ClintonHighSchoolstudentsareaffordedtheopportunitytoattendCareerandTechnicalEducation(CTE)coursesattheClintonHighSchoolCareerComplex.Participationinthesecoursesisaprivilegeforourstudentsandprovidesopportunitiesforadvancedstudy/traininginareasofinterests.CTEcoursesareorganizedaroundlabsthataredesignedtosimulateactualworkplaceenvironments.Studentsusestate-of-the-artequipment,participateinreal-worldlearningopportunitiesandCareerandTechnicalStudentOrganizations,andperformcompetenciesthatarealignedwithindustrystandards.WithinthecurrentCTEmodel,studentslearnmanyoftheskillsrequiredtosucceedintheworkingworld;however,themajorityofCHScareerandtechnicalstudentsgoontoattendtwoandfouryearcollegestofurtherthetraining.

ATTENDANCE
Attendanceisvitaltoastudent’ssuccessintheseprograms.Whenyoumissadayofinstruction,itisdifficulttomakeuptheworkduetothehands-onnatureoftheclasses.
1.Eachstudentshallbeauthorizedsix(6)excusedabsenceseachsemesterifthereasoncomplieswiththefollowing:A.Personalillness;or
9B.Seriousillnessinthefamily;orC.Deathinthefamily;orD.Specialpermissionoftheprincipalobtainedinadvance
2. Aparent/guardianmustcalltheattendanceoffice,924-5332,before11:00a.m.eachdayofthestudent'sabsenceforverificationifitistobecountedasoneofthesix(6)excusedabsences.E-mailnotificationisnotacceptable.
3.UnlessspecificallyNOTEDbyaphysician,doctorappointmentswillbeexcusedonlyforamaximumofone-halfday(2blocks).4.Allstudents,especiallyseniors,arepersonallyresponsibleforaccountingfortheir
absences.Theattendanceofficewillnotbeaccountabletothestudentforprovidingthisinformation.
Parents:Pleasenotethat“SeniorSkipDay”isnotanexcusedabsence.CHSdoesnot
recognizethisday.
EXCEPTIONS
Absencesinexcessofsix(6)dayspersemestermaybeexcuseduponpresentationofamedicalstatementsignedbyalicensedphysicianoratthediscretionoftheprincipalafteranat-schoolconferencewiththeparent/guardian;however,thiswillnotautomaticallyresultintheexcusedabsence.Allmedicalexcusedabsencesmustbeturnedintotheofficewithintwo(2)daysoftheabsence.
EXTENDEDABSENCESWhenastudentisabsentformorethanfive(5)consecutivedays,thefollowingguidelinesmustbefollowed:1. Ifthestudentintendstoreceiveanexcusedabsence,he/she,uponreturningtoschool,must
presentastatementfromalicensedphysiciancertifyingspecificdatesmissedduetothemedicalcondition.
2. Thestudentanticipatinganextendedabsenceduetoamedicalreasonmustnotifyhis/hercounselorpriortotheabsenceinorderthatorderlyacademicprogressmaybemadeduringtheabsence.
3. Failuretocomplywitheitheroftheaboveguidelinesmayresultinthestudentnotbeingpermittedtocompleteforcredittheacademicworkmissedduringtheabsence.
OFFICIALABSENCESAbsencesthatareincurredduetoschool-relatedfunctionsmaybeexcusedasOFFICIALifpriorpermissionhasbeenobtainedfromtheprincipal.Ifanofficialabsencehasbeengranted,thestudentmust:1. Obtainassignmentsbeforescheduledabsenceand2. Submitcompletedassignmentstoappropriateteachersasdirectedorupondateofreturn.
10MAKE-UPWORKEXCUSEDABSENCES
Astudentwhoneedstomakeupworkmissedbecauseofanexcusedabsencemustcontacteachofhis/herteachersimmediatelyuponreturningtoschoolandsetatimewhenthemissedworkcanbecompleted.Althoughanabsenceisexcused,studentswillreceivenocreditforworkmissedunlessitismadeup.Thesubjectteacherisresponsibleforsettingareasonabledeadlineandaidingthestudentinbringinghis/herworkuptodate.Allworkmustbemadeupwithinanumberofdaysequaltothenumberdaysthestudentwasabsentuptoamaximumoffive(5)schooldays;otherwise,anautomaticzero(0)willbeassignedfortheworkmissed.
