Media Abrasion Measuring System

Media Abrasion Machine (TMAM) & 3-Media Abrasion Tester (TMAM-LS)

Application:

Machine used for measurement of abrasion of dental composites materials.

Description:

Abrasion tests are carried out with the 3-media abrasion machine (on the right side). For this

purpose, a test wheel is constructed with the planned composite material to be subjected to an

abrasion process according to a predefined regimen.

The device TMAM-LS (on the left side) is used in the field of dental research for the

measurement and analysis of abrasion of test wheels already exposed to the 3-media abrasion

machine. The measurement takes place through a modern laser distance sensor and runs

automatically.

Multi-functional Chewing Simulator

CS-4.2

Application:

Abrasion tests are carried out in continuous duty with the chewing simulator CS-4.2 to

determine the wear resistance of composites.

Description:

The machine has two motor driven axles that simulate different chewing patterns. An axle

moves the table on which the sample chambers are mounted. The second axle lifts and sinks a

traverse with weights. These weights touch the antagonists and generate contact pressure during

the abrasive motion. The weight can be determined by the user. The traverse paths of the axles

and the speeds can also be set independently from each other. It is possible to move either the

two axles, or only one of them (e.g. for bruxism simulation).

Toothbrush simulator ZM-3.8

Application:

This device simulates various brushing movements on the surfaces of teeth and testing

samples.

Description:

This device has brushes that are controlled by a central drive system, and the chosen type of

movement is therefore the same for all specimens used in the trial. A high-grade motion

controller guarantees exact speeds and trajectories which can be adjusted with a very high

degree of precision. The motion sequence (teeth cleaning technique) can be freely selected from

a combination of forwards, backwards and circular movements. Complex motion sequences can

be easily programmed by means of an optional software module. The individual specimens may

be of various forms and materials, and may be loaded with various levels of contact pressure.

Up to a maximum of 8 specimens can be tested at the same time. The specimen chambers are

separated from each other so that each specimen can be operated with its own liquid (e.g.

toothpaste-water mix), and individually cleaned.

Thermal Cycler

Application:

The Thermo cycler with its cold and warm bath tanks is used for simulation of thermal cycles.

Description:

An open sample container is immersed cyclically in baths of warm and cold fluid.

Application:

The IsoMet 5000 Linear Precision Saw is an automatic linear saw designed for cutting various

material types (metals, ceramics, polymers, etc.) with minimal deformation.

Description:

The IsoMet 5000 Linear Precision Saw contains a2µm specimen positioning system that allows

for precise positioning and sectioning of specimens using a diamond wafering blade with a

coolant for lubrication of the blades.

MetaServ 250 Grinder-Polisher with Vector Power Head

Application:

The MetaServ 250 Grinder-Polisher is designed for manual or semi-automatic grinding and

polishing.

Description:

The MetaServ250 grinder polisher has a base that can be combined with one of two power

heads. The molded protective housing provides long lasting corrosion and impact resistance.

Each bowl includes a removable splash guard that reduces overspray and allows easy access to

the platen. A built-in drain and bowl wash flush out particles and minimize build-up of grinding-

INSTRON 8871

Application:

The Instron machine is used for evaluating mechanical properties of dental materials by having

tension, compression, flexure (bending), and shear bond tests.

Description:

The machine applies measured forces to a sample of the material to be tested that is placed

between special grips. During application of an increasing load to the specimen, the

corresponding deformation or breaking of the sample is determined. Throughout the tests the

control system and its associated software record the load and extension or compression of the

specimen.

Application:

Utilizing the latest advances in white light interferometry technology, the Contour GT performs

MicroMet 6040 Microhardness Testing Machine

Application

It is suitable for testing samples such as small metallic parts, sheet metal, metal foils, electrical

wire, thin hardened layers, galvanized coatings, glass, etc. Micro hardness testing can generally

be used when Rockwell or other testing methods requiring large load forces are not suitable. In

particular, micro hardness testing is appropriate for induction hardened or carburized materials

to track hardness changes related to microstructural modifications of surface hardened

materials.

Description

Hardness testing permanently deforms a material under a known test force. The magnitude of

the deformation defines the hardness of the material. In a typical measurement the user sets

parameters on the instrument appropriate to the test, places the test specimen on the testing

stage and focuses the eye piece optics on the specimen surface. When the surface of the

specimen is clearly in focus the user presses to start the indentation process. The hardness

tester applies the specified load to the indenter by loading/unloading a motor-driven lever.

