Further Education & TrainingAwards Council (QQI)QQI validates and certifies Further EducationProgrammes. It sets and maintains standards inFurther Education Courses. All PLC courses inColáiste Mhuire Co-Ed are certified by QQI atLevel 5 or 6. QQI awards guarantee learners moreoptions, greater flexibility, high standards ofquality, increased access and a ladder ofprogression into further Third Level Studies.Currently there are over 2,000 University &Institutes of Technology places reserved forholders of QQI Level 5 Awards.
Entry Requirements• Leaving Certificate with passes in at least five
subjects
• Leaving Certificate Applied with a minimum of120 credits
• QQI Certification at Level 4
• Applicants over 21 years who may have notcompleted the Senior Cycle, but are deemed tohave the necessary competence and capacityto undertake the programme may also apply.Applicants with special needs are catered for,however, they must inform the college onapplication. We are committed to promotingequality of opportunity for all students.
General InformationThere are no formal tuition fees for Irish and EUNationals who are full time students on ourcourses. Courses are funded by the EuropeanSocial Fund.

Coláiste Mhuire Co-Ed is a foundation stone in the education of the wider Thurlescommunity. Situated on a modern campus, with state-of-the art facilities and a custombuilt sports arena, we have a proud tradition of providing educational courses toprogressively minded students.

Work ExperienceCourses are designed to meet currentemployment market needs by providing joborientated training and education. Coláiste MhuireCo-Ed has built extensive links with manybusinesses in the locality and further afieldthrough their work experience programme.Students complete a block release period of workexperience during the year with many studentsfinding employment locally as a result of theirwork experience.
Higher Education Link SchemeProgression to Universities and other Collegesfrom QQI programmes delivered here at ColáisteMhuire Co-Ed is possible through the HigherEducation Links Scheme (HELS). This Schemeprovides access to Level 5 and some Level 6Advanced Certificates to a number of reservedplaces on higher education programmes throughthe CAO (Central Applications Office). WIT providesa number of reserved places for all QQI Programmesin Coláiste Mhuire Co-Ed -conditions apply.Learners successfully completing QQI/FETACCertificate Level 5 with CMCO will be offeredentry to WIT programmes based on thiscollaboration agreement. Learners who achieve amajor award at level 5, and apply through CAO fora programme of study at WIT, are guaranteedaccess to any Level 6 or Level 7 programme.Learners who complete Advanced CertificationLevel 6 with CMCO may apply for advanced entrystraight into second year for linked programmes.This is a Pilot scheme and will be reviewedannually. The skills acquired while pursuing ourcourses provide an excellent foundation for thirdlevel independent learning, research, multimediapresentations, communications and I.T Skills etc.All of these are invaluable for any prospectiveThird Level student.
