HELP FOR SCHOOL-AGE CHILDREN WHO STUT-TER
CAPITAL DISTRICT - Stuttering is a frustrating and embarrass-ing problem for millions of people, but it can be especially tough on elementary school-age children. Help is available for parents, teachers, and speech-language pathologists at most public libraries in the form of a DVD designed to help school-age children who stutter. Some libraries have an older video version. The DVD features students from first through sixth grade, some of who talk about their experiences with stuttering. They talk openly about the teasing they face from classmates and how their stuttering sometimes makes them feel about themselves. The 38-minute DVD, entitled Therapy in Action: The School-age Child Who Stutters, produced by the 67-year-old nonprofit Stuttering Foundation is available free of charge to public libraries nationwide. Other libraries that will shelve it can contact the Foundation at 1-800-992-9392, e-mail [email protected], or visit www.stutter-inghelp.org or www.tartarmudez.org.

Oh, Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth, I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to answer me in this necessity. There are none that can withstand your power. Oh, show me herein you are my mother. Oh, Mary con- ceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee (3x). Holy Mother, I place this cause in your hands (3x). Holy Spirit, you who solve all problems, light all roads so that I can attain my goal, you who gave me the divine gift to forgive and forget all evil against me and that in all instances in my life you are with me, I want in this short prayer to thank you for all things as you confirm once again that I never want to be separated from you in eternal glory. Thank you for your mercy towards me and mine. The person must say this prayer 3 consecutive days, after 3 days the request will be granted. This prayer must be published after the favor is granted. TIPS TO HELP YOU SELL YOUR HOUSE (NAPS)—If you’re considering putting your home on the mar-ket in the coming months, there are a few tips you should follow.
House sales generally peak around June and July, with many families beginning their home search in the spring, in hopes of settling into their new home in time for the next school year.
It’s wise to work with a Realtor. According to a survey from the National Association of Realtors, 88 percent of recent homesellers used an agent. A Realtor can provide expert ad-vice and counsel on the selling process, including listing your house on the Multiple Listing Service (MLS), marketing it to prospective buyers and accepting offers and negotiating on your behalf. To find a Realtor nearby, go to www.realtor.com/realestateagents.
Know your neighborhood when setting your asking price. Realtors have real insights in the markets where they do busi-ness. A Realtor is your best source for accurate, up-to-date in-formation and comparable properties to help you determine a competitive listing price for your home. He or she will give you an idea of how long homes are staying on the market and at what price they’re selling. While it’s important to get the best possible deal for your home, a Realtor will help you understand the importance of pricing your house appropri-ately. Overpricing your home could lead to it staying on the market too long—compelling you to compromise on the asking price or terms.
Decide on how to market your home. Given the mass amounts of information available today to consumers, the days of just placing an ad in your local newspaper and putting a “For Sale” sign in front of your yard are over. A Realtor® can place your listing on the MLS and work with you to decide other ways to market your home. Marketing your listing on a popular real estate website such as www.realtor.com will ensure your list-ing is generating the most eyeballs from interested buyers.
If you’re looking to sell your home as quickly and easily as possible, you could use the real insights you’ll get having a Realtor help you through the process of finding interested buyers and eventually closing the deal.
GETTING THE BEST PRICE FOR YOUR HOUSE TO HELP FINANCE YOUR RETIREMENT
(NewsUSA) - Have you forgotten something in figuring where you're going to retire to?
Let's see, you've researched which states tax Social Securi-ty income (only 14, including Colorado, Connecticut, Kansas, North Dakota and Vermont).
And you've even consulted the numbers-crunchers at Bankrate.com to learn which states scored highest overall in everything from cost of living to access to health care (South Dakota, Colorado, Utah, North Dakota and Wyoming).
But here's a question for all you homeowners: Given the results of a new report from Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate -- 57 percent of boomers say they plan to move to a new home in retirement -- what are you doing right now to make sure your current house fetches a good price to help finance your retirement dreams?
"As people grapple with whether to pull up stakes, there's small margin for error," the New York Times' coverage of the report noted.
