A WORD FROM PRINCIPAL'S DESK

The field of higher education is undergoing fast changes as the new technology revolutionized all walks of life. I am glad to assert that the Govt. of Karnataka has started this college in the year 2006 with a view to offer higher education of global standard for the welfare of all needy students of this region. Our college has taken all the measures to upgrade our standard of education by introducing innovative methods of teaching. The IQAC has been instrumental in bringing a qualitative change through best practices it has set. The present prospectus presents whole information about the college and its activities in brief. I congratulate Prof Anup Theopelis and his team for designing a beautiful prospectus for the year 2020-21. I hope the students and stakeholders get better use of this prospectus.

BACHELOR OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION ( BBA )

ADMINISTRATIVE INSTRUCTIONS

1 The process of Admission, Examination, Bus pass, Change of College, Cancellation of admissions, Scholarships will be undertaken according to the college and university calender.

2. Issue of examination hall tickets, marks cards and issue/ return of Library books are carried out according to the college schedule.

3 Every academic activity is monitored by the class mentors.4. Every program of the college is monitored by concerned Co-ordinators of various committees. 5. Student should not remain absent from their classes in order to attend to office work.6. For any queries/clarifications, students are advised to consult the office staff on shift basis

(Shift I – 12:30 to 1:30 and shift II – 4:30 to 5:30). Students are advised to meet the Principal only if its necessary.

7. For any academic and non academic grievances student are advised to meet the concerned CR's/Mentors or Student Welfare Officer (SWO).

8. For any suggestions or grievances, students are advised to use the suggestion box kept in the college premises.

9. Students must get attestation of Xerox copies, from respective class Mentors only.10. Students must see that their Transfer Certificate (TC) should reach to the college office before

conduct of the First Internal Test.11. students who are eligible and are willing to avail the fees concession, must apply for the same

at the time of admission and submit the scholarship/fee concession application through online to claim the same from concerned departments (e.g. Social Welfare, BCM, and other departments) and the copies of the same have to be submitted to the college office for claiming the concession.

12. The students are advised to apply for various Scholarships and Rajiv Gandhi Loan scholarship facility of the Government for pursuing their Higher Education.

13. Every student has to give the feedback of every Teacher of concerned subject/s and office staff as and when required.

14. Students are advised to go through the college website www.gfgc.kar.nic.in/dharwad regularly for updated routine notices and circulars.

15. Parent must attend the meeting organized by Teacher-Parents Association.

DISCIPLINARY INSTRUCTIONS

1. Students should adhere to Dress Code and Identity Card. 2. Chewing of Pan, Supari, Gutka, Tobacco, and the use of Mobile Phones are strictly banned in

the College campus. 3. Maintenance of discipline, Cleanliness and Decorum in the College campus is the responsibility

of every Student.4. Ragging, Sexual Harassment and Group/mob fighting is strictly prohibited and punished. 5. College premises is under CCTV surveillance. 6. Appropriate disciplinary action will be taken against students who misbehave or create

mischief in the College premises.7. Any Loss or damage of the property of the College made by the student/s will be recovered.8. Students who entertain outsiders or any unwanted elements in the College campus will be

called for disciplinary action immediately.9. Students are supposed to maintain minimum 75% attendance. 10. College is not responsible for any belongings/loss of valuables of students.11. All Class Representatives should attend monthly meetings. 12. Every student must participate in Students Assembly Programme.

ACADEMIC INSTRUCTIONS1. CBCS system is introduced from the academic year 2020-21.2. Attendance in the class is compulsory. Every student must have a minimum of 75% of

attendance to appear for the Semester Examination. 3. Students have to appear for two Internal Tests in each semester & submission of assignment is

compulsory in every semester. th th

4. Internal test will be conducted during the 8 week and the 12 week of each semester. 5. Participating in Seminars/ workshops and Group Discussion is compulsory. 6. The Qualifying aggregate marks for passing is 40 in each subject. 7. Each student has to score a minimum of 32 marks out of 80 in theory examination in each

subject. Otherwise the student gets failed in the particular subject.8. Industrial & Field Visits are compulsory for students.

IQAC and NAAC STEERING COMMITTTEEThe IQAC is an important committee that takes measures to improve quality and ensure excellence in

college. It acts as a facilitator to organize various programmes to encourage better teaching and learning activities.

Presently IQAC is funded by Department of Collegiate Education. It mandated the colleges to conduct programme

of academic excellence. Government First Grade College Dharwad was established 2006 with an objective to

monitor and take measures for improving the quality of teaching and learning. It has organizing workshops, special

talks and short term courses and intercollegiate competitions to create an excellent academic ambience. Under the

chairmanship of the Principal, the committee looks into the Teacher quality, internal and external assessment and

research and development in the College. IQAC has an effective system for planned curriculum delivery and

documentation. It is following the syllabus framed by Karnatak University Dharwad. The college teachers also

contribute to the curriculum as a member of Board of Studies or as members of subject forums. The academic

calendar is prepared at the beginning of the academic year. A proper lesson plan is prepared and work distribution

is done. Planning of Curriculum implementation is guided by IQAC. Dr Gurunath K Badiger, Associate Professor of

English is the coordinator and Dr Uma Pujar Asst. Professor of Commerce is the Co-coordinator of IQAC-NAAC

Committee of the college.

ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES1. Special Lecture series will be conducted in every subject.

2. Special Coaching/ Remedial Classes are conducted for slow learners.

3. Workshops on job skills and communication skills are conducted.

4. Seminars / Workshops / Conferences will be held regularly.

5. Group Discussions will be conducted for students.

6. Project work will be assigned for students for partial fulfillment of the requirement of University.

7. Industrial & Field Visits are carried out for students.

8. Assignments need to be submitted every semester and practical journals are to be written regularly.

9. Two Internal Tests will be conducted every semester.

10. Research activities will be encouraged for students.

11. NET/SLET Coaching is conducted for PG Students and PGCET coaching for UG students.

EXTENSION ACTIVITIESCo-curricular activities are an integral part of College. Every Department organizes various competitions,

workshops, seminars and group discussions so that the students can have overall personality development. In

order to inculcate the feeling of patriotism, self discipline and sense of nation building and community services,

students are free to enroll themselves in NSS, NCC, Scouts & Guides and Youth Red Cross Service.

A. Participation of students either in NCC/ NSS/ Scouts/ Guides/ Youth Red Cross/ Sports/ Cultural activities of

the College is mandatory.

B. Attending the College programmes, Weekly Assembly, Career Guidance and Placement programme,

various Skill development Programmes, Orientation Programme, Students counseling, Photo sessions are

compulsory.

NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS)

The College has two units of NSS with a capacity of 100 volunteers each. Both boy and girl students are

enrolled every year. The volunteers should involve themselves wholeheartedly with the motto “NOT ME,

BUT YOU”. They must participate in various activities like Literacy Awareness, Conducting Health Camps,

Preservation of Monuments, Promoting Communal Harmony, Plantation of Saplings and many other

innovative programmes. An annual camp is held once in a year and the volunteers are asked to attend the

Camp. Unit I of NSS is headed by Shri B S Patil, Department of Physics and Unit II by Dr Basavaraj Tallur,

Department of English

SPORTS FACILITY & ACTIVITIES

The Department of Sports of the College has been actively promoting Sports events by instilling the

Spirit of Sportsmanship. Special coaching is given to students in the field of their interest. The department

organizes annual sports meet. The college also deputes students for inter-collegiate competitions. Gym

facility is available for students. Dr K S Patil, department of History is co-ordinator of sports activities

NATIONAL CADET CORPS (NCC)

The College has a Senior Wing NCC unit 4/5(A) of Army wing attached to 5 Karnataka Girls Battalion NCC

Dharwad. 52 Physically fit, mentally tough and having good physical bearing girl students are enrolled in

NCC every year. NCC, a second in line of Indian Armed forces, aims at creating a sense of Discipline and

Unity among the youths of the Nation providing them training to be as a reserve force during the difficult

times of the Nation. Lt. Vidya Raikar, Asst. Prof. of Mathematics heads the NCC unit.

ROVERS AND RANGERS

The College has a Scouts Unit with a strength of 24 boy students and a Guides Unit with a strength of 24

Girl students. The motto of these units is to make students as good leaders, role models, good Guides and

worthy citizens of our Country. It aims at creating a healthy society by instilling a sense of discipline and

Social values among the youths. The Scouts Unit is led by Rovers Scouts Leader, Dr. Raveendra Kumar H

Naik, Department of Economics and Rangers Unit is led by Smt. Kavita H Kulkarni, Dept of Sociology.

YOUTH RED CROSS UNIT

The Indian Red Cross is a voluntary humanitarian organization. The Mission of the Indian Red Cross

is to inspire, encourage and initiate at all times all form of humanitarian activities. It is providing relief in

times of disasters/emergencies and promotes health & care of the vulnerable people and communities. It

promotes mutual understanding, friendship, cooperation and lasting peace amongst all people.

Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity and Universality are the 7

fundamental principles which helps to achieve the mission of Red Cross Organization. This unit is led by

Dr. Arun kumar Kallolikar, Asst. Professor, Department of History.

CULTURAL ACTIVITIES

Culture and traditions are the integral part of every society. The Cultural Department of the College

aims at identifying and bringing out the hidden talents of the students. The cultural activities are spread

out throughout the year as per the calendar of events. Various competitions in dance, singing, theatre

events, folk dance, clay modeling, rangoli, drawing and painting etc, are conducted. Festivals are

celebrated, workshops, and fun weeks are organized in order to showcase their talent. The qualified

students in the college level competitions will be further trained and encouraged to participate at the

Youth Festivals of the University and other Zonal, District and State level competitions. The committee

also organizes festivals like, Janapada and Mojina Habba, exhibiting the talent of folklore. The committee

also organizes national festivals and jayantis of Educationalists, National Leaders and Saints. This

committee is led by Dr. Vijayakumari Chilakwad, Asst. Prof. Department of Mathematics.

