1. PlayerDevelopmentAtGretnaSoccerClub (GSC),PlayerDevelopment is thenumberonepriorityof theclub.Theguidingprinciplesofdoingitthe‘GSCWay’include
- Developingtheperson,andthenmaketheplayer- Player-centereddecisionmakingprocess- Individualdevelopmentbeforeteamdevelopment- Focus on long term development – the journey requires patience, detailed
understanding,andasophisticatedplan“It’saboutmorethanjustsoccer….Wemusteducateallyoungpeopleholistically,notsimplytofocusonsoccerl”GuillermoAmor,FCBarcelona.PlayerdevelopmentisthenumberoneconcernattheGSC.TheultimategoaloftheGSCistodevelopplayerstobeabletogoontothenextlevel,whetheritismovingfromteamtoteam,playinginHighSchool,playingincollege,inaprofessionalsettingorplayingfortheUSNationalTeam.Wehavecommitmenttoourplayerstoputtheminanenvironmentthatischallengingandwill constantly test them.Asplayersmature it is important tomoveplayerseitherupordown to ensure that they are constantly tested at their own individual level. All of thesechallengesmustbewithinafun,yetdemandingenvironment.Technical,tactical,psychologicalandphysicalaspectsofthegamewillallbetaughtwithinstructureofthecurriculum.
2. StyleofPlayTheGSCStyleofPlayarticulateshowthegameshouldbeplayed:
- Possessionorientated- Technical- Playerscomfortablewithbothfeet
WewantourplayerstoTrainthewaywewantthemtoPlay.Theyneedtohaveaconviction–braveandflexible.Guideplayersintodecisionmakinganddon’tjustrelyonathleticism.Acceptshort-termlossforlong-termdevelopment(i.e.playingoutoftheback).“Understandingrelationshipbetweenstyleofplay, trainingpriorities,curriculumdevelopmentandplayerdevelopmentiscriticaltothesuccessofdoingittheGretnaSoccerClubWay”
3. CommitmentandAttendanceGretna Select is demanding of the player and their families. Players are expected to attendevery practice, every game, and every tournament. Practices are required and not to beregardedasvoluntaryoroptional.AbsencesfrompracticesandgamesaredetrimentaltotheTeamalthoughexcusedabsencescanbeaddressedwiththecoach.

TheonlyexcusedabsencesincludeSchoolandReligiousActivities,IllnessandInjuries.Ifplayersmissforanyreasonoutsideofthisthenascoachesyouhavetherighttoreduceamountplayingtime.As coaches it is your responsibility to keep an Attendance Record of player’s attendance atgamesandtrainingsessions.Thiswillbeusedtoprovideharddataforreducingplayingtimeorpotential cutting or moving down a player from your team the next cycle of tryouts ordevelopmentalclinics.
4. CommunicationCommunicationisparamounttobeingasuccessfulcoach.Parentswantmorecommunicationas oppose to no communication, they want to be informed. With the aid of your TeamManager/skeepyourplayersandparentsinformedthroughemail,websiteupdates,facebooketc.Asacoach,haveanopendoorpolicywhereplayersandparentsfeelliketheycancometoyouifthereisaproblem.
5. TeamMeetingsItishighlyrecommendedthatyouhaveTeamMeetingsatthefollowing:

Registrationw/NL&MRLU11-U18teamswillplaythroughtheNebraskaLeagueorNL.U8-U10teamswillplaythroughtheEasternNebraskaSoccerAssociationorENSA.Registration of the teamwith the NE League is done by the coach or teammanager at theNebraskaLeaguewebsiteat:http://www.nebraskaleague.org/Whenfillingoutthisform,youmust include the dates that the team has conflicts (tournament dates, etc.). Reschedules(other thanweather related)will cost the teamrescheduling fees. Forfeitingofgames, finesassessedtocoachesorplayersforredcardsorotheroffensesarealsotheresponsibilityoftheteam.Pleasenote:OurDirectorofCoachingdeemsanygamesforfeitedasunacceptable.TheNLregistrationfeeispaidbyGretnaSoccerClubandisincludedintheplayers’registrationfees;althoughre-schedulefinesarenotandaretheresponsibilityoftheteam.MRL: Onlyone teamper agegroupwill beallowed toplay in theMidwestRegional League(MRL)andthisdecisionwillbemadebytheDirectorofCoaching.IfyourteamischosentoplayMRL,moreinformationwillbegiventoyouatthattime.

