Coaching’s Success lies in ACTION

It is not the critic who counts, not the man who points out how the strong man stumbled, or where the doer of deeds could have done better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly, who errs and comes short again and again, who knows the great enthusiasms, the great devotions, and spends himself in a worthy cause, who at best knows achievement and who at the worst if he fails at least fails while daring greatly so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat.

• Meet the Questions Coach; Socrates.

The Curious Coach

• Clarificationo What do you mean by that?o Could you explain that another way?o Could you cite an example? o Why do you say that? o How does this relate to the discussion?

• Probing Assumptionso What are the assumptions relative to?o How did you formulate and choose those

assumptions?o What could we possibly assume instead?o How can the assumption be validated/verified?

Keep Digging…

• Probing Motivations and Evidence o How do you know?o Why do you think that is true?o What would change your mind?o What are the primary drivers or cause? o Where is the incentives? o Where are the audit points?

Perspective

• What would be an alternative viewpoint?• What is another way to look at it?• Why is this considered the best solution?• What are the Strengths/Weaknesses of potential

outcomes? • What are the counter-arguments to the

evaluation/assessment? • How can we find out?

Implications / Consequences

• What does that mean?• Why do you think the question was asked?• What generalizations can be made?• What are you implying?• Which variables can be identified? • What are the direct results of those variables?
