“The team was founded 4 years ago by Justin Kiviat,” said Mark Cole, a junior on
the club baseball team. In 2008 the
team played a short exhibition season, playing teams that
were not necessarily in conference before joining the fall only
league New England Club Baseball Association and the
National Club Baseball Association spring league. Kiviat graduated in 2009.Photo by: Jaimi Welch
Cole said the team no longer has a distinct fall and spring league due to budget cuts. They now belong to
one league. Previously the fall conference meant nothing and the spring season was what counted. The team now only belongs to the National Club Baseball Association.

To make the team you have to try out in the fall, said Cole. Players who are already on the team decide who to accept and who to cut each year. Cole said there are tryouts in
the spring in special circumstances.

The team is required to do community service because they are a club sport, said Cole. He said their community service projects have included
picking up trash on campus and hanging out with underprivileged kids in Winsted community center.

The UConn club baseball team
is involved with national rankings
that rate the top 25 teams in the north east, many other clubs don’t. “The
team was not ranked because they
recently merged into division one from division two,” said
Cole.