MAKE-UPWORKUNEXCUSEDABSENCESThosestudentswhoreturntoschoolwithabsencesdesignatedasunexcusedwilltakeonlyassignedtestsmissedduringtheclassperiodinadesignatedareaonthefirstdayhe/shereturnstoschool.Anystudentwhorefusesordeclinestotakehis/hertestatthistimewillautomaticallyreceiveazero(0).Noexceptions.
CHECK-OUTS
PROCEDURE:1. Anystudentneedingtocheckoutofschoolforanyreasonmust:
A. Haveonfileacheck-outcardcontainingthesignaturesoftheparentandthenamesandtelephonenumbersofotheradultswhohavebeenauthorizedbytheparent/guardiantocheckthestudentoutofschool.AnEMPLOYEEofClintonHighSchool/CareerComplexmaybelistedonlyonhis/herchild/dependent'scheck-outcard.
B. Obtainpermissionfromtheclassroomteachertoreporttotheoffice.Studentswishingtocheckoutbetweenclassesmustgetpermissionfromtheirnextperiodteacher.
C. Reportdirectlytotheattendanceoffice.
2.Inthefrontofficeanotificationcallwillbemadeandaparent/guardianoradultdesigneeshallreporttosignthestudentoutonthecheck-outcard.Proofofidentificationmayberequiredtocheckastudentout.
3. Theparentoradultdesigneeshallchecktheappropriatereasononthecheck-outcard.Ifno
reasonischeckedonthecard,thecheck-outwillbedeemedunexcused.Check-outcardswillnotbechangedoncethestudenthasleftcampus.
4. Anadministratorwillhandleallemergencysituations.5. NOTEACHERhastheauthoritytopermitastudenttoleavecampus.
116. Studentswillnotbedismissedfromschoolwhenthecommunityisunderatornado
warning.Schoolpersonnelareresponsibleforthesafetyofthestudentswhoareinthehallwayduringatornadowarning;therefore,personnelarenotavailabletocheckoutstudentsintheoffice.
EXCEPTIONS:
1. Studentswhoparticipateinanyoff-campusprogram,e.g.,CareerPathwaysstudents,willbeallowedtoleavecampusatthebeginningofninthperiodwithappropriatedocumentation.
2. Seniorswhohavepermissiontoleaveattheconclusionoftheiracademicprogram.
TARDINESSTARDINESSTOSCHOOL:
1. Allstudentswhoreporttotheschoolafterthetardybellringsforthebeginningoffirstblock
mustreporttotheattendanceofficebeforegoingtoclass.2. WHENASTUDENTISGOINGTOBETARDYFORFIRSTBLOCKATTHECAREERCOMPLEX,a
parent/guardianmustcalltheoffice(601-924-0247)BEFOREthestudentarrivestoschool.Anacceptableexcusemustbepresentedtodetermineifthetardyistobeexcused.Generally,thesameguidelinesareusedfortardiesasareappliedforabsences.NOTE:Forthosestudentseligibletorideabus,"cartrouble"isnotanexcusedtardy.
3. Ifnophonecallisreceivedorthephonecallisreceivedafterthestudentarrivestoschool,thetardywillbedeemed“unexcused”andadetentionissued.
Tardinessthatexceedssix(6)timeswillbedeemed“unexcused”andadetentionissued.

1. ShuttlebustransportationisprovidedtoandfromClintonHighSchoolandtheCareer
Complex.2. DesignatedpickupanddropoffzonesarelocatedinfrontofCHSandtheCareerComplex.3. StudentswhoridethebustoschoolandhaveafirstblockCTEclasswillneedtoridethe
juniorhighroutethatservestheirstreet.ThisinformationcanbeobtainedfromtheClintonSchoolsTransportationDepartment(601-924-7219).
4. Thefollowinggeneralinstructionsaregiventostudentswhoridebuses:A. Beatyourassignedloadingzoneontime.B. Exerciseextremecautioningettingtoandfromyourassignedbusstop.C. Talktofriendsinanormaltoneanddonotshout.D. Keephead,hands,andotherarticlesinsidethebus.E. Donotbringunauthorizedarticles,e.g.,pets,largearticles,combustibles,orweapons
onthebus.