Here's some tips for preparing what's likely your biggest asset for prospective buyers:
* Get rid of the clutter. No doubt you have years worth of memories on display. But they're your memories. And painful as it may be, it's time to accept that not everyone appreciates having turned your den, for example, into a shrine to the '69 Mets.
"Buyers shouldn't be distracted from imagining them-selves living in your space," says Patsy O'Neill, a sales associ-ate with Sotheby's in Montclair, New Jersey.
* Think twice before doing any trendy remodeling. Espe-cially if your home is older, you may be tempted to go as far in trying to spruce things up as, say, tearing down a wall be-tween the kitchen and an adjoining room just because An-gie's List says creating the feel of more space is "one of the hottest trends in home remodeling."
Well who's to say it'll still be hot in six months or a year?
* Think "curb appeal." There's a reason roof replacement consistently makes Remodeling magazine's annual Cost vs. Value Report, and is up 11.2 percent this year over even last year: A roof is the first thing potential buyers notice -- even from down the street -- and you've already lost the sale if yours looks like hell.
"It's a huge turn-off," says O'Neill, "and makes people pre-disposed to find even more things they don't like." For the look of luxury at very affordable prices, check out the Value
Collection Lifetime Designer Shingles from GAF (www.gaf.com), North America's largest roofing manufacturer.
* Fix major maintenance and safety issues. Would you buy a house with a sputtering boiler? Enough said.

FINDING THE RIGHT FAMILY CARParents have a host of options at their disposal when the time comes to buy new cars for their families. While dad might have long dreamed of driving the fastest sports car on the market, such a vehicle does not make much practical sense when car trips figure to be made with kids in tow.
Finding the right car for a family depends on a host of factors, as what makes a good vehicle for one family will not always make a great choice for another family right down the street. When choosing a car for their families, parents can consider the following factors to ensure they choose the vehicles that best suit the needs of their broods.
Cost
While cost should not be the only consideration when choos-ing a family vehicle, parents must determine their budget be-fore beginning their search for a new ride. Aside from a home, cars are the most expensive purchase many people will ever make, which only highlights the importance parents must place on finding the right vehicles for their families. Luxury cars, SUVs and sports cars tend to be the most expensive ve-hicles on the market, and young parents just starting out or parents of school-aged kids with college educations to con-sider might find that less expensive vehicles make the most practical sense for their families. Parents also must determine if they are financing or leasing their vehicles or buying them outright. Financing and leasing often requires full insurance coverage, which can be pricey, while buying outright affords vehicle owners to choose the level of coverage they are most comfortable with. Determine insurance costs on a given
model before driving off the lot with the pedal to the metal.
Family size
The size and potential size of the family also must be con-sidered before buying a new car. Kids grow up and get big-ger, and parents who want to have more children down the road should consider just how big they want their family to be before buying a new car. Look for a car that not only suits your family now, but one that will cater to your family’s needs down the road as well. Overlooking this important fac-tor now may force you to replace the car you ultimately buy sooner than you had hoped.
Safety
Safety is the top priority for many parents as they purchase new cars for their families. Look for a car with a high safety rating and a proven track record of ensuring passengers sur-vive accidents. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (www.iihs.org) as well as the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration (www.nhtsa.gov) test and rate new ve-hicles for safety, and parents should look up the results of these tests and ratings on any vehicle they are consid-ering purchasing for their families.
Use
Family cars are rarely lim-ited to getting mom or dad
to and from work and for trips to the grocery store. Today’s kids are more active than ever before, and chances are their schedules are as packed as their parents’. Consider the many chauffeuring trips you will have to make in the years to come, and choose a car that is equipped to handle those trips. Par-ents who double as soccer coaches may benefit from buy-ing minivans that can easily store all that sports equipment, while those whose children participate in activities that take them far and wide may want a car that’s especially fuel ef-ficient.
Comfort
Luxury vehicles may provide the most comfortable ride, but parents who are not yet ready to go that route need not sac-rifice comfort in favor of practicality. Families spend lots of time in their vehicles, and summer vacations or winter holi-day road trips are that much more enjoyable when everyone is riding in comfort. While comfort might not be the foremost priority for parents, it is something to consider when buying new family vehicles.