Registrationw/ENSAOurU8-U10Jr.SelectteamswillplaythroughtheEasternNebraskaSoccerAssociation(ENSA).Onceplayersareregisteredthroughtheonlineregistrationsystem,theClubAdministratorwillputtogethertheteam,pertheDOC,andsubmitteaminformationtoENSA.Scheduleswillbepostedthroughthisorganizationandcanbefoundattheirwebsite.http://www.ensa.us/
7. RegistrationforRecreational
U7-U12RECREATIONALSOCCER
AllU7-U12recreationalplayerswillplayintheSarpyCountySoccerLeague.www.sarpycountysoccer.org.Onceplayershaveregisteredonline,theClubAdministratorwillmakesuretheteamsareregisteredthroughSarpyCounty.
YouthRecreationalU7-U12feesfortheFall2013Seasonare$110.00.AllYouthRecreationalplayerswillordertheiruniformsthroughSoccer.comonlinethroughtheGSCWebsite.AllU7-U8playerswillneeda#3sizeball,U9-U12playerswillneeda#4sizeball.Cleatsareoptional,buthighlyrecommended.Nobaseballcleatswithatoecleatareallowed.Shinguardsarerequired.

Duringtheregularseason,therewillbetwotothreetrainingsessionsperweek.Playersshouldarriveattraining15minutespriortothesessionwithcleatsandshinguardsonreadytoplay.TrainingwithanotherGSCteamispermittedatanytime,aslongastheyseekpermissionfromyoutheHeadCoachandagreeduponbytheCoachyouwillbetrainingwith.Playersmustnot,however,misstheirownteamtrainingtoattendanothertrainingsession.
9. TrainingLocationsAllcoacheswillneedtofilloutthePracticeFieldRequestformfoundonourwebsite.Thisformneedstobefilledoutpriortothebeginningofeachseason. 14. DressCodeforAllGamesPlayers are recommended towear their GSCwarm-ups to games. Players should bring bothjerseystoALLgames.Nojewelryshouldbewornatanytime.
15. TeamUniformsandEquipmentAllcones,pinniesandtrainingequipmentaretobepurchasedbythecoachesifyouareapaid,independentcontractorworkingwithGretnaSoccerClub.Ifyouareaparentcoach,notbeingpaid, the Club may be able to provide training equipment for you. All cones, pinnies andtrainingequipmentarethepropertyofGretnaSoccerCluboryouthecoach.AlluniformswillbeorderedindividuallyonlinethroughSoccer.com.Everyplayerwillreceiveanemailindicatingthe“kit”thatisrequiredfortheirteam.Auniformkitcanveryperteamthecoach/teammanagerneedstomakesureeachplayerisawareofthis.
16. GretnaSoccerClubandNikeGretna Soccer Club is proud to have a relationship with Nike, Inc. and it is important wemaintain our part of the agreement. GSC players and coachesmust wear the Nike product.Under no circumstances should we allow players to play in games wearing a competitors’equipment(thisdoesnotincludecleats).Gretna Soccer Club asks that coaches wear a GSC shirt/coaching gear during all games. Acoachingkitwillbeprovidedtocoacheswhocoachatacertainlevelofplay.Forthosewhodonotreceiveacoachingkit,GSCgearwillbeavailableforpurchaseatadiscountedprice.

RegistrationFeesandCoachingFeesThecostofparticipationwithaGSCteamvariesdependingontheageof theplayerandthelevel of the team.All fees includeGretna SoccerClubCoaching Staff, administration, league,referee feesand insurance (not includingMidwestRegional League).The feesdonot includetraveltoandfromtrainingorgames.Allfeescanbeviewedontheclubwebsite@www.gretnasoccer.comunderthe“Registration”tab.http://www.gretnasoccer.com/page/show/22301-registration

AssistantCoach • If possibleassistant coaches should travel toand fromoutof towneventswith thehead
coach.Ifthatisnotpossiblemileagereimbursementispaidatarateof$.30permile.Thiswouldberound-tripfromassistantcoach’shometothefieldlocation.Iftheassistantcoachrideswithsomeoneelseanddoesn’tdrive,nomileagereimbursementwillbegiven.
o If the distance traveled is greater than 8 hours, airfaremay be required and the
assistantcoach’sairlineticketwillbepaidfor. Iftheassistantcoachtravelsbyair,mileage reimbursementwill notbepaid inanyamount forany reason. Generallyspeaking we would expect assistant coaches to drive (preferably ride with headcoach) to locations likeDenver, St. Louis,ChicagoorMinneapolisunlessanairlineticketischeaper.
o Iftheassistantcoachistravelingbyair, it isrecommendedthathe/shetravelwith
theheadcoachoraparentfromtheairporttohotelandsoccerfields,etc.butifthisis notpossible,AND thehead coach isnothaving the teampay for a rental car arental car may be needed and would be paid for by the team. The most likelyscenario for the assistant coach to get a rental carpaid forby the team is if theyweretheonlyonesattendingtheeventbecausetheheadcoachdidnottravel.
• Hotelroomsarepaid100%foranassistantcoachalthoughweprefertheassistantcoachto
share a roomwith the head coachwhen at all possible.We encourage teams to pay inadvanceusingtheteamaccounttohelpwithlogistics.