2. Studentsarerequiredtobeontime.Cartroubleortrafficrelatedproblemsarenotcauseforexcusedtardiness.

CONDUCTANDDISCIPLINE1. ThepurposeofeducationintheClintonPublicSchoolDistrictistoaidyoungpersonsto
preparethemselvestolivetheiradultlivesatamaximumlevelofproductivity,self-awareness,happiness,self-control,andinharmonywiththeircommunity.Inaddition,thestudentsshoulddevelopaperceptiveawarenessofhighstandardsofbehavior,appearanceandgrooming.Thiswilleasethematurationayoungpersonmustmakefromchildhoodintotheworldofadulthood.Withthiseducationalpurposeinmind,theClintonPublicSchoolSystemhasdefinedtheminimumstandardsofconduct,dress,andgroomingwhichwillbeacceptableforparticipantsinthisschoolsystem.
2. Thosewhoareresponsiblefordevelopingandimplementingconductandpersonal
appearanceregulationsshouldkeepinmindthattheprimaryresponsibilityfortheconductandpersonalappearanceofastudentrestswithstudentandtheparents.Everyeffortshouldbemadetoimpressuponthestudentandtheparentsthatdisciplineandordercanonlybemaintainedintheschoolwhentheschoolisnotusedasavehiclefordisruptiveinfluence.
3. Administratorsandteachersshallholdstudentstostrictaccountfordisorderlyconductor
misconductatanyschool,onthewaytoandfromschool,atschool-sponsoredactivities,andonschoolbuses.Regardingschoolactivities,ArticleXoftheMississippiHighSchoolActivitiesAssociationstatesthat:"Thesuperintendent,principal,coach,orotherrepresentativeoftheschoolinchargeshallbetheresponsibleofficer(s)oftheschool.Theyshallberesponsiblefortheconductofthoseconnectedwiththeirschoolsandontrips,asrepresentativesoftheschoolandcommunity.
Theyshallberesponsibleforcourteoustreatmentofvisitors,bothbythoseconnectedwiththeirschoolandbyoutsiders,duringthegameorcontest.Theschoolwillbeheldresponsibleforanyactsofviolenceinstigatedbytheschoolofficials,students,orofthepartisanfans.TheExecutiveCommitteeandtheDirectorofActivitiesoftheMississippiHighSchoolActivitiesAssociation,Inc.,willrecognizenopleaofextenuationwhichsuggeststhatthoseofficersarenotresponsible."
4. Thesuperintendentortheprincipalofaschoolshallhavethepowertosuspendapupilforanyreasonforwhichsuchpupilmightbesuspended,dismissed,orexpelledbytheBoardofTrustees;butsuchactionofthesuperintendentorprincipalshallbesubjecttoreviewbytheapprovalordisapprovaloftheBoardofTrustees(Sections37-9-71and37-7-301,MississippiSchoolCode,1972).
5. Astudentsuspendedbyasuperintendentorprincipalshallbeentitledtoahearingand
reviewofhiscasepursuanttoClintonSchoolBoardPolicySectionJDD-R.
146. Otherdisciplinaryactionmayconsistofdemerits,detention,lossofprivileges,lower
gradesincitizenship,denialofparticipationinschoolactivities,probation,oracombinationofanyoneormoreofsuchactions,includingappropriateconstructiveassignmentsdependingontheseriousnessandcircumstancesoftheoffenseandtheattitudeofthestudent.
7. Teachersoradministratorsmayimposedetentionasadisciplinaryactiononstudentsfor
misconductordisorderofconductnotseriousenoughtorequireotherdisciplinaryaction.Theimpositionofadetentionbyateacheroradministratorshallnotprecludetheimpositionofotherdisciplinaryaction.Detentionclassesshallbeheldataplaceandtimetobedesignatedbytheprincipal.Anystudentfailingtoreportfordetentionattheplaceandtimedesignatedshallbesubjecttootherdisciplinaryaction.Theonlypermittedactivityofstudentsinsuchclassesshallbestudyandhomework.Anystudentservingdetentionmustprovideforhis/herowntransportation.Adetentionshallbeservedonthedayofitsissuanceorthedayafterissuance.
