Principal: Mr. W. Kirschner Vice Principals: Mrs. M. Mattes, Mr. P. Persad PAC Chair: Mrs. Julie Reimer Website: http://skss.sd73.bc.ca NEWSLETTER: April 2019 Principal’s Message… As we return from a relaxing spring break and the positive signs of warmer weather, I am reminded by this weeks paper work and 2019/20 planning that we are indeed moving quickly through semester 2: term 3 ends on April 12 and report cards will be issued on April 26th. Mr. Persad and Ms. Mattes are well into scheduling our SKSS timetable for next year that is working towards a projected enrollment of 895 students, we are currently at 885. I am happy with our projected numbers as this will provide staffing stability on our campus and the necessary support to sustain the diversity of courses at SKSS as well as our extra-curricular programs that we offer from September through to June. We are at that time of the year on our campus and in our classrooms where we really begin to see, as a school, all of the hard work and subsequent evidence of learning that is clearly showing a consistency of higher ordering thinking, tasks and questioning. Whether it be individual presentations of learning or displays of creativity, I am always amazed with the dedication and commitment from our students and staff that exemplifies all of the "Attributes of a Titan" that we proudly display in the hallways of our school. I truly believe these attributes, and our collective vision, will continue to provide the most optimal learning environment for all of our Titans to succeed both within our classrooms and in our greater community :) Spring athletics are well under way after a very successful winter season in which our Sr. Girls basketball team won the B.C. Provincial Championship for the second year in a row!!! We will be having a pep rally next week on April 10th to recognize our teams and to have a special banner raising ceremony for our Sr. Girls Basketball team. Well done by all of the athletes, coaches and parents involved....a very special moment for SKSS athletics. We will be having our SKSS parent meeting for athletics on Tuesday, April 9th at 6pm in the library. This meeting is for all parents of spring athletes who have not attended this meeting to date. Topics will include: our school athletic programs, school policies, district policies and time made available for questions to both myself and to our athletic director, Mr. Yamaoka. Spring programs being offered this year are: girls rugby, boys rugby, girls soccer, golf, tennis, track and field, ultimate frisbee and badminton. Thanks to all of our coaches and sponsors who give their time and expertise to allow for these opportunities on our campus. My monthly "Titans" call out goes to South Kam student, Rio Shatzko who recently was awarded a gold medal at Apex mountain for downhill skiing and subsequently was recognized as the U19 BC Alpine Overall Champion !!! We are all very proud of Rio for his dedication and commitment to the sport of skiing :) A friendly reminder to our parents that our next PAC meeting is April 18th at 7:00pm in our library. Please call me if you have any questions about our SKSS PAC. It is a great group to work and collaborate with and remember.......there is no fundraising at the high school level :):):) I look forward to seeing you on April 18th. Sincerely, Mr. W. SKSS ART NIGHT

    SD73 BUDGET PRESENTATION

    GRAD

    Friday, June 14th, 2019 Commencements

Rehearsal 11:45 AM Grad Banquet 5:15 PM Commencement Ceremony 7:00 PM The Grad Newsletter is posted on the school website. Visit the school website at www.skss.sd73.bc.ca and click on Path To Graduation. If you are a Grad who isn’t registered in regular classes at the school (i.e. attending ACEIT programs) please contact the school with your e-mail address so we can forward information to you. Mrs. Mattes (Vice Principal) is the school contact for Grad although the Dry Grad Parent Committee is responsible for Dry Grad and the Prom. GRAD DINNER & COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY: Both the Grad Dinner and Commencement Ceremony will be held on Friday, June 14th at the McArthur Island Sports Centre. • A rehearsal will be held at 11:45 am on Friday, June 14th. Students will be bused from SKSS to McArthur Island at 11:30 am. All students are required to ride the bus to the rehearsal.

    • The Grad Dinner will begin at 5:15pm in the Curling Arena. This function is for Grads and SKSS faculty only. • The Commencement Ceremony will follow dinner in the Ice Arena area at 7:00 pm. • Tickets are required for family and friends to attend the Commencement Ceremony. Each Grad will receive 10 tickets ( available in late May).

At the Commencement Ceremony we show a slideshow as the grads cross the stage. This slideshow is a picture of the graduating student in their grad gown along side a baby picture. We will have a copy of their grad gown picture but we need your help in collecting baby pictures of the students. With close to 200 graduates, this is a large undertaking. In order to streamline the process and help us make it as efficient as possible, we are asking the following: Our best case scenario would see each of you email a high quality scanned image of your child between the ages of 0 to Pre-School as a JPG.

    i. The image should be at minimum 500px by 500px (LARGER IS BETTER)

ii. The image should be saved as a JPEG or a PNG iii. The image file name should use the following format:

lastname_firstname.jpg (ex. mattes_michelle.jpg) iv. The image should be sent to: [email protected]

    OR

If you are unable to scan the image or have it scanned, we will do it for you. Have your Grad bring the image to the school office and we will scan the image immediately and return the image. In the event that we do need to hold onto the image, please ensure that your child's name is written on the back so that we can have it returned promptly.

Baby photos - only 15% of the Grad Class has submitted a baby photo for the Commencement slideshow. Don't be left out....please submit your Grad's baby photo to the office by April 30th. Visit the Graduation News folder on the SKSS website for more details. A reminder to grads to pay your school fees by April 15.
