President : Kelvin Pearson 027 499 5991 Secretary: Bev Thomas 07 579 2216 THE BAY OF PLENTY MUSTANG OWNERS CLUB NEWSLETTER Welcome to another two members:- Roger and Denise Van Leven from Rotorua. They have a 1966 Coupe, Red 4700cc Auto. Graeme and Lynette Bendikson from Whakatane. They own a 1968 convertible, Highland Green, 302 (J code) Auto. Graeme and Lynette’s car has been completed for a couple of years now so it’s nice to see them finally join. Well done!! CLUB DRIVE – Eric and Lynnaire’s Katikati Run There is no doubt about it – we always have a great time on these runs – but we don’t seem to be able to get the weather quite right! An early start from Bethlehem at 9am set us off in somewhat gloomy weather but by the time we got to Katikati Museum Café the day had cleared a little. A very nice tea & coffee break for all but one - Kevin Robinson, a non coffee drinker, still found something to drink! Eric & Lynnaire had great plans for the day all set out with map, questionnaire and even a menu for our lunch! First stop was the Waihi Goldmine. A walk up to the pit edge and then a walk around the rim to the Old Pump House and then onto a very interesting Mine Museum Next on the list was a drive up to the Golden Cross mine. Not the best decision of the day as the rain just got heavier the further up the valley we went. Never mind, it looked like it would be a great drive on a sunny day. Back to Lund Rd, Katikati to view Wayne & Carols shed. Wayne has a collection of cars including a 48 Ford Coupe, American Massey Ferguson Tractor, large Ford Convertible, a Gig, old push bikes and service station memorabilia. Of great interest to us was a 65 Notchback Mustang which he reckons will be ready for This is well worth a look. Along the perimeter fence line is lots of interesting facts and figures, plus the museum is very well done.

a celebration in about 3 years. We will keep him up to this with a few beers and wine!!!!

Lunch at the Forta Leza Country Inn, (a converted Dairy Factory on the main highway) was very enjoyable. They also had a display of exquisite dolls to view. Rusty McGowan was the brains of the day, taking out the prize for the questionnaire.

Wendy stepped up to collect the flowers and basket of goodies. Another shed to look at close by saw an amazing array of trucks, tractors, cars and more memorabilia. However, what enthused most was 27ft 5th wheeler they proudly showed us along with a Ford F150 tow vehicle. An invitation was extended to members to return to Eric’s shed to conclude a great day out. Deb Coombes will be taking order shortly. More details in the next newstletter or see Deb on the next run. NAME TAGS With the amount of new members it is hard to remember all names. Club Name tags are available. Just email or ring BEV and she will get one for you. Lifestyle engravers prefers we do these in batches. These are reasonably priced ($10 per badge) and great to wear on club runs .

Joke # 1 A cowboy appeared before St. Peter at the Pearly Gates. 'Have you ever done anything of particular merit?' St. Peter asked. 'Well, I can think of one thing,' the cowboy offered. 'Once, on a trip to the Black Hills out in South Dakota, I came upon a gang of bikers, who were threatening a young woman. I directed them to leave her alone, but they wouldn't listen. So, I approached the largest and most heavily tattooed biker and smacked him in his face, kicked his bike over, ripped out his nose ring, and threw it on the ground. I yelled, 'Now, back off!! Or I'll kick the #$%$)@ out of all of you!' St. Peter was impressed, 'When did this happen?' 'Just a couple minutes ago...'
