PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

As we move into the month of November, I can see that our staff and students have settled into their routines and are working hard in all of the curricular areas. Our staff have been exploring and incorporating the ideas involved in the “redesigned curriculum”. Our staff along with all other Burnaby school staffs will be focusing much time during Professional Development Days on the redesigned curriculum. The full implementation for this curriculum will be for next school year (2016-2017). We will continue to share information about this redesigned curriculum with you. You can access the curriculum changes at https://curriculum.gov.bc.ca/ if you are interested to have a look yourself. With the wet autumn weather descending upon us, I also wanted to remind everyone that our school has adopted the West Coast Recess in which our children will go outside for recess in the mornings even if it is raining. Please ensure that your child(ren) have appropriate clothing (i.e. rain coats, boots, umbrellas) in the event of these wet days. Students will continue to have inside days during the noon hour during these wet days. On Friday afternoon, students will have the opportunity to wear their Hallowe’en costumes at school for our assembly beginning at 1:15pm in our gymnasium. I am reminding everyone that we have students as young as 4 years old who will be attending the assembly. Gory, scary costumes should not to be worn nor replicas of weapons be brought to school. We welcome all parents and other family members to attend the assembly. As always, please feel free to email me ([email protected]) or call me at the school (604 664 8719) if you would like to have a conversation with me about any questions or concerns you may have. Inman Votes

On Monday, October 19, 2015, Inman students in grades four to seven gathered at the Inman library to vote. They, along with many other Canadian students from kindergarten to grade twelve, voted in an election that paralleled the Canadian Federal Election. Most Inman students agreed that this vote would be a stepping stone towards adulthood, and getting into the habit of voting.

Although the votes wouldn’t count, Inman’s election was extremely realistic. Four polling clerks from each intermediate class gave voters their ballots, directed them to booths, and even checked the validity of the ballots. The Deputy Returning Officer counted the ballots, but the results couldn’t be announced until the last polling station closed. At Inman, the Liberals came in first, followed by the NDP, then the Conservatives, the Green Party in fourth, and the Libertarian Party in last place. The Student Vote results at Inman were different than the results in the Burnaby South riding, where citizens re-elected the NDP candidate, Kennedy Stewart. Tania Pocrnjic
