What’s Happening This Month
See page three.
Wow!! It's been a very hot summer this year! I
hope we remember how "Hot" it was come next
winter when we're freezing. The last couple of weeks
have been jam packed with a lot of events such as
the Lockport Corvette night, St John the Baptist car
show, Hoover's Dairy car show, Main Up Car Show, a
trial run of the 12th Annual COB Caravan route,
American Legion Post cruise, Canal Fest in the
Tonawanda’s, and the Rochester Corvette show.
As I write this article many of us are looking
forward to the American Legion Post cruise, the
Beachwood Homes Root Beer Float Cruise, Vettes at
the Beach, and a Taste of Clarence, plus numerous
other events in the month of August. I personally
would like to thank Lynda Graham for keeping the
members up to date on weekly events as well as Bob
& Norma Joseph for setting up the Caravan trial run
and lunch at Max's, Bruce Mussehl for setting up the
St. John's show, and Dick & Sue Brownlee for
organizing the trip to the Rochester Corvette show
and dinner afterword’s.
I hope everyone is looking forward to our annual
COB picnic to be held on Sunday, August 14, at
Fireman's Park in the City of Tonawanda. Look for
details on the picnic in this month's newsletter.
Remember there is NO monthly meeting at the
church this month. We will have a brief meeting at
the picnic. As a reminder, if you have door prizes for
the Caravan or items for goodie bags please bring
them to the picnic.
Have a great summer and I hope to see you at
an upcoming event.

1978 Indy 500 Pace Car Replica
The Corvette paced the Indy 500 for the first time this year, and Chevy marked the occasion with a limited-edition Pace Car Replica model. It included a two-tone paint scheme with red detail striping, mirror-tinted T-tops, and special VIN numbers. Chevy had initially planned to produce 300 as a nod to the production run of the original ’53 model, but the automaker gave way to demand and some 6500 were produced.

CORVETTES OF BUFFALO AT WATKIN GLENN CORVETTE CORRAL
Just wanted to share with everyone the fact that Watkins Glenn was great and the group of
us who attended had a lot of fun.
In the Corvette Corral we ate and drank all weekend which was provided by the Corral. We
had a continental breakfast Saturday and Sunday and on Sunday afternoon they provided a
great lunch.
Sunday they gave away prizes and Jim Brett won a set of Michelin tires. I won an 18th scale
model of a CR6 racer. Saturday at dinner out in front of the restaurant Pete & Rose Ricigliano
meet a rep from Weather Tech and they were given 2 tix to the V.I.P. tent at the Glenn which I
was told was pretty nice.
I want to thank everyone that was there for bringing snacks and drinks for the C.O.B. after
party in the motel parking lot, what a great time that was.
I think everybody should experience the Corvette Corral racing at the Glenn after all it is in
our own backyard.

BLOOMINGTON GOLD 2016
Our journey to Bloomington Gold 2016 in Indianapolis began when 10 corvettes from COB met at the Angola rest stop on the NY thruway. Before departing on our journey we were joined by six more corvettes from the Rochester corvette club. After 525 miles and several bathroom stops and a stop for lunch we arrived at our hotel approximately 9 hours later. During our trip we were aware and wary of severe storm warnings on our way and at our destination. Thankfully this did not occur. Our hotel was nice although being a host hotel there were no special notices or amenities awaiting us. On most other trips we have undertaken, our stays have been uneventful. However, on the second night we were awakened by the fire alarm around 5:30 in the morning. It turned out to be a false alarm set off by a steam cooker in the kitchen. Our hotel was approximately 13 miles from the Indianapolis speedway where Bloomington Gold was being held. Upon arriving at the site on our first morning we were directed to our reserved parking for both our clubs on the infield. As we often do the first thing we did was erect our three tents. Ours were the only tents to be seen among all the parking. They turned out to be a life saver as it was hot and humid during our entire trip. We were quite far from the vendors and bathrooms which meant a lot of walking in all that heat. On the second day there, some of us rented either a scooter or a golf cart to get around which made life much easier. Just behind where we were parked was a long straightaway in the road course within the infield which also had nine holes of a golf course. On this straightaway you could get a ride with a professional driver from the Ron Fellows Performance Driving School in one of their cars. They would begin from a stop or a slow roll and get to around 100 mph in fourth gear before slowing for a turn where they would turn around and take a somewhat slower return ride. Most of our party did take the ride. Many of us also opted for two laps around the speedway. We all knew how long the track was (2.5 miles) but until you were on the track and driving you did not appreciate just how big it was and appreciate the speeds the Indy cars could obtain. We were escorted in our laps by a pace car that proceeded around the track at 60 to 65 mph. However by lagging behind most of us were able to reach or closely approach 100 mph. One of our members was a real daredevil and lagged far enough behind to achieve 127 mph on the straightaway. It was an experience enjoyed by all. At the end of the last day some of our members participated in a parade lap around the track and then took a twenty mile caravan ride. All in all it was a good trip but very tiring due to the heat and all the walking. It also was probably one day too long once you visited all the vendors and participated in the events you chose to do. Rich Zahner and Carole Rotando