Fortraveltotournaments,leaguegamesandotheroutoftowneventsfamiliesareresponsibleforalloftheirowntravelexpenses,thoughhotelswillbebookedasagroup.Allplayersarerequiredtoattendtournamentsandleaguegames.Ifaplayerisunabletoattendanoutoftownevent,theywillstillberesponsibleforpayingtheirportionoftheregistrationfeesandalltravelexpensesforthecoachesasprescribedabove.
18. DevelopmentalClinicsandTryoutsDevelopmentalClinics(U8-U10)areusuallyheldendofMaytofirstfewweeksofJune.Thesedateswillbepublishedonclubwebsitewww.gretnasoccer.com,FacebookandTwitterinAprilofeachyear.Therearetwosessionsfordevelopmentalclinicsforeachagegroupandplayersareexpectedtoattendboth.Atthistimeplayersaregroupedtogetherforteamstocompeteinthefollowingseason.Tryouts(U11-U19)areusuallyheldafterRegionalsandpriortoJuly4th.Thesearetheofficialtryouts for GSC and are governed by Nebraska State Soccer in terms of dates. 19. TeamCampsTeamcampsareanintegralpartoftheGSCtrainingregimenforallU8-U19JuniorSelectandSelectteams.Theyareaweeklongcampandlastapproximately1.5hourseach.TeamCampsstartafter July4thandcango intomidAugust.Dates forcampswillbereleasedshortlyaftertryouts.Itisimportantthatallplayersattend.Thisisthestartoftheseasonandisatimewherealotisaccomplished.Itisnotonlyatimefortraining,butalsoatimetobuildteamandclubunity.Theenvironment thatplayerswill beput inwill bephysicallydemandingandeducational fromasoccerperspective.ItisimperativethatduringtheseteamcampshoursthatGSCcoachingstaffgetnumerouspointsacross.Thisisanimportantperiodforourplayersintheirnewseasonandatimewherethetonefortheseasonisset.

20. Secondary&GuestPlayingIf a playerwould like to secondary or guest play for another GSC team, the playermust gothrough both their own coach and the Director of Coaching, Digger Hawkins. Cost to playsecondarywithin the club is $100 and outside of the club is $150 this includes theirWinterTraining portion. Gretna Soccer Club does not allow any of our athletes to participate as asecondary player for other competitive clubs. For Secondary & Guest Playing enquiries theDirectorofCoachingMUSTBEcontactedandwillgiveFINALAPPROVALonallplayers.Playersandparentsshouldnotcontactothercoachesdirectly.
21. TeamManagerRolesandResponsibilitiesThe roleof theTeamManager for each travel team is very important. Communication flowsfromthemanagertoplayersandparents.Managersuseemailtocorrespondwiththeteamandkeep all participants informed on a timely basis. The manager is a volunteer and providesadministration to the team.Themanager isnot there to fieldcoachingquestions.Theteammanageristheliaisonbetweenthecoachandtheparentswithinformationontraining,fields,weather, tournaments, futsal, etc. Most communication will take place via email, but it isalwaysagoodideatohavecellphonenumbersforparentssoyoucangetintouchwiththemduringtournaments,etc.
22. TeamWebPageEachteamwillneedtosetupateamwebpageattheGretnaSoccerClubwebsite.Thispagewillincludeacalendarwhereyoucantrackpractices,games,etc.,aplacetoaddteamphotos,newsarticlesandmuchmore.Itisimportanttousethecalendarportionofyourwebpageandkeep itupdatedsoparentscangothereto lookup informationonpracticesandgames. Ifagameorpracticeiscancelled,theteamcalendarneedstobeupdatedtoreflectthisinformationASAP. Team camps and tournaments should also be included on the team calendars. 23. TeamAccount
Itisrecommendedthateachteamhaveacheckingaccount;pleaseuseabankofyourchoosingorPinnacleBankinGretna.Thisaccountwillbeusedtopayfortournaments,futsal,coachingfees,etc. Ateammaywanttocollectduespriortoeachseason. Thisbeingsaid, theremayothertimesthroughouttheyearwhenmoneywillneedtobecollectedforvariousevents,extratournaments,etc.(Seesampleofattachedbudgetsheet.)It isrecommendedthatyou“pad”theaccountfor incidentalcharges. Thesecan include,butmaynotbelimitedto:changefeeongames(whereyouwouldneedtochangethedateofaregulargameduetoconflicts),cancellationofagame,refereecharges,etc.Thesechargescanrange from$25.00 to$150.00andwill be collectedat theendof the season. Collection fortournaments,additionalindoorfees,incidentals,etc.willbetheteammanager’sresponsibility.Thecoachshouldhaveanideaofwhattournamentstheteamwillbeattending,soyoucangetanestimateofhowmuchyouneedtocollectfromeachfamily. Whencalculatingthecostoftournamentfeesperplayer,pleasemakesureyoualsoincludethecoach’shotelroom,gasandfood, if applicable. Youwillwant to checkwith your coachonwhat their expectation is fortournamenttravel.It is also recommended that you keep a spreadsheet for your team showing your checkingaccountdebitsandcredits,alogofdepositsbypersonandaworksheetforeachfamily.(Pleaseseetheattacheddocumentandfeelfreetousethisandmakeityourown.)

