Follow up COP 9/2009 decisions on national reporting process

ReminderDuring COP9 in Buenos Aires

many decisions taken in order to improve the review of the implementation of the Convention and the national reports to be provided by each Parties for next CRIC9 in February 2011.

National reports have to be submit in a new format to the UNCCD secretariat in order to be examined at CRIC 9

Action taken and process

March, 16th • message to ST and SSC about the decisions taken about the new reporting process and the opportunity for DESIRE • invite the SSC to participate to the UNCCD national reporting process in sharing their information with the national Focal Point of their country. July, 14th• 2 nd message on what DESIRE SSC can contribute to the national report• circulating draft of a message for the national Focal Point August, 31st A personal message is sent to all the national FP of the SS countries with references to DESIRE and the SSC in the country

Trends Comments

• The new webbased procedure for reporting seems to be difficult to adopt for the NFP

• The link with scientists is appreciated and the feedback is good

• Nevertheless it is difficult to value according to the new and not yet well mastered system

•Collaboration existing and improved between SST and NFP in Botswana, Portugal, Cape Verde, Greece …• Good feedback of the Focal Point about the proposition of participation of DESIRE SST to the reporting process in Mexico, Italy, Chile, …• No feedback from SST or NFP of Spain, Morocco, Tunisia, China, and Turkey.
