PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Parents and Students,
Welcome back after a restorative week off for Thanksgiving. Our students, teachers, parents and even the principal have been re-energized and are ready to take on the next few exciting, yet busy weeks heading into the winter break. If athletics is your thing, our boys and girls track team members will compete in the County Finals at Jefferson HS on Wednesday, December 7th at 5 pm. How about music? Our Band will perform their Winter Concert on Tuesday, December 6th at 6:30 pm over at Robinson HS and our Orchestra will be performing their Winter Concert on Thursday, December 8th in the Coleman Gym at 6 pm. Take advantage of these opportunities to show your Cobra Spirit and support our students.
Exam Week is December 12th - 16th. Go to the Coleman Webpage or to Edsby to see the schedule.
Yours in Education,
Mike Hoskinson

COUNSELOR'S CORNER
It is hard to believe Winter Break is almost here and the school year is half over. We know that students have exams coming up and their anxiety levels may increase. Here are some helpful tips for reducing test anxiety:
1. Healthy Diet2. Getting Regular exercise3. Students need at least 8 hours of sleep4. Teach "self talk". "If I mess up, it's not the end of the world. I'll give it my best shot."5. Discourage student's from comparing themselves with others and encourage them to do their best.6. Teach Relaxation Skills - During test if feeling anxious, "Put down the pencil, close your eyes, take two or three deep breaths, and then continue. Keep a stress ball on desk during test-taking.7. Students should space out their studying. Do a little every night to avoid "cramming". 8. Look over the entire test before starting. Start with the easiest questions first.9. Get up earlier on test days and eat a good breakfast. Being rushed in the morning can create more stress.10. Unconditional love and comfort is important. Hug your child before they leave and tell them "I love you first; your school performance is secondary."
A reminder for 7th graders identified to participate in the 7th Grade Duke Talent Search that the online deadline to register is December 9th. A parent information meeting was held back in September and if you were unable to attend, a packet of information was mailed home to those eligible 7th graders.

Please know that even if you participated in elementary school you must register again in 7th grade to be able to sit for the SAT or ACT. Ms. Wicker is the contact person for this progam if you need assistance.
The 8th grade students zoned for Plant High School received their course selection sheets this week. Please ask your child to share this information. The students need to bring them back signed and returned to Mrs. Morter by Friday, December 2nd. She will accept them beyond that date but she has to return them to Plant before we leave for winter break. Mrs. Morter is the contact person for 8th grade should you have any questions.
Mrs. Morter and Ms. Wicker wish all of our Coleman families a happy, safe and restful winter break.
