Pope Francis’ Apostolic Exhortation on Love in the Family

“The joy of love experienced by families is also the joy of the Church”.

In 2014 and 2015 Pope Francis convoked two synods on the family. Over the course

of the two-year synod process he listened intently to the many contributions,

concerns and questions of the Synod Fathers gathered in Rome from all over the

world. The process allowed for an in-depth examination of the situation of families

in today’s world, leading Pope Francis to acknowledge the complexity of the issues

that arose. The Synod Fathers noted that despite the many signs of crisis in the

institution of marriage, “the desire to marry and form a family remains vibrant,

especially among young people, and this is an inspiration to the Church”.

Pope Francis’ response was to gather the contributions of the synods into an

Apostolic Exhortation entitled Amoris Laetitia: The Joy of Love, published in 2016.

He offers the Exhortation to families as a source of help and encouragement in their

daily commitments and challenges, inviting them to value the gifts of marriage and

the family and to persevere in a love strengthened by the virtues of generosity,

commitment, fidelity and patience.

Over the course of the next number of months, you will be able to read some

extracts from the Exhortation in the Parish newsletter. It is good to stay in touch

with the writings of Pope Francis. He is a wise pastor, anxious to guide and nurture

his flock. The full text of the Exhortation is available on the Vatican website; search

for Amoris Laetitia or purchase from Veritas, costing €5.

Turning of the Sod

A ground-breaking ceremony! The first sod was

turned last Monday, 8th May after the 10.00 am

Mass with a short blessing ceremony.

After so many years of planning, discussing and fund-raising, the vision of our long-awaited and much needed Parish Pastoral Centre is actually becoming a reality. It is being built at the rear of the Parochial House beside the Church and should be completed in November this year. It is an historic moment in the life of our parish. With the blessing of God, we look forward to our new Parish Pastoral Centre!
