MOVIE: THE MAN IN THE IRON MASK

Summary

Paris riotKing Loius wanted to kill

the leader of Jesuits - Aramis

Loius fell in love with Christine

Death of Raoul (Christine’s fiance and

Athos’ son)

Athos broke into the palace and wanted to kill

the King

The three musketeers meet – Aramis had a plan

to replace the King

But D’Artangnan refused the plan to betray his

loyalty

Aramis & other 2 musketeer went to the

prison released the identital twin brother of

the King – Philippe

Philippe accept the task by replacing the king

during the Masquerade Ball

They failed to replace the king during the

Masquerade Ball

King Louis put the iron mask back to Philippe

King Louis prepare a few musketeers to hunt Athos, Aramis and

Phortos down

King Louis tried to kill Philippe but was

protected by D’Artagnan D’Artangnan died

King Louis got iron masked and locked in

prison

Philippe became a great king

N: Some of this is legend, but at least this much is fact -

When rioting citizen of France destroyed the Bastille.

They discovered in its records this mysterious entry.

Prisoner number 64389000 (SIX.FOUR.THREE.EIGHT.NINE THOUSAND) -The Man In The Iron Mask.

Scene 1

(Lights On)

King Louis : I am a young king... but I am King. 

D’Artagnan : Then be a good king, Your Majesty.

(Lights off - King Louis left )

Scene 2  

(Lights On)

(Table is prepared and chair - D'Artagnan sitting - a solider approached with a letter)

N: 'His Majesty regrets to inform you

'that Raoul, son of Athos,  

'has been killed in action.'  

D’Artagnan : Does Athos know of this?

(Athos rushed in)

Athos: YOU TRAITOR!

D'Artagnan: Athos, my friend...

Athos, listen to me!

The cannons killed Raoul!

Do not add your own death to this tragedy. I beg you!

Get back! Get back! 

Athos : You're the traitor.   

(Lights off)

(A table and 3 chairs are prepared)

Scene 3  

(Lights On)

Aramis : The secrecy is regrettable, but necessary. Please, sit.  When we were young and

saw injustice, we fought it.

Some problems cannot be solved with a sword.

Athos :Some can't be settled without one! 

Aramis :Here is the problem at hand. The Jesuits oppose Louis' wars and the starvation that results.  

So, Louis has ordered me to discover the identity of the Jesuits' general. And to

kill him. The problem is.....that I am he. I am the General of the of the Order of

Jesuits.

 Athos : What do you propose to do? 

Aramis : Replace the King. 

D’Artagnan : I cannot listen to this.

Aramis : It can be done and I know the way !

Athos : I am with you. 

D’Artagnan : No! 

Aramis : I need you. All for one and one for all. 

D’Artagnan : I cannot betray my king! I swore an oath!

Athos : Whatever the plan,I am with you. The next time we meet, one of us will die. 

(Athos left scene)

Aramis : Wait! Even were I not a priest, I could see that your heart carries a secret weight

and that it is hurting you to bear it alone.  

D’Artagnan : I cannot betray my king.

(D'Artagnan left scene)

(Lights off)

 Scene 4

(x1 table and x2 chairs are prepared)

N : After the meeting, Athos and Aramis saves Philippe - the man in the iron mask from the

jail and the story continues...... 

(Lights On) (Philippe sits on the chair - Athos and Aramis helps to remove the mask)

*clings**clings* (metal sounds - mask removal)

Philippe : ARRGGHHHH *pain*

(Lights Off)

Scene 5

(A table and two chairs are prepared) (Conversation between Aramis and Philippe)

Aramis : I am here to help you It is your escape to freedom.  

Aramis : I will tell you the secret that was kept from you. It began the night King Louis

was born. I was on duty. I was summoned to the rear door of the palace. The Queen's

priest handed me a baby. The King realised he had two heirs. that he decided to

make one disappear. You, Phillippe! He ordered your identity kept from you. So he

devised a way to keep you forever hidden.

One day... I will ask your forgiveness. But not until I have restored you to what is

yours. We will replace Louis with Phillippe. 

Scene 6

(Multimedia of training progress played)

N : So Athos and Aramis train Philippe to become a loyal king to attend the

Masquerade ball to replace the King.

Scene 7

(During the masquerade ball)

(Background music plays - multimedia of masquerade ball played)

(King Louis and a girl are going to dance , suddenly he saw some people wearing iron mask and shocked

and tired - went back to his room)

(In his room) (Aramis barged into the room , Athos bringing Philippe along)

Aramis : Hi, today is your judgement day! *hits Louis*

Louis : *faints*

(Lights Off)

Scene 8

(Lights On)

(On stage - Philippe (as Louis) sat on the chair and D'Artagnan stood beside him- Philippe feels uncomfortable)

N : Then, the king has been changed to Philippe in the Masquerade Ball. But,

D'Artagnan feels curious of the unusual behaviour of the King.

