RCom and Ericsson sign $1 billionnetwork management pact

CommunicationsBSE -0.33 % today said it hasoutsourced operationsand management of itsnetwork in northern andwestern India to Ericssonin an $ 1 billion agree-ment spread over eightyears.
The contract wouldcover one lakh kilometresof fiber and mobile infra-structure in 11 telecomcircles of RCom, acrossNorth and West of Indiaincluding Delhi andMumbai, a joint state-ment by the two compa-nies.
The eight-year agree-ment is valued at $ 1 bil-lion, it said adding 5,000employees of RCom willjoin Ericsson in this regard."Given the complexity ofnetwork increasing withplatforms, technologiesand application offerings,we are banking on the ex-perience, innovation andtechnical expertise ofEricsson to improve the
productivity of our net-work," RCom's Chief Ex-ecutive Officer for WirelessBusiness, Gurdeep Singhsaid.
As per the contract,Ericsson will manage theday to day operationsacross wireline and wire-less networks and will takeover responsibility for fieldmaintenance, network op-erations and operationalplanning of RCom 2G,CDMA and 3G mobile net-works, it added.
The partnership will al-low RCom to free up re-sources to focus on userexperience, as well as im-proving innovation powerand speed across thespecified geographies, thestatement said.
"With this partnership,Reliance will increase fo-cus on their core businessand innovation. We arepleased to welcome morethan 5,000 employeeswho will join us from Reli-ance Communications,"Ericsson's Executive VicePresident and Head of
Business Unit Global Ser-vices MagnusMandersson said.
Ericsson will be re-sponsible for improvingnetwork performance andultimately service quality,with the goal of increasingcustomer satisfaction andretention, the statementsaid.
"This is one of the firsttimes that wireless and
wireline enterprise net-work is being outsourcedto deliver world-class ser-vice and performance as-surance," RCom's CEOfor Global and EnterpriseBusiness Punit Gargsaid. RCom infrastructurecovers 24,000 towns and6 lakh villages in India towhich it offers convergedservices including voice,data and video, it said.
Under the agreement,Ericsson will also workclosely with RCom to iden-tify opportunities to intro-duce new services andexpand its existing busi-nesses to help realise fullpotential of its network.

Renault to recall over60,000 cars in China

Renault has started to re-call more than 60,000 carsexported to China overproblems with their fuellevel sensors, China's con-sumer quality watchdogsaid.
Renault's Chinesesubsidiary began recalling61,508 Koleos sport utilityvehicles produced be-tween December 2008and July 2012, Xinhua re-ported. The General Ad-ministration of Quality Su-pervision, Inspection andQuarantine said fuel levelsensors in the cars cannotdeliver correct readingsafter long periods of useand are unsafe to use.
