Cloncurry State School 1

With the final school newsleer upon

us for 2012, it is me for Farewells and

Thankyous.

To our wonderful staff and P&C, I give a

sincere thank you for your commitment

and contribuon to the educaon of the children in

Cloncurry . As I reflect on all events and achievements

across the year, my head spins at what we have achieved.

The School Magazine is testament to that! In the area of

academia we embarked upon the implementaon of the

new Australian Curriculum with complete professionalism

and student results have been excellent. As they say …’the

proof is in the pudding’…and the dessert has been very

sweet. BIGGER and BETTER in 2013!!!

To our wonderful parents and carers, volunteers and

community persons, thank you for the support you have

given. It is not a secret, in fact it is proven in research, that

children learn best when ‘the home’ and the ‘school yard’

are working cooperavely together…remembering the

proverb that it takes a enre village to raise a child. 95%

Aendance has been our target all year and it is fantasc to

have so many children reach it…sickness and all! Every

child, every day, at school, learning!!!

To our families who are moving on, we wish you all the best

and may Cloncurry State School forever hold a special place

in your heart. Please keep in contact as we love to keep

track of our past students and families.

To our wonderful staff leaving, we thank you. We will miss

you for all you have done in our school and all the ‘extra

miles’ you have given to support children, not only in our

own school but the enre community of Cloncurry. We

know we hold a special place in your heart, besides once

Hi Folks. There are only 3

days of school leX and we

sll have quite a few

students who haven’t

handed in their Library

books. Please look around

at home (on the bookshelf,

in your school bag, under

the bed) and return these

items before the holidays

start.

Overdue noces were handed out this week, on Tuesday

aXernoon.

Remember the office is open all of next week so if you find a book

aXer the end of this week please hand it to the Admin ladies.

Thankyou, Miss Baker

Gladiator's are you ready

Saturday the 1st

was a summer day

where the heat was not only rising

outside but also inside the with

atmosphere building and challengers

facing up against the Gladiators.

PCYC Chill Out Program had another

successful event with “Gladiators”.

The course was set. The challengers

were ready to go. As the call rang out

“Gladiators are you ready”, and the roar

came back, the look on the challengers

was bring it on, although I do think I saw

fear in some of their eyes. On the

course, they first had to get

through the big bad Santa

and his huge boxing gloves

then set up the pyramid to

face off against the

Commando. Down from

there, skip into moon and

crash through Spartacus (aka

Mr Tidball). Once through,

stay steady as Iron Maiden

and Julius Caesar (aka Miss

Kim Sing) tried to knock them

off course. To connue

through the tunnel of

turmoil, bounce through

hindrances ahead, not to be

out done by balls crashing around thrown with great force from

Medusa (aka Miss

Patch). AXer

surviving the

onslaught of the

balls to catapult

themselves over the

great wall to face

the Morph and

reach the finish line.

We are happy to say

all survived and that

Mike Coffison was

the winner of the

day. All challengers went home with a prize.

PCYC and Chill Out have other programs running over the holidays

so look out for the calendar and get involved we would love to see

more involved. The kids are always asking for things to do, and

here is a great opportunity to

give them something to do with

no cost thanks to

See you at the next event.

Year 10-11 Semi Formal Leadership Dinner

On Thursday night the PCYC had the pleasure of hosng a Semi

formal for the year 10-11 students who will be the senior leaders

of 2013. It was a night where the students were able to dress up

and celebrate the big effort they had put into the year of 2012.

The Girls glammed and the boys scrubbed up well for a night of

leUng their hair down. A big thank you to the Post Office Hotel for

the night. The spread was remarkable. We started with mocktails

and entrée and then headed inside for the mains and dessert.

We had the opportunity to have a chat about being prepared for

2013. To make sure to stay focused and set the BIG ROCKS in your

life first such as school work with all the assessments and study. If

you let all the lile things get in the road there will be lile room

for the BIG ROCKS. To be responsible and know that they are the

role models for 2013. As this was a “Chill Out Event” we had to

touch on Binge Drinking and Partying and so to have a successful

2013 you need to be responsible on the decisions you make.

The night finished with dancing and leUng their hair down show-

ing that you can have a great me without the aid of alcohol.

Yes, believe it or not parents, the preppies have

made it to Week 9, Term 4.

This year has certainly flown and holidays are nearly

upon us and personally and professionally, what an

amazing year it has been. Watching the shy, quiet

preppies who arrived at the beginning of the year transform into

energec and enthusiasc learners ready to move onto Year 1.

I have had the best me this year and I have grown as a teacher

and learnt so much myself.

A few reminders for the last week of school

P-3 Parade on Wednesday morning at 9am in the Library/

Resource Centre – all welcome

Our last swimming session is on Wednesday aKernoon at 1.30 –

all welcome. The students received their swimming cerficates

last week plus a small giK bag. I would like to say huge thank

you to Miss Stacey, for all her work with the preps and

providing the cerficates and giK bags

Xmas Pageant on Thursday at 11am in the undercover area, to

be followed by our class celebraon and presentaon in the

classroom – all welcome

To end off, I would just like to

say on behalf of Mrs Wood and

myself, thank you to the

students, parents and families

for giving us such a wonderful

year and we wish you a Merry

Christmas and a Happy New

Year and unl next year when

we all meet again, have a safe,

happy and res\ul holiday.

Mrs Nola McClafferty and Mrs Lesley Wood.

