Animation Club For: Years 7-9

When: Mondays 4.00-5.15pm

Where: Art Room 1

Staff: Miss Brooks—Art Technician

Discover what it takes to bring a character to life

on the big screen! Learn about different animation

techniques and principles such as how to morph

objects into other objects using traditional hand-

drawn animation or how to make a character

move in 3D stop-motion.

For new members - please see Miss Brooks for an

entry form as spaces are limited.

Art Club

For: Years 7—9

Astronomy Club

For: Years 10-13

When: Fridays 12:30 - 1:00pm

Are you interested in science and space? Astronomy

Club will allow you to explore this topic in more

depth than GCSE, looking at four key topics of Earth,

Moon and Sun; Planetary Systems; Stars; and

Galaxies and Cosmology. The option to take an extra

GCSE in the subject may be available for those

willing to do some independent study alongside the

sessions. Please speak to Miss Barbour in Physics for

more information.

Bridge Club

For: All players, new and experienced

When: Mondays 12:00-1:00pm

Where: S13

Staff: Mr Gallacher

This is a club for anyone throughout the

school who knows how to play bridge, or who

would like to learn. Year 7 are particularly welcome

as is everyone throughout the school. It is open to

experienced bridge players and to girls who have

never played this fascinating card game before.

Classical Book Club

For: Years 10-13

When: First Friday of the month, 4.00-5.00pm

Where: S 13

Staff: Mr Lonsdale and Sixth Formers

We will read a classical play or historical novel in

the intervening month and then meet up to

discuss it with tea and biscuits.

Classics Club (Junior)

For: Year 7 and 8

When: Check Daily Digest for day and time

Where: Room 21

Staff: Mr Lonsdale and 6th Formers

Run by Year 12 Latin and Greek students, this

club offers fun and exciting activities based on the

Classical world. Upcoming projects include

making myth comic strips, designing Greek pots

and Classically-inspired games and drama.

Classics—Senior

For: All Years, in particular Years 10 – 13

When: Throughout the year (as advertised in

Discussions with pictures from visiting speakers

on all aspects of the Classical World.

This term we will be thinking about what Jesus

would say to various people: Donald Trump, Kim

Kardashian, an ISIS fighter, Elon Musk to name but

a few! Everyone is welcome at the meetings – the

more diverse the views the better! Come along to

ask or to discuss or to listen. Everyone is welcome.

Most weeks there is food!

DT Club

For: Year 11

When: Monday and Friday mornings from

7.45am; Mondays and Fridays from

11.50am; and Mondays and Fridays

3:50–5.00pm. Students will be able

to use the DT rooms at other times by

prior arrangement with Mr Berrett.

ENGLISH CLUBS

Debating Society

(Junior)

For: Years 7 to 10

Sixth formers

Should Britain open its doors to refugees? Are

grammar schools a good idea? Should the BBC

have fought harder to keep ‘Bake-Off’?

Junior Debating Society gives you a chance to

discuss the issues that matter to you. Each

week’s motion is chosen by students, and

everyone is welcome, whether they want to

make a speech, ask questions or just listen to

the arguments and cast a vote. You don’t need to

be an experienced debater to join in. Just come

along and have your say!

MUSIC CLUBS

A Cappella Choir

For: Years 10-13

When: Mondays from 4:00-5:00 in the

Autumn, Spring and start of the

Summer term

Where: Music School Hall

This is an auditioned choir specialising in sacred

music. This year we will be performing in the Town

Hall and Sheldonian concerts, and in a prestigious

concert of our own in the Merton College Chapel.

Chamber Choir

For: Years 7-9

When: Tuesdays and Thursdays 8.30-9.00am

Where: Music School Hall or M2

Staff: Mr Jarvis

An auditioned choir for strong singers with a wide

repertoire. We will perform in three Lower School

Concerts.

Chamber Groups

For: Grade 6 upwards

When: Tuesdays 4.00-5.00pm

Where: Music School Hall or M2

Do you want to form a string quartet? A clarinet

group? A reed ensemble? A saxophone choir?

A Renaissance Recorder consort? The Music

Department will help match you up with other

suitable players, help you find things to play, and

give you a space to rehearse. Then it’s up to you

to get practising. (We’ll give you some help if you

need it). This is particularly suitable for more

advanced instrumentalists, from about Grade 6

upwards. (Other times are also possible).

Concert Band

For: All woodwind and brass players

Grade 5 standard and above

When: Tuesdays 11.50am-12.25pm

A large band of wind and brass players with a

varied repertoire.

Lower School Choir

For: Years 7 and 8

An unauditioned group for everyone who enjoys

singing. We will perform

in three Lower School

Lower School

Orchestra

For: Years 7 - 9

This group gives early orchestral experience to as

many pupils as possible. The minimum standard is

about Grade 4. Ask Dr Foster if you are not sure.

The Musettes is a small, auditioned group singing

close harmony.

Percussion Ensemble For: Years 7-13

When: Fridays at 12.25pm-1pm

This group provides important performing

experience on tuned and un-tuned percussion.

Senior Choir

For: Years 9 - 13

When: Thursdays 11.50am-12.25pm

An unauditioned choir for all comers. In the

Autumn term we will be performing in the Oxford

Town Hall.