8. DETENTION
1. Studentsinvolvedinproblemsofaminornaturewillbeassigneddetention.Thepurposeofdetentionistwofold:(1)toserveasaminorpunishmentand(2)towarnthestudentthatanelementofhis/herbehaviorisunacceptableandmustbechangedormodified.Detentionwillbeservedeitheronthedayassignedorthenextschoolday.Uponreceivingadetention,thedetentionslipwillbesenthometobesignedbyaparentandreturnedtotheteacher.Ifastudentisassignedadetentionandfailstoinitialthedetention,anadditionaldayofdetentionwillbeassignedbyanadministrator.Studentswhoareassigneddetentionmustreporttothedetentionroompriortothe3:55P.M.bell.Studentsmaybegivenone(1)daytomakearrangementsfortransportation,ifnecessary.Thetimeastudentspendsindetentionmustbespentstudying.Allstudentsmustreporttodetentionwithbooksand/orstudymaterials.
2. Astudentwhofailstoreporttodetentionwhenassignedwillbeassignedone(1)penaltydayinadditiontobeingrequiredtomakeupthedaymissed.Shouldthestudentfailtoreporttodetentionagain,thestudentwillbeassignedtoin-schooldetentionuntilbothafterschooldetentionsareserved.Ifastudentistardytodetention,heorshewillnotbeadmittedandwillbetreatedasabsent.

7. Theonlypermittedactivityofstudentsindetentionshallbeawritingassignment.Thereforestudentsmustbringpaperandpencilstodetention.Ifastudentreportstodetentionwithoutanymaterials,anadditionaldaywillbeassignedbythedetentionmonitor.
OVERNIGHTSUSPENSION
Astudentissuspendedfromschoolattendanceuntilaconferenceisheldwithanadministratorandtheparent/guardian.Ifthestudentreturnstoschoolwithoutaparent,theywillbeplacedinIn-SchoolSuspensionuntiltheirparentcomesfortherequestedconference.Ifaparentrefusestocometotheschoolfortherequestedconference,areporttoDHSwillbemadebytheschool.
IN-SCHOOLDETENTIONStudentsplacedinin-schooldetention(ISD)willreporttotheappropriateareaatthebeginningoftheschoolday(8:25A.M.).Studentsmustbringtheappropriatematerialsforstudyingandcompletingofassignedtasks(books,pencils,pens,paper,andcomputer).StudentswillbegiventheirassignmentsbytheISDmonitor.Assignmentsthatcorrespondtoclassworkwillbegradedforcredit.ThestudentwillremaininISDfortheentireday(3:51p.m.)andwhileinISDisineligibletoparticipateinorvisitanyschoolsponsoredeventorcampus.FailuretofollowtherulesofISDwillresultinthestudentservingtheremainingdaysofISDathomeoradditionaldaysaddedtoISD.AbsencesreceivedfromscheduledclasseswhileplacedinISDwillbeconsideredunexcused.InallcasesofISD,aparentorguardian,student,andadministratorconferencewillbeheldpriortothestudent'sreturntoregularclasses.
17SUSPENSION
Suspensionfromschoolattendanceisusedincasesofmisconductorthecontinuedfailuretoabidetoschoolregulations.Allsuspensionswillhavealimitsetatthetimethesuspensionisimposed;itwillbeineffectuntilaspecifieddateoruntilcertainconditionshavebeenmet.Duringthistimeofsuspensionfromschoolthestudentisineligibletoparticipateinorvisitanyschoolfacilityorfunction.
Studentsmaybesuspendedbytheprincipal,assistantprincipalorcareercomplexdirector.Whenastudenthasbeensuspendedformorethanthreetimes,thestudentmaybeplacedinthealternativeschooloritmayberecommendedtothesuperintendentthatthestudentbesuspendedfortheremainderofthesemester.Suspensionsnormallystartthedayafteranoffensehasbeencommittedunlessdeterminedbytheprincipalthatthestudentsshouldbesuspendedimmediately.Inallcasesofsuspension,aparentorguardian,student,andadministratorconferencewillbeheldattheschoolpriortothestudent'sreturntoclasses.Alldaysmissedbecauseofsuspensionsareunexcused,andassignedtestsmissedmustbemadeupthedaythestudentreturnstoclass.
