    Hand Placement and Stance

    With the throwing hand on top, thumbs together, place the top hand under the backside of the center.

    Knees flexed with a slight bend at the waist, back is flat, stand tall

    Receiving the Snap

    Pull the ball into your belly (seat the ball)

    Protect the ball by keeping two hands on it at all times

    Keep the eyes down field

    Dip the front shoulder to assure proper weight transfer

    Executing the 3 Step Drop

    Make a pre-snap read (best look side)1 big distance step eyes down field2 little gather steps eyes to pre-snap read side

    Trying to reach a depth of 5 yardsBall should be thrown in approximately 2.2 seconds or less

    Executing the 5 Step Drop

    Pre-snap choose the best look side

    3 big distance step eyes down field

    2 little gather steps eyes to chosen best look side

    Hitch back up into the pocket

    Trying to reach a depth of 7 yards

    Ball should be thrown in approximately 2.5 to 3 seconds

    Should maintain good ball placement

    Keep two hands on the ball

    Shorten the steps as you get ready to throwTurn at the waist and get the shoulders in line with the target

    Position a WR in a different location every time

    On command the QB should open his eyes and find the WR, get aligned,

    set his feet, and make a strong accurate throw.

    Practicing Throwing on the Run

    Opposite Foot Drill Stand with your trail foot forward about heel to toe relation, role up onto

    the toes as you release the ball

    Normal Foot Drill Stand with your lead foot forward about heel to toe relation, role up onto

    the toes as you release the ball

    Down the Line 10 15 yards apart running across the field, turn the upper body at the

    waist and shorten the steps as you get ready to throw, role up onto the

    toes as you release the ball

    Sprint Out Drill Open to the sprint out side, aiming for a depth of 7 yards, turn at the waist,shorten the steps, role up onto the toes as you release the ball, followthrough by running through the target

    Practicing Pocket Awareness & Movement

    Wave Drill Rt, Lt, Up, Back, Diagonal Short choppy steps, keep ball loaded, maintain good pre-pass stance

    Progression Feet 5 step drop, upon set the coach calls out Rt, Lt, middle, the QB should

    shift his feet in the called direction and maintain a good Pre-Pass stanceuntil told to throw

    Pocket Bags/Cones Lie 3 bags or 3 rows of cones down, QB should start from and maintain the

    Pre-Pass stance, Coach calls out forwards, backwards, zigzag, and throw

    Escape Drill 5 step drop, avoid the rush by escaping the pocket, back door, front door, or

    up and out. Keep good ball placement as you escape the pocket, so youwill be able to throw at any time.
