• Provides a balanced schedule of academic courses and a concentration in:• Career Technical Education (CTE)• Arts• JROTC

• Provides student with the options they need to select the best path to meet their life goals

Future-Ready Core Graduation RequirementsFuture-Ready Core Graduation Requirements

• 4 English• I, II, III, IV

• 4 Math• Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra II• 4th math course to be aligned with

student’s post-secondary plans

• 3 Science• Earth/Environmental Science• Biology• A physical science (Chemistry, Physics,

or Physical Science)

• 4 Social Studies• Civics/Economics• World History• US History

Future-Ready Core Graduation Requirements

• 1 Health & PE• 13 Electives (minimum)

• 2 Electives from Arts, CTE, or Second Language

• 4 additional electives in any of the following areas:

• Career Technical Education (Career Clusters)

• Fine Arts (Band, Theatre, Visual Arts)

• Other subject areas of concentration (math, science, social studies, Second Language, English, PE, JROTC)

To Earn a Concentration in CTE

• Must take at least (4) technical credits from courses in a Career Cluster

• A minimum of three (3) technical credits must come from the Foundation Courses

• Complete a second level course listed in the Foundation Courses (Indicated by *)

• The 4th technical credit can be either a Foundational or Enhancement course in a Career Cluster

Why a Career Cluster?

• Helps you make an informed career plan

• Encourages you to prepare for careers/jobs which will be in the greatest demand & follows the most current business trends

• Helps you to begin to choose a career that best fits your talents & capabilities

UNC System Course Requirements

• High School Diploma• Four Units of English• Four Units of Math (including

Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry • and a higher level math course)

• Two Units of Social Studies (including Civics and US History)

UNC Systems Course Requirements Continued

• Three Units of Science (including a life science, Physical Science and a laboratory science)

• Two Units of the same Second Language

UNC Minimum Admissions Requirements (entering 2013)

• The minimum combined SAT score (math and reading) for admission is 800 or a composite ACT of 17

• The minimum high school GPA for first time freshmen is 2.5

NC Academic Scholars Program• Unweighted GPA of 3.5 or higher• Four Units of English• Four Units of Mathematics (including

Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II and a higher level math)

• Three Units of Science (a Physics or Chemistry, Biology, and Earth/Environmental Science)

• Three Units of Social Studies (World History, Civics/Economics, and US History)

NC Academic Scholars Program• Two Units in a language other than

English (the same language)• One Unit of Health and Physical

Education• 4 Units in a CTE concentration, Arts,

Languages or JROTC• Elective Units to include at least three

second level CTE or AP/Honors courses

Promotion Requirements• Promotion to 9th Grade …….. Successful

Completion of 8th Grade

• Promotion to 10th Grade …… Successful Completion of 7 units which must include English 9 and one unit of math

• Promotion to 11th Grade …… Successful Completion of 14 units which must include English 10 and one additional unit of math

• Promotion to 12th Grade ……. Successful Completion of 21units which must include English 11 and one additional unit of math
