SPORT PRACTICAL INFORMATION FOR ALL SPORTS

■ Physical conditions, precautions and facilitiesThe Club Med policy on sports activities is based on the expert training of all our G.O®s, and on regular information from our heads of department and teams. This policy is the result of the many years in which we have striven to provide you with top-quality sports.

You are strongly advised to follow the safety rules and instructions given by the G.O®s and posted on billboards around the Resorts, close to the access points of the sports facilities. You must always take your physical capabilities into account before engaging in any sport, and never overestimate what you are capable of (especially concerning the condition of your muscles and heart). You should also warm up beforehand and take regular breaks during exercise,

SNOW SPORTS(1)

■ Learn at your own pace● Skiing in small groups of the same skill level. As soon as you arrive at the Club Med Resort, you enrol with the person responsible for skiing activities for the lessons most suitable for your skill level (from beginner to expert). The following day(5), our specialist G.O® staff will be waiting to test your ability so that they can put you in a small group of around 9 to 12 skiers of a similar level, depending on the Club Med Resort.

● Attentive professional instructorsSki instruction requires a particular teaching method, one that allows everyone to progress in an enjoyable and completely safe way. Group lessons are given by professional ski instructors, all of whom are fully qualified in their respective countries. They provide tuition to each group through suitable programmes, giving each individual their personal advice.

● Beginner skiersLessons for beginner skiers/snowboarders are provided to G.M® staying at least 7 days in a Club Med Resort for holidays commencing on that Resort’s main change-over day, Sunday.

HIGH QUALITY EQUIPMENT TO HIRE ON SITE

Every Club Med Resort can offer you a ski equipment rental option at Ski Service Club Med®*. In a real store environment, it can offer you high quality equipment chosen from the latest models of the best brands on the market. Our expert technicians on site will also help you to maintain your own equipment.

Top-quality equipment, in pristine condition, is available for you to enjoy.

CLUB MED HAS IMPLEMENTED A COMPREHENSIVE AND RIGOROUS HEALTH POLICY IN EACH OF ITS RESORTS. WE DO, HOWEVER, ADVISE YOU TO TAKE A FEW PRECAUTIONS BEFORE YOU DEPART AND FOR THE DURATION OF YOUR STAY.

HEALTH

BEFORE YOUR DEPARTURE● Your family’s state of health

where exactly you intend to travel. Your doctor will be able to tell you whether your planned holiday or travel arrangements are advisable given your current state of health, especially if you are undergoing medical treatment, suffer from a chronic illness, are pregnant, have a very young baby, or are likely to suffer an allergic reaction to certain foodstuffs, insects or insecticides (the latter are regularly sprayed in some of our Resorts, within legal limits). You should also discuss the validity of your vaccinations and those of your children with your doctor. Club Med will not reimburse the cost of any holiday or other extra expense incurred (cancellation, repatriation, hotels, taxis, etc.) if you do not comply with the health regulations applicable to you.

Once your doctor has authorised your decision to travel, do not forget to take with you sufficient quantities of any medication that you might be taking, and, if necessary, medication to prevent malaria, or any other necessary prescriptions, bearing in mind the adverse effects that some photosensitive medicines may have. Moreover, if you are planning to practise a sport more intensively than you are accustomed to, please ensure that you train properly beforehand and do not simply assume that you have the necessary level of physical fitness required.

● Pregnant womenClub Med strongly advises pregnant women not to go skiing or to do any sport involving a risk of falling. Moreover, it is recommended that pregnant women avoid making long journeys during the third term of pregnancy.

DURING YOUR FLIGHTTo improve your blood circulation on long-haul flights, we advise you to drinks lots of water, frequently walk around the aeroplane,

recommend that any passengers suffering from vein problems and taking prescription drugs wear class 2 compression socks.

YOUR STAY● Some rules on basic hygieneClub Med is very careful to ensure that all members of staff at its Resorts adhere to rules on basic hygiene, and we ask you to do the same. Maintaining good physical hygiene is an effective way of preventing a significant number of illnesses and containing

● Food safety precautionsClub Med ensures the highest standards of food safety by carrying out health checks at every stage of food preparation at its Resorts.

■ Club Med’s supreme commitment to your health● A well-managed policy, with informed adviceClub Med has incorporated hygiene, health and safety in its quality standards in order to ensure better individual and collective protection of its customers. Club Med’s policy in this regard, which is based on many years’ experience in health travel, is founded not

preventive measures, including regular and rigorous health and hygiene checks conducted at all its Resorts. These measures focus on food hygiene, overall hygiene in buildings and the surrounding environment (preventing Legionnaire’s disease, and controlling water systems, air-conditioning, and both swimming-pool and drinking water), safety and medical assistance.

● Public health is our priorityClub Med is fully aware of the consequences of smoking, nicotine addiction and the related effects on health, and supports anti-smoking initiatives. Consequently, it has banned smoking in all public indoor areas.