Students Assembly is very important platform for every student to exhibit their skill, talent, knowledge,

experience and leadership qualities. This Assembly will be conducted every week in their respective

classrooms. The objectives of the assembly are:

· To provide opportunities to students to exhibit their talents and enhance the creativity.

· To inculcate unity, discipline, patriotism and create an ambience of harmony and National

Integration.

· To encourage and motivate students who are deprived of opportunities and help to enable

them to participate in various competitive activities.

· To impart innovative ideas, information and to be abreast of the various activities

organized in the College.

To provide a healthy platform for students to develop leadership qualities by overcoming stage fear and to

help them to stimulate their self confidence.

STUDENTS ASSEMBLY PROGRAM

STUDENTS' WELFARE & COUNSELING

A Counseling Cell has been set up in the College to find solutions to students who undergo various

psychological related problems like stress, depression and Career related issues. This Cell is managed

by Teachers who have been trained at NIMHANS, Bangalore.

CAREER GUIDANCE AND PLACEMENT

In order to make the students self-reliant and economically independent, Job fairs and Campus

recruitment are being arranged in the College. In addition to this, coaching for UPSC, KPSC, SSC, Banking

and other competitive examinations will be conducted to the final year students of the College. A

separate Career Guidance and Placement Cell is set up in the college so as to enable and guide the

students to choose the best career and help them in getting good jobs. The Cell helps in giving information

about various Competitive Examinations conducted by State and Central agencies. The Cell establishes

contact with major employers and conduct Job Fairs for the benefit of the students. Shri. Shamsuddin. M

Nadaf, Department of Commerce is the Placement Officer for UG and Dr Uma Pujar is the Placement

Officer for PG section.

ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

The Alumni Association of Govt. First Grade College, for the sake of brevity, is called as “SNEHA SMRITI”.

The registered office of the association shall be in the premises of the College. It was registered on 12th

March 2015 under Karnataka Societies Registration act 17 of 1960. It serves as serving forum to promote

and foster the relationship between the Association and past and present students, staff and various

departments of College. The basic objectives are exchange of ideas, which. besides being mutually

beneficial, will generally help to serve the Alma mater in achieving excellence in Higher Education, and

contribute to improve the quality of life of general public. It is actively and constructively participating in

well being of students by utilizing the goodwill, rich experience of the fraternity of professionals spread all

over the country and abroad. Alumni Association will organize various training programs and activities.

Dr. Sangeeta Kattimani, Department of Political Science, is the Co-ordinator of Alumni Association

“VIDYASIRI” ANNUAL MAGAZINE

To place on records the events of the year and to bring out the hidden talents of the students, the

college publishes 'Vidyasiri', the College Magazine annually. The main purpose of this magazine is to

engage, inspire and entertain a diverse readership. Short story, essay, cartoon, drawing, poems written by

students and staff will be published in the magazine. It is edited by Dr. S. V. Managundi Ass. Prof. Dept. of

Kannada.

Library is an integral part of College. It supports for learning, teaching, and research activities of students, faculty and

research scholars. It has 20,414 books which include Arts, Science, Commerce & Management streams of the College.

Library also has very good number of Reference books & Encyclopedia Britannica, Sage Series Modern History Books,

CD's, books on various competitive examinations, Maps, Globes, Departmental Compendiums, Reports, Donated books.

In addition to all these, Library is equipped with number of periodicals, research journals of all available courses of the

College, General magazines & newspapers. UGC Inflibnet's N-LIST also subscribed every year to support research

activities. Special Book Bank facility is given to SC/ST students, Meritorious students, physically challenged, Poor and

needy students. In general, library extends its facilities to all the students who have taken admission in this College.

Library conducts Orientation program for newly admitted students every year to make students aware of

importance of the use of Library facility. It Organizes Special Lectures for students of every semester to make them know

more about the Library and Career prospects. Best Reader award program, is being organized every year for BA, B.Com,

BBA & B.Sc students to motivate them for Higher Education, and to develop reading habits. Library also displays Career

guidance, Coaching, training Programs, Higher Education watch, Scholarship facilities, Personality development, health,

Job placement related articles and many other information.

“Librarians Day and Dr. S R Ranganathan Memorial Best Reader Award” program is being conducted every year in the

month of August on the occasion of the father of Library Movement in India, Padmashri. Dr. S R Ranganathan's birthday

celebration. The library opens every day at 10.30 am and closes at 5.30 pm from Monday to Friday and on Saturday's it

remains open from 10.30 am to 2.30 pm. Issue of books for the students will be done according to the schedule. Library is

fully automated.
