MANAGERS CORNERTHANK YOU, THANK YOU THANK YOU from all of us here at Lincoln Military Housing for all those wonderful sweets everyone brought in over the holidays!

Are you planning a party? Our residents can reserve space for events, games or sports free at the Community Center along with chairs and tables to use for your events, see Caroline or Melody for details. During the winter months, we allow the kids to wait for the bus inside the Community Center rather than the exterior bus stop located by the old PX. Unfortunately, many children are coming in unattended. They wrestle, leave their backpacks in front of doors as trip hazards, throw rocks and do damage to the fitness equipment. If children are under 12 they need to be accompanied by an adult to the Community Center. Thank you in advance of your cooperation.

VEHICLESResidents must use their garages and driveways to park vehicles. Trailers, RV’s, recreational vehicles, non registered or non-operating vehicles need to be parked in the MCCS storage lot. For more information call MCX at 530-495-1057.

E-waste, if not disposed of properly, can be hazardous to the environment. Because of the potential environmental hazards lurking inside your old electronics, the state of California has banned electronics from being placed in landfills. That means that recycling is of the utmost importance, not only for environmental concerns, but also because of California law.

E-waste is simply any old electronic device that you no longer wish to keep. Proper disposal of e-waste is easy. First, you should determine if the product is still in working condition. If products are still in working order or need only minor repairs, they should be donated to a school, library, charity or church. You can also find a new home for these items by using web sites such as Freecycle.org or Craigslist.com. If the e-waste is broken and needs to be disposed of, your waste management company offers several disposal options for residents in Lincoln Military Housing properties.

MARCH - E-waste Recycling Made Easy

• Make sure your printer paper is 100% post consumer recycled paper. Save five pounds of carbon dioxide per ream of paper.

• 17 million catalogs are mailed every year. This causes 62 million trees and 25 billion gallons of water to be used to produce a typical year’s worth of junk mail. That’s over 80 pounds per household, or close to a tree’s worth.

• Ask to “please remove my name from the mailing list” to cut-down on junk mail.

• Save paper, postage, and gas by paying your bills online.

• Save paper by requesting to get your statements online rather than through the mail.

• Please visit www.greendimes.com to find out how you can completely get rid of your junk mail! There are two service plans. With the Premium service ($20 a year), GreenDimes does all the dirty work; staying on top of the catalog and junk mail companies, with the various marketing associations, and ensuring that you stay off their lists. The Basic service (completely FREE) helps you help yourself - giving you all the tools you need to remove your name from all of the lists. In addition, with the Premium service, GreenDimes will plant 5 trees on your behalf.

• A carbon footprint is a measure of the impact our activities have on the environment and climate change. It relates to the amount of greenhouse gases produced in our day-to-day lives through burning fossil fuels for electricity, heating and transportation, etc. The carbon footprint is a measurement of all greenhouse gases we individually produce and has units of tonnes (or kg) of carbon dioxide equivalent. To learn how to measure your carbon footprint and how to off-set it, please go to www.carbonfootprint.com.

FEBRUARY - Opt Out: Find small ways to reduce your impact on the environment
