During a trip to El Salvador in January 2013, Mike Zig discovered a farm that grew some of the best tasting coconuts in the world. While playing golf one day, Mike’s friend poked a hole into a coconut with a key, threw in a straw, and handed it to him. Born and raised in Miami, Mike grew up on coconuts, but he had never encountered a coconut that was so easy to open or as delicious as this one.

After a little research, Mike soon learned that this rare breed of coconut came from an abandoned coconut farm that Almond Joy candies had planted in the region over 100 years ago. Determined to spread the word about these rare and delicious coconuts, Mike filled up his luggage with as many coconuts as he could and smuggled them back to Miami.

After receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback from friends and influencers in the local food/beverage industry, Mike enlisted his sister, Danielle Zighelboim, a Babson graduate, to help him build a business while he developed a brand. Since then, the sibling duo has been the driving force behind the hustle, smuggling coconuts into the hands of influential celebrities such as: Drake, Martha Stewart, Prince Harry, Adrian Grenier, Steve Tyler, Kendall Jenner, Bobby Flay…and pretty much every celebrity in between.

We bring the coconuts up from El Salvador the same week they are picked in a constant cold chain from the time they are peeled to the moment they arrive at your venue. When you see our brand on the outside of the coconut, you can be assured that you are drinking the sweetest and freshest coconut water out there.

We hand cut and peel every coconut on the farm.

They then travel in climate-controlled river boats and trucks to our engraving facility within one business day.

Coconuts are inspected, engraved, and palletized in our facility.

Cold chain begins 36-48 hours after receiving coconuts.

Cold chain is monitored via temperature controls on route to USA warehouse in Miami.

All product is FDA inspected and released and does not require juice HACCP.

Shelf life: 5 weeks from cut, 3-4 weeks from point of distribution.

What’s the difference between Coconut Cartel and young Thai coconuts?

Our coconuts are a pacific breed of coconuts found in the coastal regions of pacific Central America.

They offer a different taste to Asian varieties.

They are never dipped in preservatives and color bleaches.

How do you “stamp” the coconut?

All coconuts are first hand peeled and shaven. We then use our patent pending method to laser etch

engravings onto the coconut shell.
