Helpful Tips Removing wAteR mARkS
If you have wood furniture, such as a dining table, coffee table or even a dresser, you might want to be careful to not leave liquids on the sur-face. If you do, you might see marks similar to the one pictured to the left. These are water marks and many people think they are irrepa-rable. But if you act quickly, there are a few household methods to removing these stains without using any harmful chemicals. The first thing to remember, though, is to avoid rubbing, scrubbing or wiping the liquid off the wood surface. Try to blot it out gently and quickly using a clean cotton towel.
MayonnaiseApply a generous layer of mayonnaise onto the mark and leave it over night. In the morning wipe the surface with a thick cotton cloth.
ToothpastePolish the mark with white toothpaste until it disappears. Remember to use a white paste, not a gel!
AshesIf there’s a smoker in the house, you can use those cigar or cigarette ashes to rub into the mark until it disappears.
Baking SodaMix baking soda and water to make a paste. Rub the paste into the stain and leave it overnight then wipe with a cotton cloth in the morning.

A Sip of JasmineIn northern China it is customary to serve Jasmine tea as a welcoming gesture to guests. Appropriately, our living room collection is named after this delicate flower for its symbol-ism of warmth and hospitality.
The moment you enter this room, you are welcomed by all the warm, reddish neutrals from the walls to the floor. The space also seems open and airy because of the white upholstery pieces as well as the glass tabletops of the cof-fee table and end tables. Matted in white and framed in black, subtle and simple drawings of foliage are hung neatly on the plain “Kangaroo Tan” wall.
In the back of the room is a black and white screen, which creates texture and a balanced asymmetry in the room. Also, the smooth tex-ture of the leather upholstery is complimented by a “Ruby Ring” red shag floor rug. All the main furniture pieces are positioned towards the center of the room, creating a perfect place to gather and socialize.
Complete this living room with a complimenta-ry coffee table and end tables, decorated with red and white accessories. Also a simple TV console is the perfect media storage solution.

The main pieces in a bedroom are usually
the bed, mattress and dresser. In this set, the
dresser is paired with a matching mirror above
the dresser. Having a large mirror in your
room will provide depth and lighting.
The minor pieces of a bedroom may include
a night stand, chest of drawers, a bench,
vanities and armoires. They often compliment
the main pieces in look and material. In
this case: a mahogany wood finish.
Accents and lighting are important in the
bedroom because this is where your
personality comes out. Accessorize with
complementary colors and textures. In this
set, warm earth tones are used.

Do It Yourself mAking youR own CouCh pillowS
Sometimes when you buy a couch set, you just can’t find those per-fect pillows that express exactly what you wanted. Or you may have been staring at the same pillows for years and feel that your living room needs a redesign. The best way to accomplish both is by mak-ing your own pillows. This gives you flexibility for style, material, size and plushness. Here’s a few simple steps to make your own couch pillows. And to the left are some examples of pillow and couch com-binations that we’ve created. Have fun.
1. Picking a FabricFirst, examine your room. What color is your sofa and furniture? What are they made out of? What color is your floor? What color are your accessories? All of these surrounding items play a role in the way your eyes perceive your room. You want your pillows to compliment all of these items. Since the pillows will actually be sitting on the couch, make sure they have enough contrast in color and material to stand out, but are not too overwhelming. Also, what do you want your pil-lows to feel like: silky, fuzzy, smooth, ridged, etc? It might help to take a photo of your room with you when you go shopping for fabric.
2. Picking a SizeOnce you’ve picked out the fabric, you need to pick the size of your pillows. Pick a size that allows people to sit comfortably on the couch, but large enough to add style to your couch.
3. cuttingMeasure out the size you want on the backside of the fabric, adding a 3/4 inch all around. Cut and repeat. You should have two pieces, front and back. You can use sewing chalk to mark your lines.
4. Pinning and SewingPin three sides of the pillow so they stay together as you sew. Using a sewing machine, sew along the three pinned sides. Turn the cover right side out and stuff your pillow. This is when plushness/firmness comes into play. You’re in control of how soft or firm you want your pillows to be. Then pinch the fourth side together and sew by hand using small, even stitches. Now place them on your couch and enjoy the new look of your living room!
