Backward compatibility
• Reversible mating interface means the plug can be mated correctly the first time, every time• Provide a single solution that delivers data up to 10 Gbps, power up to 100W and A/V through
one connection. • Supports USB 2.0 (480 Mbps), USB 3.1 Gen 1 (5 Gbps) and USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10 Gbps)
• Enhanced EMI shielding on the receptacle shell helps eliminate unwanted EMI leakage • Additional board retention features compared to the industry standard footprint provide enhanced
reliability and ruggedness• With one of the smallest dual row SMT footprints, TE’s USB Type-C saves valuable board real-estate
• Allow backward compatibility to other USB connectors using converter cables or adaptors
Splash proof protection• New USB Type-C splash proof brings new functionality to the portfolio• IPX4 rated to protect against water splashed from all directions

Test EIA Standard Requirement
Insertion Force EIA 364-13 Initial force should be in the range from 5N to 20N at the max. rate of 12.5mm per minute. This requirement is exempt for connectors used in docking applications.
Extraction Force EIA 364-13 The extraction force shall be within the range from 8N to 20N both before and after the specified durability cycles. This requirement is exempt for connectors used in docking applications.
Durability EIA 364-09 The durability rating is 10,000 cycles minimum tested at a max. rate of 200 cycles per hour. There should be no physical damage to neither the connector nor cable assembly.
Cable Flexing EIA 364-41, Condition 1 There should be no physical damage or discontinuity over 1ms during flexing shall occur to the cable assembly with Dim. X - 3.7 times the cable diameter and 100 cycles in each of two planes
Cable Pull-Out EIA 364-38, Method A No physical damage to the cable assembly when the cable is subjected to a 40N axial load for a min. of 1 minute while clamping one end of the cable plug.
4-Axis Continuity Test N/A An 8N tensile force shall be applied to the able in a downward direction, perpendicular to the axis of insertion for at least 10seconds. This test should be repeated for 90 , 180 and 270 degree rotations.
Wrenching Test N/APerpendicular forces (Fp) are applied to a plug when inserted at a distance (L) of 15mm from the edge of the receptacle. The
forces shall be applied left, right, up and down and must meet the following thresholds. No damage should occur when a force of75N is applied when tested for each direction.

• The receptacle current carrying capacity is 5 A compared to the default cable assemblies that have a current carrying capacity of 3 A.
• The receptacle has a higher current rating in order to support the delivery of more power for either directly attached docking application or using specifically designed chargers, which use captive cables to implement USB PD, of 5A cable assemblies.
• Cable assemblies that can support USB PD will include an electronic marking to show the support of 5 A.
