Bible and W omen La Querelle des F emmes International Colloquium F acultad de Letras, Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha Ciudad Real / Almagro 12-13 December 2019 Place: Salón de grados, Facultad de Letras, Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha, Ciudad Real Palacion de Valparaíso, Almagro Organized by: Poridad. Grupo de Investigación - Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha With the contribution of: Facultad de Letras UCLM Universität Graz Proyecto I+D: Munarqas - PGC2018-099205-B-C21 A number of studies have highlighted the importance of biblical quotations and scriptural arguments in the “Querelle des femmes”, the famous on-going debate on the role of women and men throughout the fifteenth to eighteenth centuries. Never- theless, the weight of religion and more specifically of the Bible in the „Querelle des fe- mmes“ is scarcely addressed by the historiography dedicated to the topic. To this day, there is no systematic enquiry that deals in detail with the phenomenon in its various manifestations. In light of this observation, this workshop’s aim is to develop an inno- vative volume for the series The Bible and Women (ed. by Christiana de Groot, Irm- traud Fischer, Mercedes Navarro and Adriana Valerio). It will allow us to appreciate the reception of the Bible, its uses, and its influence in the context of a crucial moment of the social, political, and cultural history of European societies. Moreover, by focusing on religious and biblical aspects, a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of the political, cultural, and religious sides of the “Querelle des Femmes” will be gained.
