Coalition for Imaging & Bioengineering Research (CIBR) Established in 2008 by the Academy for Radiology & Biomedical Imaging Research as a division of the Academy, the Coalition for Imaging and Bioengineering Research (CIBR) exists to ensure that the collective voice of the imaging research community is both unified and diverse. Effective advocacy requires participation and engagement of all stakeholders to support the achievement of our mission by raising the profile of imaging research to facilitate and sustain support for federal investment in imaging research. CIBR represents a collective voice in support of imaging research with nearly 200 members, including patient advocacy groups, academic radiology departments, imaging societies, bioengineering organizations and industry partners. Our patient advocacy group membership comprises a spectrum of diseases that benefit from medical imaging technology for their detection, diagnosis, and/or treatment. More than 90% of the diseases studied at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) benefit from the utilization of imaging and imaging research. CIBR membership represents the trifecta of medical research and advocacy; academia, patient advocates and industry. Together, they advocate on behalf of imaging research for federal support of that research to policy makers and other federal stakeholders.

Coalition for Imaging & Bioengineering Research (CIBR)

Established in 2008 by the Academy for Radiology & Biomedical Imaging Research as a division ofthe Academy, the Coalition for Imaging and Bioengineering Research (CIBR) exists to ensure that thecollective voice of the imaging research community is both unified and diverse. Effective advocacyrequires participation and engagement of all stakeholders to support the achievement of our missionby raising the profile of imaging research to facilitate and sustain support for federal investment inimaging research.

CIBR represents a collective voice in support of imaging research with nearly 200 members, includingpatient advocacy groups, academic radiology departments, imaging societies, bioengineeringorganizations and industry partners. Our patient advocacy group membership comprises a spectrumof diseases that benefit from medical imaging technology for their detection, diagnosis, and/ortreatment. More than 90% of the diseases studied at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) benefitfrom the utilization of imaging and imaging research. CIBR membership represents the trifecta ofmedical research and advocacy; academia, patient advocates and industry. Together, they advocateon behalf of imaging research for federal support of that research to policy makers and other federalstakeholders.

CIBR industry members enjoy several benefits including:• A seat on the CIBR Steering Committee.• Networking opportunities within the imaging community, including patient advocates, academic leadership, imagingresearchers, and your fellow industry representatives.• Legislative updates on policy relating to imaging research fromWashington, DC via our website, newsletter and directcorrespondence.• Opportunities to engage in our grassroots efforts showing support for increased federal funding forimaging research.• Opportunity to participate in the Medical Imaging Technology Showcase, CIBR’s signature event onCapitol Hill. This annual event features interactive medical imaging technology displays andhighlights early career academic research that illustrates the impact imaging research has onpatient care. • Inclusion in our annual academic/industry research roundtable in Washington DC. • Participation in the annual CIBR Steering Committee meeting at the RSNA.• Attend our annual Academy Symposia. • Connect with the Academy’s Council of Distinguished Investigators and the Council of Early CareerInvestigators to share, collaborate and learn about their research efforts.

We hope you will consider joining CIBR. In the world of advocacy, keeping an eye on issues ofrelevance such as potential budget cuts, a constantly shifting political environment and shrinkingfunding sources is critical. Consistently identifying what is valuable for policymakers from one end ofthe political spectrum to the other and learning to illustrate the value of imaging research in a way thatresonates is what will enable the imaging community to collectively succeed. We hope you will join usin this effort.
