Q2. i) The magnitude of the resultant of two equal vectors is equal to the magnitude of either vector, find the angle between them. OR

An object moves along a straight line from (7, 3, -5) to (2, 5, -2) when a force of �� = 3i� + 4j ̂+ 5k� acts on it. Find the work done by the force.

ii) A 5000gm particle moves along xy –plane. At an instant its displacement coordinates are (2, 4) m and velocity components are (5i +4j) m/s. Determine its angular momentum and torque just after every 2 seconds. OR

Two bodies of masses 100 Kg and 10 kg are placed 1m from each other. Treating the heavy body is at origin, determine the centre of mass of the system of particles. OR

A 15m ladder weighing 350N rests against a smooth vertical wall at a point 12 m above the ground. The centre of gravity is one – third the way up. A boy of mass 47 Kg climbs half way up the ladder. Assuming that the wall is smooth, find the reaction of the ground and the wall.

iii) Show that torque is equal to rate of change of angular momentum. OR

Define moment of force and moment of couple. Show that the moment of couple is independent of choice of origin.

vi) A 50 gm bullet is fired into the block of mass of 15 Kg that is suspended by a long cord so that it can swing. If the centre of gravity of the block rises by 15 cm then calculate the speed of bullet. OR

A wooden ball of mass 10gm is suspended by a thread. The horizontal current of air blows it one side so that thread makes an angle of 600 with the vertical. Find the tension in the thread and the force of air current.

vii) A 4 meter long string having a mass of 0.008kg is stretched horizontally by passing one end over a pulley and attaching a 1Kg of mass to it. Find the speed of transverse wave in the string and frequency of third harmonic. OR

Find the velocity of sound in a gas in which two waves of wavelength 0.80m and 0.81m produce four beats per seconds.

viii) Discuss the aberration of lenses. How can they be removed? OR

Describe the construction and working of Michelson interferometer? OR

Two thin lenses of focal length f1 and f

2 are placed in contact. Find the equation for the focal length

of their combination. Also find the power of this combination.

ix) A Source of sound and a listener are moving towards each other with the velocities which are 0.5 times and 0.2 times the speed of sound respectively. If the source is emitting 2000 Hz tone. Calculate the frequency heard by listener. OR

A sound wave of frequency 4000Hz is initially propagating in a region where temperature is 27oC. Calculate the percent change in wavelength when it enters another region at 10oC.

x) Watchmaker use a converging lens of focal length 5 cm as magnifying glass to see small spring. Then calculate (a) the distance of the spring from the lens. (b) the angular magnification. OR

If the radius of the 5th

above the horizontal and move along at a speed of 6 miles per hour. How much work does the horse do in 10 minutes and what is the power output of the horse in horse power. (1 mile = 5280 ft, 1hp = 550 lb. ft sec-1)

OR A pump is needed to lift the water through the height of 3.5m at the rate of 500gm per minute.

What must the minimum horse power of the pump be?

xiii) Discuss a process in which two slightly different frequencies superimpose with each other. Derive

the relevant expression and write the conditions for good acoustics. OR

xiv) Tarzan swings on a vine of length 4m in a vertical circle under the influence of gravity. When vine makes an angle of 200

Define centripetal acceleration. Derive the relevant mathematical expressions for it.

xv) An X – ray beam of wavelength λ undergoes a first order reflection from a crystal when its angle of

order diffraction when its angle of incident is 60.00. If both beams reflect from the same plane find