Two-Way Radio Etiquette
With the arrival of warm weather and Corvette
cruising at its finest, we will be using our two-way
radios more often. With this in mind it is time to
brush up on “Two-Way Radio Etiquette”
Be prepared. Ensure the battery is charged and the power is on. Keep
the volume high enough to be able to hear calls.
Confirm the channel being used. When using a two-way radio you cannot speak and listen at
the same time, as you can with a phone. It is important to understand the differences
between a telephone and a two-way radio. Two-way radios are not like a telephone.
Telephones and cell phones are "full-duplex" which means you can talk and listen at the
same time.
Most two way radios are "simplex" which means you cannot hear anyone while you have the
talk button pressed.
4 Golden Rules of Radio Communication
1. Clarity:
Your voice should be clear. Speak a little slower than normal.
Speak in a normal tone, do not shout.
2. Simplicity:
Keep your message simple enough for listeners to understand.
3. Brevity:
Be precise and to the point.
4. Security:
Do not transmit confidential information on a radio unless you know the proper security
technology place. Remember, frequencies are shared; you do not have exclusive use of the
frequency.
Hold the receiver several inches away from your mouth. Holding the mic too close will garble
the transmission. Speak slowly and clearly so that the listener may understand you, and spell
unusual terms if necessary. There may be static or background noises competing for the
listener's ear.
Don't speak immediately when you press the PTT (push to talk), especially with digital radios
which among all their benefits have slightly longer delay. Wait 2-3 seconds. If you speak as
soon you press the PTT button, it can chop off your the first syllable or word, making you
hard to understand. If that word doesn't make it, you will just have to say it again and run
down your batteries faster.
Transmit only speech on a two-way radio. The Federal Communications Commission forbids
the transmission of "sound effects (music, whistling, etc.) or obscene, profane, or indecent
words." Also avoid noises strictly intended to attract attention or cause alarm.
Most of all, have fun while cruising and enjoy the ride.

What The Hell’s Going On At Bowling Green?? Chevrolet just announced another investment in Bowling Green Final Assembly, the home of the
Corvette. General Motors
has disclosed it will
invest $290 million in the
plant to improve
assembly technology and
processes on top of an
earlier $439 million
investment slated for
a new 450,000-square-
foot paint shop that
increases factory floor
space by fifty percent.
That’s almost two-thirds
of a billion dollars folks.
What’s going on at
Bowling Green?
With rumors swirling
around about
the Corvette migrating away from front-engine, RWD to a mid-engine configuration and moving even
further upscale price wise, we think increasing the factory floor space by fifty percent would indicate
an additional model, not a replacement for the front-engined car.
Here at Corvette Online,
we think that a sole mid-
engine model would
drastically hinder
Corvette sales which are
hovering around 30k
units a year. A halo
model makes more
sense as it would attract
a higher end buyer and
fulfill long rumored GM
goals of expanding
the Corvette lineup and
stoking the brand with
multiple models, i.e.
Porsche.
17
CORVETTES of BUFFALO
Or, is Chevy really going to ditch the front-engined, RWD blueprint that has worked so well for
Corvette over the last 63 years? Is all this upgrading to the plant to facilitate assembly of an more
complicated and complex new model? Would Chevy walk away from the market it’s dominated for
over half a century??
No way.
If that indeed does happen, we think the Camaro, which is already essentially a 4-seat Corvette, will
be groomed to take over that market.
That would make sense in lieu of mid-engine model only Corvette lineup.
According to scuttlebutt on the interwebs, the next-generation C8 Corvette will be bowing in Detroit
for 2018. According to the murmurs, Corvette is expected to move to a mid-engine platform in both
left- and right-hand-drive configurations, helping GM to expand sales around the globe for the first
time.
Kentucky’s Lt. Gov. Crit Luallen comments during the previous investment announcement in the
Corvette plant might have tipped her hand to us. “The Corvette is one of Kentucky’s most-cherished
icons,” she said. “Such a significant expansion of the Bowling Green assembly plant will help the
company remain competitive in the region and around the world.”
Hmmm. What say you? Do you want to see a mid-engine only Corvette line up or a halo model on top
the Corvette range?