THEALTERNATIVESCHOOL
ThepurposeoftheAlternativeSchoolfortheClintonPublicSchoolDistrictistoofferaprogramforstudentswhohavenotorcannotfunctioninregularclassroomsettings;whowillbenefitfromasmallgroupsettingforaperiodoftime;orwhosebehaviorissuchthatitcurtailsordisruptsthelearningenvironmentforhimand/orpeers.TheAlternativeSchool,locatedat201EasthavenDrive,isactivatedafter"regular"interventionsforbehaviormodificationsproveineffective.
Guidelines1. AssignmenttotheAlternativeSchoolfordisciplinaryreasonswillfollowdueprocessas
outlinedinthedisciplinarysectionofthestudenthandbook.2. Ifastudentisreturnedtoschoolbyorderofanychancellororyouthcourtjudge,the
placementofthestudentshallbereviewedbytheplacementcommittee.3. AnyrecommendationforplacementintheAlternativeSchoolnotcoveredinplacement
guidelines1or2willbereviewedbytheplacementcommittee.4. UponassignmenttotheAlternativeSchool,ameetingwiththeprincipaloftheAlternative
Schoolwillbeheld.5. Ifastudentcontinuestoviolateregulationsforwhichhe/shehasbeenassignedtothe
AlternativeSchool,arecommendationforexpulsionwillresult.6. TheplacementcommitteewillrecommendtimeofattendanceintheAlternativeSchoolifnot
statedindisciplinarypolicy.

CAMPUSSECURITYANDGENERALCLASSROOMORDER1. Anystudentwhostartsadisturbanceorwhowillinglyparticipatesinonewillbesuspended
fromschool--immediately,ifnecessary--andwillreenteronlyaftersatisfactoryassurancehasbeengiveninwritingtotheprincipalbythestudentand/orhis/herparent/guardianthattherewillnotbearecurrenceofthistypeofbehavior.Theprincipalisauthorizedtorequireanystudentwhohasbeeninvolvedinafightoranyothertypeofdisturbancetoleaveschoolfortheremainderofthedaywhensuchactionisdeemednecessarytoprotectthesafetyofthestudentorotherstudents.Principalsshallmakenosuchrequirementbeforethestudent'sparenthasbeennotified.
2. Allpersonsotherthanschoolemployeesandpupilsenrolledatthatspecificschoolmustfirstgototheprincipal'sofficetosecureadmissiontothecampus;otherwise,theywillbeconsideredtobetrespassersand,assuch,subjecttoarrestandprosecution.
3. AnystudentwhohasinhispossessionanobjectthatwouldbeclassifiedasaweaponwhileonschoolgroundsorgoingtoorfromschoolwillbeimmediatelysuspendedbytheprincipalpursuanttoSectionJCDAEoftheBOARDPOLICYMANUALoftheClintonSchoolDistrict.
4. Intheeventthatthereisknowledgeofanunlawfulorviolentactwhichmayhaveoccurredonschoolpropertyorduringaschoolsponsoredactivity,theadministrationwillnotifylawenforcementofficialsimmediately.
5. Ateachingsituationwhichisconducivetolearningmustbemaintained.Therefore,anystudentwhoseactionsmakeitimpossiblefortheteachertodevotefullattentiontotheclasswillbesenttotheprincipal'soffice.Acounselorand/orprincipalwillreviewthecaseandtrytoresolvetheproblem.Astudentwhorepeatedlyhasbeensentfromclasswillbesuspendedfromschoolattendance.
CHEATING
Utilizing,receiving,orgivingunauthorizedhelponschoolrelatedassignmentsisnotpermittedandwillnotbecondonedatClintonHighSchool.Studentswhoaresuspectedof"cheating"byateacherwillbeinformedoftheallegationsinaprivateandprofessionalmanner.Ifdetermined,beyondareasonabledoubt,thatthestudentisguiltyofsuchallegations,azerowillbeissuedforthatassignment.Iftheassignmentisamajorgrade,termpaper,nine-weektests,etc.,awrittendisciplinereportwithevidenceofallegationswillbesubmittedtotheprincipal'sofficefornotificationandanOvernightSuspensionReportwillbeissuedandaconferencewiththestudent'sparentsorguardianswillbeheld.

