CLUB ETIQUETTE FOR MEN AND LADIES
1. Practicing on the course is prohibited anywhere but on the defined practice fairway, except that a
member may play a practice round having not more than two balls in play, but not when
competitions are in progress.
2. No one should move, talk or stand close to or directly behind the ball or the hole when a player
is addressing the ball or making a stroke.
3. In the interest of all, players should play without delay.
4. Players searching for a ball should signal the players behind them to pass as soon as it becomes
apparent that the ball will not easily be found. They should not search for three minutes before
doing so. They should not continue play until the players following them have passed and are out of
range.
5. Before leaving a bunker players should carefully fill up and smooth over all holes and footprints
made by them. Leave rakes as near as possible to the centre of the bunker.
6. Leave buggies at the spot most accessible to the next tee.
7. Do not discuss the score on the green, but walk smartly to the next tee, where the player with
the honour hits off and then writes down their score.
8. Dress rules apply. (See board).
9. Repair all divots - Sand buckets are provided near the first and tenth tees and members and their
visitors are required to carry and use one.
10. Avoid walking or wheeling buggies in areas designated G.U.R. except as necessary to retrieve
your ball.
11. Keep buggies off teeing grounds.
12. Pug marks on the putting green should be carefully repaired. Damage to the putting green
caused by shoe spikes should be repaired on completion of the hole.
13. Golf Cart Etiquette – Golf is a game played at walking pace and should be enjoyed by all who
play. As driving a golf cart is a privilege, not a right, please respect the rights of the walking golfer.
CART AND BUGGY SHED HIRE - Members can hire a key to the cart and buggy shed by contacting the
Secretary.

Members of Reciprocal Rights Clubs may play for half the normal green fee, with the normal
competition fee to be paid if the visitor wishes to play in the daily competition. Full tournament fees
apply.
Cohuna Club members will have the same rights at the reciprocating clubs.
VISITORS - GUESTS TO BE SIGNED IN
Members introducing visitors to the club’s licensed premises NOT playing in a Club competition
must be signed into the Visitors Book, which is located inside the Northern front door of the Club
House.
Members should also ensure that they and their visitors are suitably dressed at all times.
COUNT BACK PROCEDURE -
1. For 18 hole events the best score for the last 9 holes (i.e.) holes 10-18 shall be used; if there is
still a tie the last 6 holes or if still tied, the last 3 holes. If a tie persists then hole by hole from the
18th hole.
2. 1n 27, 36, 54 and 72 hole events, the last 18 holes shall be used and if still tied, count-back to be
used as in (1) above; except for Club Championships.
3. For a 9 hole event, the best score of the last 6 holes shall be used; if there is still a tie, the last 3
holes. If a tie still persists then hole by hole from the 9th hole.
4. In handicap events, the relevant handicap or fraction thereof shall be applied.
5. In par or stableford events, the above applies using the par or stableford score.
GENERAL CLUB RULES FOR MEMBERS
It is the player’s responsibility to check that their card is correct and signed before handing into the
Office. Handicaps must be on the card.
Lowest Marker in each group shall be the Group Captain and is responsible for speed of play,
observance of rules and etiquette.
On any Competition Day, Members must enter for the Competition and play with opponents as
directed by the Member on duty. Only in four ball and mixed events may players arrange partners.
Opponents will be allocated by the member on duty.
Members may play a Single Event only if the Member or the Committee are unable to obtain a
partner.
The honour at the 1st hole of play shall be the order of the draw, or, where there is no draw, by lot.
All competition play whether match play or medal play, shall be from the blue tee markers for men
and red tee markers for ladies.
All non-handicap golfers wishing to play in club events will be allocated a handicap at the discretion
of the match committee. The maximum handicap to be allocated under this situation will be 18 for
men and 27 for women.
MATCH PLAY - Singles and Four ball Matches - The Player with the lowest handicap will play off
scratch. The other player or players will reduce their handicaps accordingly so that handicap
differences between the players remain unchanged. If a match is square after 18 holes, play will
continue from the usual starting point - that is from the first hole on the course until a result is
obtained.
Match play events must be played ON the date set down. This rule may be waived in exceptional
circumstances and then only after application to the match committee. Finals MUST be played on
the date set down.
A time sheet will operate for all Knockout Matches and matches will be started from the 1st Tee only.
CLUB RULES FOR LADIES
Singles events, aggregate events and tournaments may be used for the following competitions but
4BBB EVENTS MAY NOT BE USED:
Eclectic (A and B Grade)
Gobbler Competition
Par 3 Competition
Birdie Competition
Ten Best Nett Scores (A Trophy for the player who records the Best Ten Nett Scores in Stroke
Rounds).
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
In the event of a tie at the completion of the scheduled rounds of the Men’s competition, a playoff
will be played over holes 16, 17 & 18 followed by sudden death playoff of the 18th hole if required
continuing until the Club Championship is won.
Ladies Club Championships will be decided by an 18 hole playoff followed by sudden death playoff of
the 18th whole if required, continuing until the Club Championship is won.
ASSEMBLY FOR SPECIAL EVENTS (SHOTGUN START) – Players are required to be at the course as
close as possible to the scheduled assembly time to ensure that play will be able to commence at the
scheduled hit-off time. Players who arrive late cause the whole field to wait for them. Anyone who
knows that they may be arriving late (i.e. after the scheduled assembly time BUT before the
Scheduled hit-off time), should telephone the Club House and advise the Match Committee as soon
as practicable.
TIME SHEET - When the time sheet is in operation, players must report to the Starter 10 minutes
prior to their scheduled start time and any player failing to report or not be on the tee at their start
time will lose their place and be started at the starter’s discretion.
Club Championship and Gold letter events draw to be organised by Club Captains.
WEDNESDAY - Starting time for golf is 10am. – 10.15am from March 17th to October 27th 2021
Telephone the starter by 10:05 am if running late. For the period 3rd November 2021 to Mid-March
2022, the starting times will be 9.00am – 9.15am with a second tee time of 10.00am – 10.15am if
required.
Ladies will have a 9 hole competition available all year.
THURSDAY – Starting time for golf is 12 noon for 12.30 shotgun start. Telephone before 12.20 if
you are running late.
SATURDAY and PUBLIC HOLIDAYS – Men’s and Ladies 12 noon for 12.30 shotgun start. Telephone
before 12.20 if you are running late.
SUNDAY – Men’s and Ladies 12 noon for 12.30 shotgun start. Telephone before 12.20 if you are
running late.
All times are subject to Government Covid 19 restrictions.
TOURNAMENTS AND SPECIAL DAYS
Assembly at 12.00 O’clock for 12.30pm Shot Gun Tee-off unless advertised otherwise
DUTY ROSTER - Members named for duty on competition days must be on duty 15 minutes prior
to hit off times and remain on duty as directed by the Match Committee.
The SECOND named lady on Wednesdays is to see that the kitchen is left tidy.
BAR DUTY - Members rostered for Bar Duty should play early so as to be back in the Club House in
time to do their duty. Any member unable to carry out their rostered duty should arrange a
substitute for that duty.
HEAT POLICY
The following policy has been adopted for the period from October 1st 2021 to March 31st 2022 –
Play could commence between 8.00 am to normal starting times.
Play is to commence from the 1st tee only.
Players to allow greens to be mown if work is in progress. i.e.:( wait till mowing is finished)
Play could be in 2s, 3s or 4s configuration.
Registration to be completed in the folder stored in the drawer outside the office, if the
office is unattended. Check date & type of competition.
Players MUST know their GA Handicap & use the Daily Look-up Chart posted on the office
window to convert to the correct handicap. Use a green fees card & on completion of your
round transfer scores to the official computer card for scanning of results. Sign both cards.
Payment of competition fees can be made at the completion of the round when office is
attended.
If office is unattended, then payment must be clearly labelled on brown envelopes and
deposited in the chute. Completed score cards to be left inside the Registration Folder.
On Special Event Days, it will be the Captain’s and Match Committees decision to make any
further alterations to the scheduled playing times, if they deem it necessary.
EARLY STARTING TIMES FOR GOLF THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.
On any competition day all players will be given the option of playing either A.M. or P.M.
competition golf. Play is to start between 8.00am and 9.00 am. Afternoon golf to start at
normal times.
Registration to be completed as above if the office is unattended.
Play is to commence from the 1st tee only.
Players to allow greens to be mown if work is in progress. ie:( wait till mowing is finished)
N.T.Ps. will be in the rainbird box near the greens and are to be put out by the 1st Players to
hit off.
A.M. players to arrange own Partner
Results of the day will be published in the Herald Sun the following day or, Friday’s edition of
the local paper.
LOCAL RULES
COHUNA GOLF CLUB Inc. – LOCAL RULES
1. If a ball comes to rest on a live ant’s nest, treat as GUR. Take Relief per Rule 16-2b
2. On the green a ball may be lifted and placed at the nearest point of relief to avoid putting on
or over bare or newly repaired patches and turf plugs. Rule 16-1d
3. Where trees identified by a stake and/or wire guard interfere with a player’s stance or the
area of his/her intended swing, the ball MUST be lifted without penalty and dropped in
accordance with the method prescribed in Rule 16-1.Tree guards and stakes are immovable
objects.
4. Wood chips on pathways are obstructions – Take Relief per Rule 16-1
5. “NEW WORK” may be treated as GUR. Take Relief per Rule 16-1.
a. Works associated with turf removal and subsequent repair with sand or earth fill
may be treated as NEW WORK.
6. Non-paved roads are an integral part of the Course, and as such “NO” relief is available.
7. Relief may be taken from wheel marks made by machinery or vehicles-per Rule16-1 (i)
CLOSELY MOWN AREAS ONLY.
8. If a ball lies through the green and an immovable obstruction e.g. fixed sprinkler head on or
within two (2) club-lengths of the putting green and within two (2) club-lengths of the ball
intervenes on the line of play between the ball and the hole the player may take relief per
Rule 16-1
9. Pine Posts and or Pencil Pine Trees indicate 150 metres to the centre of the green, White
painted posts marking the power line for the upgraded irrigation system, Cart this way signs
are all to be treated as immovable obstructions - relief as per rule 16-1
10. Kangaroo Damage on the Course:
a. Bunkers - A ball that lodges in an obvious kangaroo scrape, footprint or wallow may
be lifted and “DROPPED” without penalty, at the nearest point of relief not nearer
the hole, within the bunker.
b. Through the Green – Kangaroo scrapes and wallows may be treated in the same
manner as burrowing animals and relief taken without penalty in accordance with
Rule 16-1
c. On the Greens – Damage on greens from kangaroo paw marks/footprints – ball may
be moved to the nearest point of relief not nearer the hole in the same manner as
for Local Rule 2 relating to bare spots on the green.
11. Electric Boundary Fence – The top wire delineates the Out of Bounds Line. If a ball comes to
rest outside this wire, it will be Out of Bounds and the shot must be replayed and the
Prescribed Penalty taken per Rule 18-2
If a ball is in play but the Electric Fence interferes with the intended swing path, relief may be taken,
but the Penalty for an Unplayable Lie will apply per Rule 19-1
12. Bunkers: Balls embedded in face of bunkers, must be dropped and played from the nearest
point of relief no nearer the hole within the bunker.
13. Coiled and or Rolled Up Hoses are to be treated as Immovable Obstruction relief must be
taken per Rule 16-1
14. Weights holding Sprinklers Down. If your Ball strikes a weight on a sprinkler, the Ball must be
replayed.
15. Distance Measuring Devices: The use of a GPS device to measure the distance from a
player’s position to the hole or the target of a shot will be permitted and will not be in
contravention of the Rules of Golf.(Refer Rule 4-3)
16. CODE OF CONDUCT – Abuse of clubs or the course. Endangering fellow competitors.
Penalty structure. First breach of the Code of Conduct – warning from the match committee
or Captain. Second breach – two stroke penalty – applied by the match committee or
Captain. Third breach or any serious misconduct – disqualification by the match committee
or Captain.
