CMS ROARS INTO LEARNING!

Welcome toLinear Algebra

My name is Beatrice Williams and I have been teaching for 10 years. I went to Michigan Technological University and have a degree in Secondary Education with a Secondary Math Endorsement. I am a highly qualified teacher in the state of Arizona. I taught at a high school in Flint, MI for 8 years. This is my second year at Centennial. I have four children, ages 17, 14, 12 AND 8 years old. I look forward to a very exciting year.

ABOUT ME

COURSE OBJECTIVESKyrene Course Name: Linear Algebra

In Linear Algebra, instructional time focuses on three critical areas:

(1) developing understanding of operations with rational numbers, formulating and reasoning about expressions and equations, including modeling an association in bivariate data with a linear equation, and solving linear equations and systems of linear equations

(2) (2) grasping the concept of a function and using functions to describe quantitative relationships

(3) (3) analyzing two- and three-dimensional space and figures using distance, angle, similarity, and congruence, and understanding and applying the Pythagorean theorem.

Please note: this is a Kyrene course that does not earn high school credit.

COURSE OBJECTIVESKyrene Course Name: Linear Algebra

Focus #1: Introducing Transformations

This unit provides an introduction to transformations as students explore the three congruence transformations: rotations, reflections, and translations.

Materials: Connected Math 3 – Butterflies, Pinwheels, and Wallpaper Van de Walle - Teaching Student Centered Mathematics,

Holt: Pre-Algebra

EXPECTATIONS•Linear Algebra students must maintain at least a C average throughout the Linear Algebra course to be enrolled in Algebra 1-2 in the Tempe Union High School District.

•If grade average is below C at time of registration, student will be registered for Algebra and Algebra Lab.

TO MAINTAIN A “C” AVERAGE, STUDENTS SHOULD:

•C o m p l e t e d a i l y p r a c t i c e a s s i g n m e n t s o n t i m e . •Assessments 90% of grade Formative and Summative Assessments may include:

TestsQuizzesWriting assignments/ProjectsWarm-UpsExit Tickets

•Practice 10% of grade •Practice is checked and graded by the student and randomly checked by the teacher to ensure accuracy.

HELP IS AVAILABLE . . .

•I help students before school Mon-Fri 8:00-8:30 a.m. (This may change due to supervision schedule). Special arrangements can be made for a student that needs daily help.•The District Office has a list of Kyrene Teachers who do private tutoring.

COMMUNICATION IS THE KEY TO OUR SUCCESS. WE CAN COMMUNICATE IN SEVERAL WAYS.

•E-mail: [email protected]•Phone message: 480-541-6542 (This will always be voicemail. If you need to speak to me call the school before school or at the end of the day and ask for me.)•Website: Follow the path to the 8M website•Daily Agenda•ParentVue/StudentVue – It is essential that both student and parents check the student/parent portals

BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS

It is expected that students will conduct themselves in a manner consistent with the CMS Sabercat Way of Prepared/Polite/Performing showing. . .•Respect•Organization•Achievement•Responsibility•Safety

IF A STUDENTS IS NOT BEHAVING ACCORDING TO THE SABERCAT WAY MY RESPONSE WILL BE TO . . .

•Talk with student(s)•Email/call home•Team/or Parent Conference

Possible consequences could include:
