What is Coffee?

Coffee is the most popular drink all over the world.

The first coffee was cultivated in Yemen, Arabia.

Coffee beans grow on trees. It is evergreen shrubs, that grows about

2-3m high. It carries small, oval, red fruit called a berry.

The berry is 1,5cm long. Two coffee beans are found in the berry.

Green coffee beans have no aroma or flavour. They have to be roasted

to release their aroma and flavour.

When the coffee bean is roasted, moisture is lost. Caramelisation

occurs when the starch is broken down to simple sugars by the heat.

After roasting, coffee is ground.