(Lights Off)

Scene 9

(Still Lights Off)

N : Later on, D'Artagnan and Philippe left the masquerade ball when Athos and Aramis kidnap

King Louis escape from the castle. But D'Artagnan stopped them by capturing the fake King

- Philippe. Then, King Louis was rescued but Philippe was still stuck inside the castle.

Scene 10

(Lights On)

(In King Louis' room)

King Louis : I was told this imposter was dead. 

D’Artagnan : You knew? You knew there was a man of such resemblance? 

King Louis : He is my brother. 

D’Artagnan : Brother? 

King Louis : My twin. My blood. A fact which has kept him alive, until now. 

D’Artagnan : Your Majesty, listen to me. Never once have I asked anything for myself. I ask

you now spare the life of this man, your brother. 

King Louis : You have no right to ask this! 

D’Artagnan : Your Majesty... every day of your life, I have watched over you. I have bled for

you. I have prayed every day to see you become greater than your office. Show me

what my faith and blood have purchased. Show mercy. 

King Louis : You take the side of traitors? This one, worst of all — my own brother! 

D’Artagnan : And what have you done to him? For one moment... I thought you had

become the king I'd hoped you would be.

 Philippe : Please... My Lord, may I speak? I beg that you kill me. I release you from any sin

in taking my life. In fact, I pray God rewards you for your mercy.

But, please... do not...I beg you... return me to the prison where I have lived for so long. 

King Louis : You will hunt down Porthos, Athos and Aramis and bring me their heads. Or

will have yours. As for you, my brother, back to the prison you shall go, and into the

mask you hate. Wear it until you love it. And die in it!

(D'Artagnan lock Philippe into Iron mask and bring him away)

(Lights Off)

 Scene 11

Aramis : Our old uniforms, we could wear them in death. And so we shall! 

N : Then, Athos and Aramis went to Bastille and approached to D'Artagnan.

Athos : Why are you here?

D'Artagnan: I feel upset to this King. He will never become the king I wanted.

Aramis : One for all, All for One.

(King Louis and a solider appears with a gun)

King Louis : D’Artagnan I am not angry with you. I knew you'd lead me to them. Lay down

your sword and I will not punish you. You can retire in peace. I'll give your friends a

swift execution if you surrender now.  

Aramis : You should take his offer. We're dead anyway.  

Philippe : Wait! Bargain me to Louis for your lives. You've done your best. Please, let me

go. 

D’Artagnan : No. I cannot do it. Even if I could give up my king, I could not give up...my son.

 Philippe : Your son? 

D’Artagnan : You are my son. And I never felt pride as a father. until this moment.

Aramis : They're young Musketeers. They've been weaned on our legends. They revere

us! It is an advantage. 

D’Artagnan : I trained these men. They will fight to the death. But if we must die...if we must die, let it be like this. 

Athos : One for all... All for one. 

(D'Artagnan , Aramis, Athos, and Philippe runs towards the solider )

King Louis : Shoot them!

(Soldier not dare to shoot)(Suddenly Philippe runs toward the front line)

King Louis : I SAID SHOOT THEM! *snatched the soldier's gun and aim towards Philippe*

(D'Artagnan saw King Louis' movement and run towards Philippe to block the gun shot)

(The bullet shot on D'Artagnan instead of Philippe)

(D'Artagnan collapse)

(Philippe runs toward D'Artagnan)

D’Artagnan : He is... your brother. *look at King Louis and Philippe*

Philippe : Get this off me! *hitting on his head*

(Athos snatched the key from King Louis and opens Philippe's Iron Mask)

D’Artagnan : Forgive me. All my life... this... this is the death I have always wanted. All for

one... And one fo... *dies*  

Philippe : NOOOOO!!!!!!!!

(Dramatic music plays)

(Philippe stood up angrily- walks toward King Louis and get his crown and put onto his head)

Philippe : *Pointing on King Louis* Put this madman where no one can hear his insanity. Let him be fed by a deaf

mute, but feed him well. Let him find redemption wearing the pains he caused

others. Take him!  

(The soldier , Aramis and Athos grab King Louis and put him into iron mask and drag him away)

(Lights Off)

N : After this, France was reformed under Philippe who gave his people food, prosperity and peace.

He is known as the greatest ruler in the history France.

Bending silver wire for the fence‘s decoration.

Cover the balloon with newspapers with liquid glue. Spray the metal spray on it when it was dry.

Musketeers’ Costume

Sewing the musketeers’ clothings

Cut the gold papers into logo for the musketeers’ costume.

Preparing extra actor’s musketeer costume by using rubbish bag with simple decorations.
