Exhibitors are required to submit class entries for livestock and non-livestock projects using the online Fair Entry program. Instructions are available on the Clinton County Extension website and are included on page 8 in this newsletter. Please use your Club Show Fair book to find class numbers and descriptions. Fair book may be found at: http://www.extension.iastate.edu/clinton/. *Each family should receive a fair book at their next club meeting in May or June or may pick one up at the office.

2016 Iowa State Fair 4-H Livestock Premium Book & Discount Ticket Order Form

Use of Copyright Material in 4-H Exhibits

How Clover Kids Enter Projects for Fair

The 2016 Iowa State Fair 4-H Livestock Premium book is now posted on the 4-H State Fair Livestock page at http://www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/statefair/livestock Also, you will find the Exhibitor Ticket Order form, as well as Youth Inn information.

The exhibitor discount order form for the Iowa State Fair is due July 20. Remember, all youth showing livestock or non-livestock in the 4-H divisions at the State Fair will receive one free admission ticket. Free parking passes will also be available if requested.

MISSION STATEMENT

Empower youth to reach their full potential through youth adult

partnerships and research-based experiences.

Often, we get “ideas” by observation of other’s works of art, crafts, recipes, etc. It is very important to give credit to those individuals or companies who have created materials, resources, logos, trademarks, photographs, etc. that you may want to incorporate into your 4-H project exhibited at county fair. You must request and be granted permission in order to use someone else’s material.

For more information, regarding copyright use guidelines for 4-H projects, go to: http://www.extension.iastate.edu/clinton/page/projects

Clover Kids will NOT use the Fair Entry program and will only use the paper entry form to submit entries. Clover Kids are welcome to attend Conference Judging Day and sit with a judge for project evaluation OR they may bring their project to the Fair Auditorium to be displayed with their Club’s booth. All Clover Kids classes are non-competitive, meaning that kids (k-3) may participate but will not be placed or awarded premium money.

Clover Kids Entry forms may be picked up at the Extension Office or downloaded at http://www.extension.iastate.edu/clinton/content/clinton-county-fair-entry. Entry forms are due by June 20 to the Clinton County Extension Office.

4-H Club Clean-Up at the Fair on Monday, July 11

Let’s demonstrate our skills in citizenship. Each club is required to help clean, but each year specific clubs are notified when it is their turn on the rotation to clean up the fairgrounds on the Monday following the fair. The Clubs whose turn it is to clean up must arrive on the fairgrounds at 9:00AM on Monday, July 11, 2016.

They will be responsible for picking up leftover trash and other duties. Let’s help leave the fairgrounds as we found them! This year, the Charlotte Jr. Producers, Equine Fever, and Delmar Hot Shots Clubs will help clean up the fairgrounds.

4-H PLEDGE

I PLEDGE MY HEAD TO CLEARER THINKING, MY HEART TO GREATER LOYALTY, MY HANDS TO LARGER SERVICE,

AND MY HEALTH TO BETTER LIVING, FOR MY CLUB, MY COMMUNITY, MY COUNTRY, AND MY WORLD.

Graduating Seniors

Design Elements & Art Principles for 4-H Projects

Congratulations to all of the 2016 graduating seniors! Thank you for being positive role models in 4-H and in your community. We wish you the best luck in all that you do! Please plan on attending the 4-H Award and Recognition Program at the Clinton County Club Show on Friday, July 8 in the Beef Arena. Check-in with Extension staff by 3:30 pm in the Beef Arena.

You will be receiving a short questionnaire in the mail to be returned to the Extension Office. Please let Kaitlyn Ketelsen know if you are not able to attend by calling the Extension Office or by emailing [email protected].

Design Elements

Line can be horizontal, vertical, diagonal, or curved.

Lines can vary in thickness or help create a mood.

Shapes are made from connected lines. How they

are arranged determines the design. They can be

geometric or organic.

Color is described with the words hue, value, and

intensity. Hues are names of colors. Value is light-

ness or darkness of a hue. Intensity refers to the

brightness or dullness of a hue. Light, intermediate,

and dark values define parts of objects and set off

one area of a design from another.

Texture is a surface characteristic that can be

touched or seen. Contrasting textures add interest.

Space is divided into negative and positive areas.

Art Principles

Rhythm is organized movement. Repeating an ele-

ment (i.e. lines) will produce rhythm.

Proportion compares the amount, size, or

number.

Emphasis captures your attention by unusual use of

line, shape, texture, space, or value.

Balance gives a design stability.

Radial balance -- same around a center point;

Asymmetrical balance -- dissimilar;

Bisymmetrical balance -- same on both sides.

Unity is the union of the elements in a design.

Required for all Visual Arts, Home Improvement, & Clothing Projects

4-H and Clover Kids Club Booth Decorating Contest This year’s theme for club booths is “Dive to New Depths” which is the theme for this year’s Iowa 4-H Youth Conference. Clubs will be able to set up their booths on Tuesday, July 5th AND before the auditorium opens to the public at 3 pm on Wednesday, July 6, 2016.

Each 4-H club booth is judged based on which is the best decorated on Thursday, July 7, 2016. Please remember not to hang decorations from the walls with tape. You may hang decorations on string with paperclips or hang them on a peg board.