DRUGS/ALCOHOLPOSSESSION/USEBYSTUDENTSStudentsareprohibitedfromcarrying,possessinginanymanner,usingorsellingalcoholicbeverages,morphine,marijuana,cocaine,opium,heroin,theirderivativesorcompounds,drugscommonlycalledLSD,“pep”pills,tranquilizers,oranyothernarcoticdrug,barbiturate,substanceingredientorcompoundwhichwhentakenorally,intravenously,inhaled,inanyothermanner,maycausethepersontobeundertheinfluencethereoforanyothercontrolledsubstanceregulatedbylaw.Thiswillincludeanysubstancewhichisfalselyrepresentedtobeacontrolledorcounterfeitsubstance.Likewise,nostudentshallact,aid,abet,assist,distribute,orconcealthepossession,consumption,purchase,ordistributionofanyillicitdrugsoralcoholicbeveragesbyanotherstudentorstudents.Theprovisionsofthispolicy(SchoolBoardPolicyJCDAC)shallapplytoallstudentsduringtheperiodoftimethattheyareunderandsubjecttothejurisdictionoftheClintonPublicSchoolDistrict,whileparticipatinginorgoingtoorfromanyschool-relatedactivity,atanyplacewhereaninter-scholasticathleticcontestistakingplace,duringthecourseofanyfieldtrip,duringthecourseofanytripsponsoredbytheBoard,whileunderthesupervisionanddirectionofanyteacher,principalorotherauthorityofthisschooldistrict,whensuchconductdoesormaythreatentointerferewithordisrupttheeducationalprocessorposeathreattothesafetyofthestudentorothers.Thedistrictmayrequireanystudenttosubmitadrugand/oralcoholtest(withinafivehourblockoftime)attheexpenseoftheparent/guardianifthereisreasonablesuspicionthatthestudenthasorisusingprohibiteddrugsand/oralcohol.Arefusalorfailuretotakeadrugand/oralcoholtestshallbeconsideredapositivedrugandalcoholrelatedoffense.TheconsequenceforfailuretoabidebytheabovewillbesuspensionwithAlternativeSchoolplacementbutnotlimitedtoexpulsionfromschool.ClintonPolicewillbenotifiedofanysituationinvolvingdrugsand/oralcohol.
USEOFALERTDOGTODETECTILLEGALDRUGS
Whendeemedappropriatebytheprincipalorthesuperintendentofschools,an"AlertDog"maybeusedtodetectillegaldrugsuponorwithinallfacilities--grounds,lots,vehicles,buildings,andthefurnishingstherein,includinglockers.Ifthepresenceofdrugsisindicatedwithinanyofthesaidfacilities,thestudentorotherpersonpermittedtousethefacilitywillbenotifiedandifrequestedgiventheopportunitytobepresentwhenthefacility(locker,desk,cabinet,vehicle,etc.)isopenedandsearched.Ifillegaldrugsarefound,aninvestigationwillbeconducted,andappropriatedisciplinaryand/orlegalactionwillbetakenagainstthepersonorpersonsresponsibleforbringingand/orpossessingsuchdrugsontheschoolcampus.
20TOBACCOUSE/POSSESSION
Tobaccouseand/orpossessionofisnotpermittedanywhereoncampusincludingparkingareas.Thepenaltyforuseand/orpossessionofisathree-dayoutofschoolsuspension.Therewillbenoexceptionsonthisrule.Thisrestrictionalsoincludesanyitemsorsubstancesusedassubstitutesfortraditionalmethodsoftobaccouseanditsparaphernalia.
OFFICEANDOFFICEPROCEDURES1. Theschoolofficeisforbusiness.Whenastudenthasbusinessintheoffice,he/sheshould
givethesecretaryhis/hername,whomhe/shewishestosee,thegeneralnatureofbusiness,andthenbeseated.Whenthestudentcanbeseen,he/shewillbeescortedtotheproperoffice.Attimesitwillbeimpossibleforthestudenttobeseen.Thestudentwillberequestedtoreturntoclassandwaittobecalledtotheoffice.
2. Astudentsenttotheofficeformisbehaviorwillwaituntilhehasbeenseenbytheadministrator.Failuretoreporttotheofficefordisciplinaryreasonsmayresultinadditionalpunishment.
