Current President Jean’s Report To begin my first report I must congratulate PP John on surviving a challenging year for our Club and thank him for his leadership and support throughout the year. My deepest appreciation to all members for stepping up to the mark as I tapped them on the shoulders to take on roles for 2013/2014. I would also like to thank all those who attended the Changeover Dinner for making it great fellowship night. Congratulations to John Liersch on becoming our latest Paul Harris Fellow. John’s dedication to Rotary has always been strong and this recognition is well deserved I am looking forward to a great year as we look at the programs we know are valued by our members
and the community, and following my challenge to the new Directors to think outside the box, I am sure we are going to be facing wonderful new challenges. Strengthening our Club through new members, and working with our fellow service organisations whilst ensuring a great year of fellowship will be part of those challenges. Our first challenge is trying to get enough members to the Fireside Meetings with a number of Rotarians away (lucky devils). These members should be all refreshed and charged up for some hard work when they get back. Second challenge is being ready for DG Ken’s visit on the 17
th July. With this in mind our first Board Meeting will be
held over until the 24th July.
Past President John’s Report
It is great to see the development in Ryohei over the last 12 months, he has gone from a very shy boy to a confident man while he has been staying with us. It was a big thing for him to come to Warracknabeal for 12 months and to see him blossom is a real highlight of the year for me. I probably thought he could speak English when he left Japan but then him turned up here and heard us. A big thank you to my secretary Wendy and treasurer Julie. An average President is made look good by a fantastic secretary.
I would also like to thank my directors for really make the year what it was. We had several great nights. The Japanese night, the Aussie night at the Martin’s and the Fijian nights all come to mind as does Ray’s fellowship nights. We are lucky to have a chef like Johnny G. He never disappoints us with what he serves up. A great chef cooking in a great venue. The guys behind the bar, they are all volunteers and they do a great job. Last but not least, Nola thank you for the year and helping out with the breakfasts and providing support when things weren’t going to plan. Congratulations Jean and thank you for stepping up when I was panicking about not having an incoming President. I hope you and your directors have a great year.

Rotary International’s new President Ron D. Burton By John Rezek – The Rotarian With his congenial manner and his inclination to keep things simple, Ron Burton has a natural ability to put people at ease. But don’t let the easygoing demeanour of Rotary International’s new President lull you into thinking he doesn’t get serious when it’s time for business. “If you ask my opinion, you’re going to get it,” Burton says, his neighbourly look morphing into a serious gaze. “When I feel strongly about something, I will argue like crazy for my position. I suppose that’s sort of an ego thing, but if I discern that someone has a vested interest or may be looking at a personal economic benefit, I have a simple suggestion: Apply The Four-Way Test.” An uncompromising sense of ethics may be the only personal quality the former President of the University of Oklahoma Foundation Inc. is willing to wear on his sleeve. “Like most people, I don’t like to be told I’m wrong,” he says. “But I can be convinced that there’s another way to look at something, and sometimes I’ll change my mind. If it’s an ethical issue, though, you’re not going to tell me I’m wrong. It’s not going to happen. I’ve dealt with too many people over the years who wanted to misuse funds. I’ve looked them in the eye and said, ‘I’m not going to jail for you or anyone else’.”
