Entry requirements

School LeaversOne of the most common entry pathways into COFA and UNSW is the completion of the NSW HSC or equivalent including interstate qualifications, International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB), and other selected overseas secondary qualifications. Your academic achievement in this category is assessed on the basis of your final marks, in NSW this is referred to as your Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank or ATAR. In some cases, UNSW rewards bonus points to students who perform well in subjects during their Australian Senior Secondary Certificate that are relevant to their preferred UNSW degree. This program is called HSC Plus and more information is available from: www.unsw.edu.au/domestic-undergraduate/hsc-plus

If your academic achievement from the HSC or equivalent is not sufficient to gain entry on its own, COFA provides the opportunity for some students to be assessed on the basis of your past creative work, see Portfolio Entry across for details.

Completed Tertiary QualificationsIf you have undertaken study after high school, you will be considered for selection on the basis of your overall record, meaning both secondary and tertiary studies. In general, greater weight will be given to your tertiary record.

TAFE and Private College QualificationsIf you have completed an AQF qualification, including a Certificate Level IV, a Diploma or Advanced Diploma, these are all acceptable documents for admissions consideration. Trade Certificates are not acceptable.

Incomplete Degree Level StudiesIf you have successfully completed the equivalent of one year of full-time university study in Australia, you are eligible to be considered for admission.

International DegreesUniversity studies undertaken overseas can also be considered for admissions.

Mature Age StudentsIf you do not possess any of the qualifications outlined, there are other avenues available. The most appropriate will depend on your age, previous educational qualifications and the program you would like to study. For advice on the best pathway, contact UNSW Admissions by phone on (02) 9385 3656.

All COfA applications are assessed based on previous academic achievement. There are a variety of ways in which applicants can demonstrate previous academic achievement including through the most common pathways, which are outlined below. if you would like to discuss how this relates to your personal circumstances please contact unSW Admissions by phone on (02) 9385 3656.

Portfolio EntryIn addition to assessing your academic achievement, domestic applicants are able to supplement their application through a portfolio of creative work. Using the ATAR as a single selection criterion has not always provided an opportunity for applicants to demonstrate their aptitude for creative study. Portfolios will complement your academic achievement and provide an opportunity for you to provide additional material that demonstrates your potential in creative disciplines. This option is recommended if you may not achieve the highly competitive ATAR cut-offs for our sought after degrees. All Portfolios must be submitted electronically through the COFA website. Applications close in December the year prior to entry and more information is available from: www.cofa.unsw.edu.au/degrees/how-to-apply/

All COFA applications are assessed based on previous academic achievement.

Local StudentsAll local applicants (and international students who have completed high school in Australia) apply using the UAC Apply-by-Web facility. Please note a processing charge does apply. Check the University Admissions Centre Guide or website for exact dates and other information.

University Admissions Centre Phone (02) 9752 0200 Web www.uac.edu.au

International StudentsInternational students who did not complete high school in Australia can apply by visiting the UNSW entry portal at: www.apply.unsw.edu.au

International applicants should also consult the UNSW International Undergraduate Prospectus for information regarding admissions requirements.

The prospectus can be downloaded from: www.international.unsw.edu.au

Alternatively you can email [email protected] with your postal address and we will send you a copy.
