When you become a student at the Ashland University Richard E. and Sandra J. Dauch College of Business and Economics (COBE), you become a participating member of the global world of business while enjoying the close connections that come with attending a mid-sized University that emphasizes relationship building and small class size.

At COBE, our primary mission is to help our students grow into financially savvy and entrepreneurial business professionals who exhibit excellent communication skills, strong critical thinking abilities and high ethical standards. To that end, we’ll give you the opportunity to explore the many facets of business in order to determine which path is right for you. We’ll provide you with a broad, competency-based education that will not only prepare you for your chosen field, but also

I am connected. I am well-rounded. I am a critical thinker. I am responsible. I am a leader. I am a professional.

provide you with the creative problem-solving skills so prized in today’s rapidly changing workplace. And we’ll help you put the principles you learn into practice with real-world experience that includes summer internships, hands-on projects, seminars and national competitions, and opportunities to learn from esteemed business professionals at major seminars and corporate networking events.

Whatever business path you choose, when you have completed your education at the Dauch College of Business and Economics, you’ll have all the tools and knowledge you’ll need to work effectively in your field of choice from day one, as well as strong connections you’ll maintain for the rest of your life.

I am a critical thinker. We’ll help you find the path that’s right for you. The world of business is rich, complex and varied. Knowing that you want to be part of this exciting global network is a great first step, but determining your specific field of expertise can be complex. At Ashland’s College of Business and Economics (COBE), we partner with our career development center to provide you with individual assessment techniques that can help you identify your unique talents and abilities. We provide you with the opportunity to hear what different careers are really like from business people invited to speak in your classes. And we require that you complete an internship that will allow you to work in your chosen field to ensure it’s the right one for you. In essence, we give you the big picture up front, and then provide you with the guidance necessary to narrow your focus as you learn. That way, when you declare your major, you’ll be able to do so with confidence.

I am well-rounded.You’ll learn everything about business, and a whole lot more. Nearly every day at COBE, we get written feedback about our student interns that say something like this: “Her research skills, phone skills and business knowledge are exceptional.” That’s because in addition to teaching you everything you need to know about business, we also provide you with the critical thinking, relationship, oral and written communications and creative problem-solving skills that are in high demand in today’s competitive market. Because all businesses prefer to hire well-rounded people, we require that you complete both our business core courses and our institutional core courses, which are designed to give you a much broader knowledge base (see the sidebar on this page). You’ll learn how to think on your feet and find unique solutions to unexpected problems. And you’ll learn how to balance the demands of business with social responsibility and your personal values – traits every business admires and needs, now more than ever.

I am responsible. Here, where you learn is almost as amazing as what you learn. All you have to do is step into our 60,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art Richard E. and Sandra J. Dauch College of Business and Economics building to know you’ve entered someplace special. Opened in January 2004, the building houses the latest in instructional technology, a product development lab, an executive education center and the Burton D. Morgan Center for Entrepreneurial Studies where students are encouraged to learn about starting their own businesses with the help of professionals. Perhaps the most unique feature of the building is our Trading Room where, amid Wall Street-style workstations and wall-mounted displays, students in the Eagle Investment Group perform real-world fund and behavioral analysis, and invest and manage $1,000,000 of the University’s endowment fund.

Another building perk? All COBE faculty have their offices here, so it’s easy to connect with your professors. In fact, the entire building lends itself to a team-based, innovative and world-class business education.

Our faculty brings the world of business right to the classroom. At the Dauch College of Business and Economics, we have 33 faculty members, all of whom have doctoral degrees and/or extensive industry experience, and many who teach both undergraduate- and graduate-level courses. Since no student assistants ever teach classes, you’ll get to know your professors really well and benefit from their real-world experience from the very beginning, especially since our student-to-teacher ratio is just 18:1. Of course, you’ll also get to know more than just your professors. Here, we encourage you to get to know everyone on our staff – easy to do since our doors are always open to all of our students.
