FITNESS FARM

Abstract: Fitness Farm is an event designed to harness the latent work potential of excercise. Club Fitness reports that 45.5 million people had gym club memberships, generating over $19.1 billion in business. Fitness Farm is a program to make it easy to match up those who want to work for free and those who need work. The concept is simple, a van will meet at a predecided loca-tion, pick up members and drop them off at a farm. Like a fitness gym, users will have the option to work in various ways designed to maximize physical activity and help farms with menial tasks.

Will Need:

A list of possible farms interest from the fitness community

• Make flyers and commit to driving a van once a month

• Focus on RISD students as initial audience

• Seek funding opportunities, market it as an art project

• Start a simple blog to help expand the network.

• Talk to local gym members, see if an instructor is interested, or better yet, a gym that is willing to endorse Fitness Farm

• Are participants willing to pay a small fee for this experience?

• Is there a potential barter system that works?

• Is there a strategy for outreaching to undocumented workers in a non-monetary economy?

• This project could expand into extensive social network that rethinks common ideas about labor and fair wages.

• As interst grows projects could become more ambitious and explore different areas of work.