Welcome to our last week of year one and Prep! What an

amazing year it has been! Miss Childs is away so I get to enjoy the

last week with the wonderful Rainbow B class. This week we are

going to be concentrang all our efforts on pracsing for our

Christmas Pageant on Thursday at 11 am. Please come along if

you can or send another family member to support our children’s

performance of The

Six White Boomers.

Please can you also

pracse the words to

our song at home so

students are able to

perform at their best.

This week we will also be

spending some me in the

computer lab working on our

reading eggs program and in

class we will be compleng

our Christmas booklet. Don't

forget we also have Primary

Parade on Wednesday

morning! Wishing everyone a

wonderful last week and a safe and Merry Christmas.

Cheers and best wishes

and teachers of Purple and Yellow classes. The students have

shown tremendous growth in their learning and have

formed strong social networks.

We would like to thank all parents for their support this year.

A special menon to Miss Kae Waskiw for giving up her me

everyday to help out in Purple Class. Your connued support of

the children has been wonderful!

Please ensure that your child is sll coming to school each

day this week as their is lots of learning sll happening. Don't

forget primary parade Wednesday morning at nine o'clock

and the Christmas Concert on Thursday at 11 o'clock.

Have a wonderful and safe holiday. Looking forward to seeing

you all back next year.

Happy Holidays

I am struggling

to comprehend

that this is the

end of Term 4,

the end of the

2012 school

year! My poor

kids!!! We are

sll working

hard to

complete bits

and pieces and

of course we

have our Poetry

Café tomorrow

(Wednesday)

morning! I think

I took the

Director

General’s direcve to provide meaningful learning experiences to

the end of term, a lile bit too seriously!

I have had a wonderful year with your

children. They are all great kids, with

massive potenal for the future. Thank

you for puUng them into my care, and

for your support throughout this year! I

wish you all the very best for Christmas

and the holidays and that the new year

brings you all, really special things for

2013.

Signing off for 2012

Yours

Dedicated to bringing excellence in educaon to ‘The Outback’

Warm regards Miss Lizzie (Elizabeth Keim)

Welcome to the final school week

for 2012!

I would like to congratulate the

children in Blue Class on their

wonderful efforts this year. I have

very much enjoyed working with

these fun, friendly and fabulous

individuals. I have loved being a

part of their growth as learners and

as human beings, as their teacher in

2012. I wish all of my year fours the very best for the future. A

big thank you to Kylee Ferguson who has helped out with reading

groups throughout the year. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you also to Jasmine Wanchap, Fiona Anderton, Felicia

Sarmardin and Agnes Martel who volunteered their me to help

us with our Christmas cooking in the Home Economics facilies

on Monday.

We really appreciate

your kindness and our

Christmas cooking

wouldn’t have been able

to happen without you!

We made Rocky Road

Slice, Apricot Balls and

Gingerbread Cookies.

The students worked in

four groups and the

teamwork on the

day is a credit to

the students. This

acvity was an

enjoyable success

for all. Thank you

to Editha, Val and

Feryl, our

wonderful teacher

aides who worked

with us on the day.

We look forward to seeing

many of you next Thursday

at the Christmas Pageant.

Year 4 Students have been

working hard on a special

song wrien by Miss

Warren that is about the

special people in our lives

who make the world a

beauful place to be.

This Thursday will be

the debut

performance of this

song.

Included this week

are some pictures of

us making our

Christmas Goodies.

Wishing you and your

families a safe and

enjoyable Christmas

holiday break and see

you in 2013!

Warm Wishes,

Miss Katrina Madigan

Wow this year has gone so fast!! This is the last newsleer item

for the year and the last for me as a teacher at Cloncurry State

School. In this newsleer I just want to do a bit of a reflecon

over the year.

We started using the Naonal

Curriculum which was a bit of

a change but we adapted

well. In English we learnt a lot

of new skills including wring a character descripon, a comic

including a moral dilemma, a news arcle,

a comparison and a film review!

In Science we learnt about adapons, the

Solar System, light and maer. We did a

range of experiments and some enjoyable

assessment tasks and it was great to see

the students really geUng involved and

learning.

In SOSE we started

off learning about trading and how

objects can have a different value

including senmental or monetary. We

then moved on to learn about town

planning and we designed our own town.

In term three we learnt about the

Olympics and had to research an

Olympian and aend a press conference

answering quesons as if they were that

Olympian. This term we were learning about mapping and we

now know the different states and capital cies of Australia as

well as the connents of the world. All in all we have learnt a lot

in SOSE this term. In Maths and the Arts we

learnt in magnitudes. I

think most students will say

how much they enjoyed

doing our dance as a flash

mob on parade in term

two. We then inspired a lot

of students to start

dancing! We have also

enjoyed media, visual arts and drama. Our learning has been

enormous in all our learning

areas. This week we connue

to work and learn along with

celebrang a lot of our

successes for the year! Congratulaons Red Class and

all the best for your future!

Dear parents/caregivers

Well it is the end of another school.

I have had a fantasc year working with year 6 students and their

parents.

My class News segment is short this week as my typing ability is

very limited. I only have on arm in use. Yes, I took the challenge

of the Mechanical Bull. Some would say I lost but Ms Norton says

I must have great potenal as all good Bull Riders get injured.

I hope everyone has a safe, relaxing and enjoyable Christmas

break.

See you next year.

Rachel Rozynski
