CLUSTER FOR HEALTH TOURISM of VOJVODINA

AP VOJVODINA – BASIC DATA :

Vojvodina is the northernmost part of Serbia, that is the south part of the Pannonian Plain through which the Danube, the Tisa and the Sava rivers flow. It takes up 21 506 km2

(24% of Serbia). Its capital Town is Novi Sad.

More than 2,1mil people live in Vojvodina in 45 Municipality (467 city), more than half of which are Serbs, and the rest of the population consists of over 32 national communities. Official languages beside Serbian

are : Hungarian, Croatian, Slovakian, Romanian and Rusyn.

Vojvodina is the most developed economic area in Serbia. Arable land in Vojvodina amounts up to 1,78 million ha of high quality soil. Significant further development potential is the cana

network of the Dunav-Tisa-Dunav hydro system which is 930 km long. 591 km of this waterway is surrounded with fantastic natural resources suitable for the development of different types of tourism.

Vojvodina has a long cultural tradition, and the natural and the spiritual wealth represent a good foundation for touristic offers. The biggest attractions of Vojvodina tourism – natural and cultural values, monuments, 89 hunting grounds (VAT 31.1%), 1700 km-riverside suitable for water-based tourism, lakes

and thermal springs, 112 landscape-protection areas, 130.000 ha national parks, plains, forests, marshlands, well-developed infrastructure and catering network – await the visitors from all over Europe.

THE FOUNDING CONGRESS OF THE HEALTH TOURISM CLUSTER OF VOJVODINA was in KANJIŽA 23 August 2007

With the support of municipalities: Kanjiža,Senta, Ada,Subotica, Bačka Topola, Mali Iđoš, Bečej, today more :Zrenjanin, Novi Sad,Vrsac, Irig, Kovacica, Ruma, Indija,

Odzaci, Sombor, Apatin, Sremski Karlovci.

Capacity :3619 employees working in the sphere of health tourism, that is 28,2% of

the 12870 people being employed in the 4329 tourism establishments in Vojvodina Autonomous Territory, 1,06% of the (339.080) employees working in the area of Cluster For Health Tourism of Vojvodina, that is

to say 0,06% of the 533.343 employed persons in Vojvodina Autonomous Territory.



Founders of the Cluster : (71) according to the field of expertise, of 18 Municipalities in 214 settlements : Tourism 38 members, Education 6, NGO 3, Enterpreneurship 7, Public

health 8, Enviromentalism, Sport and recreation 9.

The most popular tourist destinations: Novi Sad – Petrovaradin – Sremski Karlovci, Subotica – Palic, Apatin, Senta, Zrenjanin, Vrsac, Topola.

Spas: Kanjiza, Apatin, Melenci, Vrdnik, Bezdan, Stari Slankamen, Stari Becej, Ada.

Sights: Fruska Gora and the Hills of Vrsac with their monasteries, lakes of Palic and Ludas as well as the Carska Bara and the Salt Lake, Deliblato Sand, the valley of Danube, Tisa

and Sava, Obedska Bara, Zasavica and Selevenjske Pustare nature conservation areas.

Unique natural feature: swarming of mayflies along river Tisa.

Basic goals of the international Agreement of cooperation:- international cooperation in the areas of marketing,education,

innovations and information exchange in the field of tourism;

- creation of standards and joint marketing activities;

- establishment of an information database and a joint EU portal;

- formation of an experimental region for European tourist education in health and rural tourism;

- revival of tourism of the middle and eastern Europe through regional-cross-border cooperation with the settlements of the Carpathien Region

Goals of the Cluster :

• Improvement of cooperation between local self-governments and the interested members of the cluster 0in the field of health tourism development; joint appearance and promotion of cluster members on state and international levels;

• Cooperation in the creation of mutual, regional plans for the development of health tourism in the region, concerning of the tourist destinations resources in the region

• Education and training of expert staff for health tourism;• Creation of a competitive advantage and attracting foreign tourists;• Integration with other forms of associations on domestic and foreign levels in the

interest of partnership concerning EU projects;• Provision of support for economic growth and improvement of the economic

structure by stimulating the development of the entire region;• Cooperation concerning the use of tourist destinations resources in the region;• Involvement of the civil organisations and target groups for the enhancement of the

tourist offer in the euroregion



BASIC INFORMATION ABOUT THE CLUSTER :

Cluster territory covers 45% of Vojvodina, that is 962.000 ha, on the territoryof 18 neighbouring municipalities in 214 settlemens, with 1.123.174 people

A network of schools exists on the cluster territory. The education is conducted in Serbian, and the members of the national communities undergo education in their own languages in 262 elementary schools, 70 secondary schools, 11 colleges and 26 universities on the Cluster territory.

Printed and electronic media are found in several languages on the Cluster territory, while many theatre and music performances are held in galleries, art salons, theatres and museums. 1997 civil organisations, amateur culture societies maintain the folklore and music of all nations, national communities and ethnic groups in AGV.



Clusters basic information :

Traditional hospitality and hotelier-restaurateur serviceson the Cluster territory are provided by: 39 hotels, 21 motels, 810 restaurants, 56 swimming pools, 77 tourist agencies, 402 transport companies, 15798 enterpreneurs, 6545 firms, 84 public firms with about 339.080 employees.

Accommodation: 13020 beds, 5458 rooms.

Number of tourists: 2006-267.198 – 723.370 nights (domestic-557.843; foreign-165.527); 2007-314.222 – 834.487 nights; 2008-330.566

The Cluster region tourist offer is enriched with activities, manifestations organised by 1997 NGO-s : 1128 sport associations, 151 hunting organisations and 106 fishing societies, as well as sights found in 292 churches, monasteries, religious objects, castles, etc.

Membership in Cluster is of open and voluntary type for everyone interested in the development of health tourism.

The data indicate that the EU integration process started in this region.
