A Fabulous ÉJWES 2014-2015 School Year
Comes to a Close
I would like to take this time to send a huge thank you to all parents, community members, students and staff for a
fantastic year that has been filled with so many wonderful moments made possible because of your commitment
to the children of Innisfail. I continue to be greatly impressed with the quality of teaching and learning, the level
of art and music programming, the many school-wide events/field trips that enhance student programming at
ÉJWES. I am also so impressed by the amount of volunteer hours that are present at École John Wilson Elemen-
tary School. Each of these things takes a great deal of time and commitment by many adults who gladly give their
best to our students each and every day. The children at our school are truly blessed because of all that you do,
and I have been blessed as a principal to be part of such a great school community focused on the best for chil-
dren's learning and growth.
It does take a village to raise a child and the Innisfail community is a shining example of how to come together
for the health, happiness and education of our children.
Have a safe, fun-filled summer.
Respectfully,
Jason Drent - Principal

Reflections on a year of meaningful learning
A Message from the Superintendent
With the end of this school year approaching, we can look back with pride on a highly successful
year of learning and growing in Chinook’s Edge!
Thank you to our students, our teachers, and our entire Chinook’s Edge staff for your hard work
throughout the year. Our students have earned praise and appreciation from many groups for
their efforts, as they take leading roles in artistic, academic, athletic, humanitarian and
environmental projects. We continue to see positive improvements on both locally-administered
and provincially-administered assessments of student learning. We are particularly proud that,
for the second year in a row, we are seeing 81 percent of our students completing high school –
which remains substantially higher than the provincial average of 75-77 percent. From the
moment they enter Kindergarten to the time they graduate from high school, Chinook’s Edge
students are surrounded by people who care about them and about their success. From this strong
foundation, they are in a greater position to continue achieving throughout their lives.
Along with our trustees, parents, families and community partners, we have shared an
outstanding year together. Thank you for challenging, encouraging and believing in each of our
students, and in one another. Enjoy your summer!

Many Thanks from our Staff and Students to
École John Wilson Elementary Parent Council and Families
Thank you for all of your help to fundraise in this school year through our Fall fundraiser,
Read-a-thon and hot lunches. Parent Council, and numerous volunteers, have spent endless
hours to fundraise funds that have allowed them to allocate approximately $3500.00 to each
grade level to use in significantly off-setting the costs of field trips and class activities. As
well, these fundraising efforts allowed Parent Council to bring to our students performances
such as the Alberta Opera performance. These efforts make it possible to provide all students
with fantastic learning opportunities at the school, within the community, and on excursions
that greatly expand our students’ learning opportunities.
THANK YOU!
