

● Handwriting: Second graders learn to write cursive. Click here for some model pages to begin practicing writing cursive letters.

Math:

This week we will be working on: ● Addition: Adding two- and three-digit numbers with various strategies, including on a number line

First in Math Opportunities:

➔ Continue working in First in Math to build fluency and have fun playing math games! You can use the suggestions from last week or find a new 2nd-grade appropriate game on your own.

◆ Click here for a video reminder of how to get to last week’s games like Practice Gym - Subtraction and Go to 100! - Subtract .

◆ Don’t forget: Access First in Math through Clever or ClassLink .

Extension Opportunities: ❖ Four in a Row - Addition

➢ You’ve played this with subtraction, now let’s try addition! Print or recreate the cards. Then challenge a family member with your addition skills! You can even play on the laptop screen by laying it flat. Who will be the first to get four in a row?

❖ Which One Does Not Belong? ➢ Which addition sentence does not belong with the others? Remember to justify your thinking. Can

you pick a different answer and justify why it might not belong instead? Share your reasoning with someone at home or with your teacher, too.

❖ Road Rally ➢ Practice your addition and subtraction problem solving skills by racing to the finish line! If you can’t

print out the cards: write the numbers 1-10 and 21-30 on index cards, draw one, and refer to the questions...or work through each problem with your family one at a time and discuss your solution.

❖ Adding a Multiple of Ten ➢ Shuffle the cards and see if you can be the first to get 5 correct! Practice adding multiples of ten to

complete the addition sentences. Do your best to solve the problems using mental math. You can write the sentences on index cards, if needed.

❖ Addition on a Number Line

➢ Use a number line to practice adding 10 or 100 from a number you create! Instead of number cards you could use playing cards (Jack = 0 and Ace = 1), or these Online Dice (where 10 could be zero).

■ If you want or need extra practice, subtraction is included as well!

❖ Would you Rather?:

Coin Stacks

Put your problem solving skills to the test to determine which you

would rather have in each situation! Justify your thinking. You can share your answer with your teacher, too.
