THE SCORE
To compose without any or very little preparation, to extemporize, or to improvise, is what this book is about, and though a certain amount of technique and skill may have been employed in perform them, the compositions themselves, that is the acact of drawing the images on to paper in the first place was without exception improvised. That they are informed by object, place, time and experience, is the point. The word score is complex, but in this case my intention was to imply not only the idea of making marks, or keeping a register or tally of ideas, but also the orchestral sense of moving through time with silence and sound.
