Why study economics?
Career Opportunities
Economics is an analytical social science that intersects with finance, business, politics, healthcare, mathematics, and related disciplines to explain how markets and societies function. Economists research, analyze and devise solutions for problems related to the supply and demand of goods and services or to the growth and development of societies, from local to global.
An economics degree is one of the most versatile degrees available. A Bachelor of Arts (BA) major provides foundational social science training and practical introduction to a range of topics from international economics; money and banking, to sustainable economic development. Majors are prepared for entry level employment in the private sector or with public agencies or to attend Law School or begin an MBA degree.
CareersCareers in economics are varied. Majors have been employed by banks, credit unions, manufacturing companies, and professional sports teams. Others are high school teachers, healthcare staff support, labor market forecasters, military procurement employees, computer programmers, accountants, and civil servants. Others have gone on to graduate school to earn MBAs, Masters of Science or Arts degrees, PhDs, or law degrees.