3. Studentswillnotloiterintheoffice.Nostudentistocomebehindthecounterintheofficeunlessinvitedbyastaffmember.
CORRIDORTRAFFIC
Inpassingtoandfromclassesandgoingtolunch,studentsshouldwalkontherightsideofthehallways.Congregatingingroups,walkingseveralabreast,andstandinginthehallwaysblocksthenormaltrafficflow.Teacherswillenforcetheseguidelines.Undernormalcircumstances,unlessastudentisusinghis/herlocker,he/sheshouldkeepmoving.
STUDENT-TEACHERRELATIONS1. Studentswillnotbeabusedormistreatedbyteachers.Atthesametime,wedonotexpect
teacherstobemistreatedbystudents.2. Whenastudentfeelsthathehasbeenmistreatedbyafacultymember,heshouldcomply
withtheteacher'sinstructionsandthenarrangetoseeanadministratoraboutthematter.Actionwillbetakentoresolvetheproblem.

SCHOOLSPONSOREDDANCESNon-studentswhoaccompanyacurrentstudenttoaschooldancemusthavepriorapprovalfromtheadministration.TheymustabidebyallrulesandregulationsofClintonHighSchool.FormerstudentsofCHSwholeftschoolfordisciplinaryreasonsarenoteligibletoattendschoolsponsoredfunctions.Currentstudentswhoaresuspended(duringthetimeofthedance)oratCASfordisciplinaryreasonsarenoteligibletoattendanyschoolsponsoreddance. UNAUTHORIZEDUSEOFBUILDINGSHangingflags,signs,etc.,fromtheroofofthebuildinghasbecomeasourceofvariousproblemsatClintonHighSchool.Studentsarenotallowedontheroofofanybuildingonthecampusatanytimeduringorafterschoolhours.Anystudentwhoisidentifiedbyauthoritiesasbeinginabuildingwillreceiveanautomaticthree-daysuspension.
REMOVALFROMSCHOOLSPONSOREDEVENTS

STUDENTBULLYING
StudentsandemployeesintheClintonPublicSchoolDistrictareprotectedfrombullyingandharassingbehavior,whetheronoroffcampus,byotherstudentsoremployees.Bullyingorharassingbehaviorisanypatternofgesturesorwritten,electronicorverbalcommunications,oranyphysicalactoranythreateningcommunication,oranyactreasonableperceivedasbeing

Racialharassmentconsistofphysical,written,symbolic,orverbalconductorcommunicationrelatingtoanindividual’sracewhentheconducthasthepurposeoreffectofcreatinganintimidating,hostileoroffensiveworkingoracademicenvironment,orhasthepurposeoreffectofsubstantiallyorunreasonableinterferingwithanindividual’sworkoracademicperformance.Appropriatedisciplinaryactionsmayincludebutarenotlimitedtocounseling,awarenesstraining,parent-teacherconference,warning,suspension,exclusion,expulsion,transfer,remediation,termination,ordischarge.Schooldistrictactiontakenforviolationofthispolicyshallbeconsistentwiththerequirementsofdueprocess.
FIGHTING
TheClintonPublicSchoolDistricthasthesafetyofstudentsasapriority;therefore,nostudentwillbeallowedtofightortohitforanyreasononthewaytoschoolandfromschool,whileatschool,oratanyschoolevents.Astudentwhofightsorhitswillbeimmediatelysuspendedfromschool.Itistheresponsibilityoftheschoolstafftodisciplineastudentwhofightsorhits.Fightingisdefinedasaverbalorphysicalexchangecausingadisruptionoftheeducationalprocess.Thisincludesstudentswhoattemptorengageinphysicalcontact,studentswhoinvadeanother’spersonalspaceinathreateningmanner,orstudentswhointentionallybehaveinsuchawaythatcouldreasonablycausephysicalinjurytoanyperson.Anystudentinvolvedinfightingor

GangrelatedorunauthorizedgroupactivitieswillnotbepermittedatClintonHighSchool.Participationinanyunauthorizedcluborgangactivityincluding,butnotlimitedto:thedisplayorpossessionofgangsymbols,handsignals,solicitingothersformembership,requestingthepaymentofdues,insurance,orotherformsofprotectionfromanyindividualorgroup,wearingorotherwisedisplayingcolorsoritemsofdress,etc.,intimidatingorthreateninganyindividual,orincitingotherstoparticipateinanyformofphysicalviolenceinvolvingpersonsorpropertywillnotbetoleratedandwillresultinanappropriatedisciplinaryaction.