Sexually transmitted diseases, meanwhile, do not recognise borders and some of them may lead to serious complications.

■ Health benefits● Medical assistanceAt some Resorts, depending on the local medical services available, a nurse and/or doctor will be on hand to provide you with medical assistance and any care you may require. Unless they are required to give first aid treatment in an emergency, they cannot take the place of a local doctor, who is the only person fully authorised to prescribe medicine and/or administer

Should you have an infectious disease, in the interests of both your own protection and everyone else’s, Club Med reserves the right to send you home or, depending on medical advice, at least either hospitalise or isolate you until you have made a full clinical recovery.

● People of reduced mobilityIf you are travelling by aeroplane, you must inform our partner

prior to departure, so that they can make the necessary arrangements.

To find out which of our Resorts have facilities for people of reduced mobility, please consult your travel agent.

■ Tips and advice for a trouble-free holidayTo make your holiday as stress-free as possible, both you and your children should carefully follow the set of simple health precautions

You are advised to apply insect repellents suitable for tropical regions to both your skin and your clothing during certain times of the day and periods of the year. Most stomach disorders are often not very serious and clear up after a few days by treating the symptoms and drinking an appropriate amount of water. More specific treatment may be needed if the disorder is accompanied by a high temperature. Your doctor will advise you as to the most effective preventive or curative treatment.

● The Sun climateAny sudden change in climate and environment can often lead to your body manifesting various symptoms as it tries to adjust.

not overexert yourself, ensure that you take plenty of rest and try to get plenty of sleep. It is imperative that you take adequate protection against the sun and avoid overexposure. Ensure that both you and your children wear sunglasses and a hat, and use sun creams or sunblock with a high protection factor throughout

of dehydration, and do not spend too long in the sun if you are taking photosensitive medication. Lastly, it can get surprisingly cold in the evenings and when the air conditioning is on, so make sure you bring appropriate clothing.

● The Ski climateThe climate in the mountains requires you to properly protect yourself and your children from the cold as well as from direct sunlight.Make it a rule to wear three layers:– the inner layer: underclothes, such as a long-sleeved T-shirt and

– the mid layer: a jumper, a fleece or a sweatshirt in order to retain

– the shell layer: a waterproof garment which is comfortable and suitable for outdoor winter sports activities rather than a windcheater which does not allow the body to breathe and rapidly lets in moisture.

To reduce the risk of sunstroke, right from initial exposure and throughout your holiday, you should apply high protection filter sun creams or sun blocks and you should also make sure you get plenty to drink. Avoid excessively long exposure to direct sunlight if you are taking any medication which might make skin sensitive to the sun.

to your journey and these Conventions govern and may limit the liability of air carriers for death or bodily injury, for loss of or damage to baggage, and for delay. This information notice summarises the liability rules applied by Community air carriers as required by Community legislation and the Montreal Convention.

Where the Montreal Convention applies, the limits of liability are as follows:1 There are no financial limits in respect of death or bodily injury. For damages up

for compensation. Above that amount, the air carrier can defend itself against a claim by proving that it was not negligent or otherwise at fault. If a passenger is killed or injured, the air carrier must make an advance payment, to cover immediate economic needs, within 15 days from the identification of the person entitled to compensation. In the event of death, this advance payment shall not

3 In case of baggage delay, the air carrier is liable for damage unless it took all reasonable measures to avoid the damage or it was impossible to take

if not at fault, unless the baggage was defective. In the case of unchecked baggage, the carrier is liable only if at fault.

5 A passenger can benefit from a higher liability limit by making a special declaration at the latest at check-in and by paying a supplementary fee.

Where the Warsaw Convention system applies, the following limits of liability may apply:

Many carriers have voluntarily waived these limits in their entirety, and US regulations require that, for journeys to, from or with an agreed stopping place

3 The carrier may also be liable for damage occasioned by delay.Further information may be obtained from the carrier as to the limits applicable to your journey. If your journey involves carriage by different carriers, you should contact each carrier for information on the applicable limits of liability.Regardless of which Convention applies to your journey, you may benefit from a higher limit of liability for loss of, damage or delay to baggage by making at check-in a special declaration of the value of your baggage and paying any supplementary fee that may apply. Alternatively, if the value of your baggage exceeds the applicable limit of liability, you should fully insure it before you travel.Time limit for action: Any action in court to claim damages must be brought within two years from the date of arrival of the aircraft, or from the date on which the aircraft ought to have arrived. If the baggage is damaged, delayed, lost or destroyed, the passenger must write and complain to the air carrier as soon as possible. In the case of damage to checked baggage, the passenger must write and complain within seven days, and in the case of delay within 21 days, in both cases from the date on which the baggage was placed at the passenger’s disposal.