TournamentsAlistingoftournamentscanbefoundattheNebraskaStateSoccerAssociationwebsiteunderthe“Events”tabat:http://www.nebraskastatesoccer.org/events/tournamentsn.aspx.Determinetournamentsearlyasspotswillbefilledfast.It ishighlyrecommendedthatallGSCteams(U8-U14)participate intheGSCCentrisCupandGSCKick-StartIndoorChampionships.Pleasenote:Registeringforoutofstatetournamentsrequiresadditionaldocumentationfromthe team. These may include: notarized medical release forms, additional copies of yourofficialteamroster,guestplayerform(ifneeded)andtravelpermitform(ifthetournamentisinadifferentstate).ThesedocumentscanbefoundattheNebraskaStateSoccerAssociationwebsite under the “Administration” tab – Forms and Documentshttp://www.nebraskastatesoccer.org/aboutus/forms.aspx.When registering for tournaments, it should be noted that divisions in other statesmay bedifferentthanNebraska,sopleasecheckwithyourcoachortheDOCifyouareunsureofwhatdivision your team should be registering for at the tournament. Also, some states havemaximumrostersize(numberofplayersallowedtoparticipate)thatislessthantherostersizeallowedbythestateofNebraska.

Gretna Soccer Club provides various camps during the year throughDiggerHawkins PremierSoccerandthroughthecoachingstaff.Examplesofsomeofthesecampsare:CollegeCamp SelectTeamCampFootworkAcademy StrikerCampGoalkeeperCamp SummerCampMicroAcademy WinterAcademyWe also provideour playerswith a listing of camps throughout theOmaha and surroundingareas that they may be interested in attending such as the Creighton Soccer Camps, UNOSoccer Camps, etc. All of this information can be found on our website(www.gretnasoccer.com)underthe“Camps&Clinics”tab.

ZoomReportsZoomReportsareusedtoprovidefeedbacktoyourplayers.PlayerEvaluationsshouldbecompletedby:FallbyNovember1stSpringbyMay31st(SpringStateCupteamsafterStateCuppriortotryouts)Itisexpectedthatyouprovidebothascoreandwrittenfeedbacktoeveryplayer.Forwritteninformationispre-filledtobetimeeffective.ItisrecommendedyouholdameetingwithPlayerandatleastoneoftheParentstogooverthePlayerEvaluation.

FamilyInvolvementProgram(DIBS)Inordertomakeyoufeellikeapartofourorganizationandtohelpkeepourregistrationcostsdown,theFamilyInvolvementProgramisutilized.ByvolunteeringyourtimeandtalenttotheGretnaSoccerClub,youarehelpingourplayersandwethankyouforyourcontributions!ThisprogramisrequiredforallfamilieswhohaveplayersintheJr.SelectandSelectprograms.Thatbeingsaid,wewouldloveallofourfamiliestobeinvolvedandvolunteersoevenifyourchilddoesnotparticipateintheseprograms,pleasefeelfreetosignupforvolunteeropportunities.Ourprogramismanagedusingatoolonourwebsitecalled“Dibs.”Dibsissimplyaplacetoviewavailablevolunteeropportunitiesandtomakeacommitmenttothoseavailableopportunities.JustclickonDibstoseehowyoucanhelp!

IndoorTrainingIndoortrainingisanintegralpartoftheGSCdevelopmentalprocessforourU8-U19teams.As part of the registration U8-U10 Academy players and U11-U19 Select players will get 15sessions included with their registration. Anything above and beyond that will have to besupplementedbytheteamgenerallyfromtheteamaccountandadditionalmoneypaidat$70perhourperquadtoGRETNASPORTSCOMPLEX.PleaseNote:Inordertobookindoorrentalspace,gototheGretnaSoccerClubwebsiteandclickontheGretnaSportsComplextab.Rentalspaceisbookedonlineandpaymentisdueatthetimeofrentalbyplacingacheck,payabletotheGretnaSportsComplex,intothedropboxinsidethecomplex.Therentalfeewillbelistedonthewebsitewhenbooking.PlayersmustfillouttheonlinewaiverinorderforthemtoparticipateinactivitiesatGretnaSports Complex.
