This Week
It’s been a great week this week at NHPS, music lessons began, our Morning Wellbeing Program has been lots of fun and we are now only one week away from our
first reading medals!
I just want to say a quick thank you to all of our parent volunteers in our school, there are a small number of very generous people who give up their time on a
regular basis – you are making a difference.
Music Lessons
Just letting parents know who missed out on music lessons that we are looking at extending the program over two days and are most certainly keeping your children at
the top of the list for this when it happens.
It has been a bit of a whirlwind beginning and I apologise for the hiccups we have had along the way. Luke Melton is our music teacher and I have been pleased with the positive and supportive nature of his
interactions with our students.
Attendance and Absences
Parents must ensure their children attend school every day. On occasion, your child may need to be absent from school. Justified reasons for student absences may
include:
being sick or having an infectious disease
having an unavoidable medical appointment
being required to attend a recognised religious holiday
exceptional or urgent family circumstances e.g.
attending a funeral Parents must provide an explanation for absences to the school when their child is absent or late. Front office staff are required to make contact with parents
for unexplained absences.
There will be an increase in communication with parents when their child is away and the school is not notified, please do not take this personally – it will be
happening for all absences.
Please understand that a message from a brother or sister is not sufficient. Parents are expected to make
contact with the office.
Road Safety
Over the past couple of terms I have included several
messages about road safety in my newsletter.
Last week we had a “near miss” and are very fortunate that one of our students is going to recover
from a serious road safety incident.
I spoke to our children on Friday morning about the seriousness of this issue and the importance of crossing

the road in a safe location in a safe manner. Please view the information below
and discuss this with your child ASAP:
Before you cross the road:
Look before you cross. Just because someone else decides to cross, doesn’t mean it’s safe for you
Never assume that an approaching vehicle can see you, or will stop for you – wait until all vehicles have stopped before you step off the kerb
When crossings are not available - avoid crossing between parked cars or at the front or back of buses and large vehicles
At intersections, check for turning vehicles before you leave the kerb, and while you are crossing the road
When crossing the road:
Always use pedestrian crossings
At traffic lights, don’t enter the road if vehicles are moving through the crossing or if the red don’t walk signal shows.
Leisure Sports
We started our leisure sports last week Felix had the catch of the day, well
done Felix!
Have an excellent week!