Senior Orchestra

For: Years 7 -13

When: Thursdays from 4.00-5.00

Where: Music School Hall

This is a full symphony orchestra capable of playing

works from the mainstream classical repertoire.

Minimum standard Grade 5 for string players and

Grade 7 – 8 for wind players who will be auditioned.

We will perform n the Town Hall Concert.

String Orchestra

For: Years 8 - 13

This is a group for the more advanced

string players with a minimum Grade 6 standard.

Sometimes wind players are added to form a

Origami Club

For: All welcome!

When: Fridays 12.15pm

Where: S14

Staff: Mrs D’Souza-Eva and Dr Stacey

Learn how to create interesting models using

the ancient Japanese art of paper folding. There

will be a variety of projects to work on with

varying levels of difficulty. This year we are also

hoping to create some fun origami stop motion

animations. No previous experience is needed

as you will find that with practice you will

improve rapidly.

Robotics Club Who: Years 7-10

When: Starting after half term on Tuesdays

12:30-1:00pm

Where: IT1

Staff: Anoushka Patel (Y12) and Mr Watts

An opportunity to become involved in the exciting

world of robotics! Robotics Club will be a fun,

hands-on experience where you will learn how to

build and program a Robotic Vehicle. We will use

the Arduino platform to build the robots and use

various different sensors and input devices. All

levels of experience welcome!

SCIENCE CLUBS

Ecology Club

For: Years 7, 8 and 9

When: On an occasional basis—some

Mondays at 12.20pm. Look out for

posters/notices in Daily Digest.

Where: Outside by pond and greenhouse.

Staff: Mrs Stone and Miss Bell

For those with an interest in wildlife and

conservation. There will be opportunities for pond

dipping, and growing vegetables in the raised beds

and greenhouse, as well as the ever popular

annual OxClean litterpick.

Junior Science Club

For: Years 7 and 8

When: Monday 2nd lunch

Where: Chemistry 2

Staff: Gabriella White (Y13), Dr Regardsoe

and Mrs Rhodes

Do you love experimenting? Fancy designing,

making and firing solid fuel rockets? Wondering

how to turn copper into silver then into gold? Wish

to see the science behind cooking? Would love to

explore the practical side of science? Interested in

Biology, Chemistry and/or Physics? Bring along your

enthusiasm and come and have fun!

Physics Drop-in Sessions For: GCSE and 6th Form physics students

When: Mondays and Thursdays

12.30-1.00pm

Physics support drop-in. If you feel you

need to consolidate or revise any aspect of the

Silver Crest Award For: Year 10

When: Tuesdays second lunch; starting after

October half term

Where: Chemistry 1

Staff: Dr Regardsoe and Mr Sobey with

other science teachers on hand to

offer advice.

The silver CREST award allows you to develop

your own project idea, test this idea through

experimentation, and record your findings.

Experience first-hand what ‘being a scientist’

is like by working on a project of your own

choice or proposed plan. Enhance your creativity,

teamwork and time-management, but above all

have fun.

STEM Society

For: Open to all

Where: LT or Ph1

When: 4.00-5.00pm, see Daily Digest for

STEM Society organises for speakers to come to

the school to talk about their field of expertise or

research in all areas of Science and/or Engineering.

Come along to hear about cutting-edge research,

and learn more about physics and maths!

Technical Theatre Crew Club

For: Year 8 upwards, numbers limited,

so full commitment required.

When: Mondays at 12.10-1.00pm

Staff: Mr Hay

The opportunity to learn how the sound and

lighting systems work in the main hall and drama

studio, to build the sets for school productions and

to be part of the technical/stage management crew

for shows, plays and events during the year.

Textile Studio

For: ONLY for students currently taking

circus textiles, GCSE and A Level

When: Lunchtimes each day and Monday

to Thursday 4.00 – 5.15pm

The textile studio will be open only for students to

work on existing projects and on GCSE and

A level projects.

Touch-typing

For: All years

When: Wednesdays from 11.55am- 12.25pm,

starting 19th September

Staff: Ms Hughes

Train yourself to type using all 10 fingers!

Learn how to type without looking at the

keyboard! This is a club for anyone throughout

the school who would like to increase their typing

speed and accuracy. Year 7 are particularly

welcome although the club is open to all - from

those who 'hunt and peck' slowly, through to those

already fast typists who are looking to improve

their speed and accuracy.

TMP Med Doc

For: Years 11-13

When: Tuesdays 12.00-1.00pm

Where: Careers Centre

Staff: Dr Strobel

Designed by doctors for the Medical Portal, this is

an interactive medical society which consists of

online videos and group activities. Learn more

about Medical Ethics, PBL, prepare for UKCat,

MMI and discuss patient journeys. There will be a

programme on the careers display board and

emailed to all Y11-13s.

Wellbeing Club

For: Years 9-13

When: Fridays 12.20-1.00pm

Where: Drama Studio

Come and learn and share positivity, read articles

and share ideas on living to optimum wellbeing.

Young Enterprise

For: Year 12

Tennis Coaching

Coaching as an individual or in a pair or trio. Takes

place in private study periods before school,

lunchtimes or sports lessons. Fee payable. Forms

are available from the Sports Dept.

Trampolining

For: Y8s up: before half term invites only;

after half term open to all but sign up

as places are very limited.