DESTRUCTION/DEFACEMENTOFSCHOOLPROPERTYAnystudentingradeseven(7)orabovewhovandalizes,destroys,ordefacesschoolpropertywithpaintorotherwise,orwhofloodsaschoolbuildingshallbesuspendedfortheremainderofthecurrentsemesterandshallbereadmittedatthebeginningofthenextsemesteronlyafterthestudentand/orhis/herparent/guardianprovidesanassuranceinwritingthatsuchbehaviorwillnotberepeated.Inaddition,theparentorguardianshallberequestedtopaythecostofrestoringthedamagedordefacedproperty.TheSuperintendentofSchoolsisauthorizedtoofferarewardnottoexceed$100.00toanypersonwhoprovidesinformation,whichleadstotheidentityandconvictionofanypersonwhohasdamagedordefacedschoolproperty.
NOOPENCONTAINERPOLICY
Inanefforttoprovideasafeandorderlyenvironmentforourstudents,parentsandfaculty/staff,campusescontaininggrades6-12areenactingaNoOpenContainerPolicyforeachcampusandallschoolsponsoredevents.Allopencontainers,i.e.paper,plasticandStyrofoamcups,mustbediscardedpriortoenteringadesignatedschoolfacilityorschool-sponsoredevent.Sealedcontainersmaybecarriedintothebuildingorschool-sponsoredeventbutaresubjecttoinspectionbyschoolofficials.
GUMCHEWINGGumchewingisnotpermittedoncampus.Student’sdetectedchewinggumwillbeassignedtodetention.

DRESSCODE (SchoolBoardPolicyJCDB)1. Allstudentsareexpectedtoobservecertainminimumstandardsofhygiene,sanitation,and
personalappearance.Thefollowingregulationsaretobeobservedbyallstudentswhenparticipatinginanyschoolrelatedfunctionoractivitywithexceptionofathleticuniformsduringcompetition.Anystudentviolatinganyoftheseregulationswillbesubjecttoappropriatedisciplinaryaction.Dresscodeviolationsmaybereportedbyateacher,astaffmember,oranadministrator.
Itisvirtuallyimpossibletowritearegulationwhichwilladequatelycovereverydetailofappropriateconductanddress.Therefore,itisnecessaryfortheadministratorofeachschooltomakejudgmentsastowhetherastudentisproperlygroomedanddressedand/orismanifestingappropriatebehaviorastonotcauseadisruptionorinterferencewithschoolactivities.Weareattemptingtoeliminateasmuchconfusionaspossible,soourattentioncanbeturnedtoeducationalpursuits.
2. IfaninfractionofDressCodecausesastudenttobeoutofclassmorethanone-halfofthe

IHL Board Policy §602.B. FULL ADMISSION Full admission to any of the eight public universities will be granted to the following:
1. Complete the College Prep Curriculum (CPC) with a minimum 3.2 high school grade point average (GPA) on the
CPC; OR
2. Complete the CPC with a minimum 2.5 high school GPA or a class rank in the top 50 percent and a score of 16
or higher on the ACT* (Composite); OR
3. Complete the CPC with a minimum 2.0 high school GPA on the CPC and a score of 18 or higher on the ACT*
(Composite); OR
4. NCAA Division I standards for student-athletes who are “full-qualifiers” or “academic redshirts” are accepted as
equivalent to the admission standards established by the Board.
*In lieu of the ACT scores, students may submit equivalent SAT scores. permitted to take reading-intensive courses, such as History. Students with a minimum ACT Reading subtest
score of 15 who have completed the Mississippi Department of Education approved literacy transitional course
course with a grade of “80” or higher will not be required to take Intermediate Reading.
D. Students taking two or more intermediate courses must enroll in the year-long Academic Support Program or
some other IHL-recognized intervention strategy to promote success in the courses in which they are not fully
prepared, according to ACT subtest scores and will not be permitted to take more than 17 hours.
E. Intermediate courses may be delivered through a co-requisite model coupled with a credit bearing gateway
course.
F. Regarding course placement using an ACT subtest score, exemptions to this policy based on prior high school
course performance, postsecondary course performance, or other academic experiences must be approved by
the institution’s Chief Academic Officer or designee.