When the indenter contacts the specimen surface, the ‘applying load’ stage of the

measurement begins. Once the load has been fully applied the ‘maintain load’ stage occurs

over a duration specified by the predefined dwell time. Once the dwell time has elapsed the

load/unload mechanism withdraws the indenter from the specimen surface. The magnitude of

the indent is then measured using the measurement tools available on the eye piece and from

these measurements the tester calculates the Vickers or Knoops hardness values.

Olympus Crystal Eye Spectrophotometer

Application:

Crystal eye ascertains tooth colors from photographs taken inside the oral cavity, which is

shielded from external light. Then, the laboratory can photograph the prostheses with special

equipment that eliminates external light, providing a true-to-life view of the restoration.

Description:

A spectrophotometer measures light wavelengths that reflect off a tooth using fiber-optics; this

information then is analyzed and compared with various standard shade guides stored in the

computer’s database. It measures hue, chroma, and value, and then presents that data as a digital

shade map of the tooth in the shade system the user chooses. These systems gather data by use

of a sensor, which is held up in close vicinity of the tooth. The captured information is processed

by software, then sent to the dental laboratory either electronically. Each of the following

systems varies somewhat (some are self-contained, others use a sensor that is hard-wired to a

computer), but all use a similar technology to provide the dental team enhanced information

about the characteristics of the tooth that need to be reproduced in the final restoration.

Dental Air Abrasion Machine

Application:

Minimally invasive cavity preparations with alumina particles (sand blasting).

Description:

Air abrasion machine is generally used in dental practice as a micro etcher or dental

‘sandblaster’ and with no direct contact with the tooth structure, it produces no vibration, turbine

noise, heat generation, or smell, and it greatly reduces the need for local anesthesia.

Minor M200 Sieve Shaker

Application:

To expose the particles in a sample to all the openings in each sieve of the stack and obtain

particles of different sizes.

Description:

The Endecotts Minor M200 vibrating shaker is designed to conduct sieve tests in conjunction

with sieve stacks for particle sizing of various material samples. The fixed amplitude shaker is

operated by a single process timer which provides a range of incremental periods or continuous

running.

Impact Testing Machine

Application:

The purpose of impact testing is to measure an object's ability to resist high-rate loading. It is

usually thought of in terms of two objects striking each other at high relative speeds. A part, or

material's ability to resist impact often is one of the determining factors in the service life of a

part, or in the suitability of a designated material for a particular application. Impact resistance

can be one of the most difficult properties to quantify. The ability to quantify this property is a

great advantage in product liability and safety.

Description:

The XJ series of impact testers provides the ultimate step in data acquisition and control. The

testers are available in capacities of 5 Joules, 5.5 J, 22 J, 25 J and 50 J. The XJU series is for

Izod tests and the XJJ is for Charpy tests. Combination Izod and Charpy tests are also offered.

Rotating Evaporator

Application:

The IKA® RV 10 is one of a kind, the only rotary evaporator on the market that features a

clockwise / counter-clockwise interval rotation scheme. Thus in combination with the powder

flask you optimize the drying of all types of colored pigments and powders while saving time

and money.

Description:

All systems are fitted with a user-friendly water/oil bath that includes a powerful 1300 Watt

heater capable of delivering temperatures from room temperature to 180 °C. The heating bath

can also be used on its own, separately to the rotary evaporator, thereby further extending the

range of possible applications. On the basic model, the temperature is controlled using a simple

dial, which is supplemented on the digital and control versions by a digital display showing

target and actual temperatures. The drive motor is another central component of the rotary

evaporator. For the first time, even our basic system now comes with a drive capable of right-

left interval operation as standard. This produces significantly better results, especially in the

case of drying processes. Highly solvent-resistant PTFE seals also ensure that operation of the

system is exceptionally safe, even when used with aggressive organic solvents.

All variants, from basic upwards, are supplied complete with a Woulff bottle. This protects the

vacuum pump against solvent condensation.

Description:

Application:

Sanyo CO2 Incubator incubator serves as the environmental control needed to grow and

maintain bacterial or eukaryotic cell cultures.

Description:

The temperature (usually 37°C), humidity (~95%), and CO2 levels (usually 5%) are all

controlled and closely regulated to ensure an environment optimal for cell growth. Sanyo

Sakura TDE Decalcifier

Description:

The SAKURA TDE™ Decalcifier System is based on a simple electrolytic principle that, in

combination with the TDE™ 30 Solution, decalcifies bones. After decalcification by the

SAKURA TDE™ 30, bones can be sectioned more easily. By using this technique the duration

of the decalcification process is reduced by 60%, which is three times faster than classical

techniques (for example, a femur bone section can be processed in just 15 minutes).

Cassette writer

Description:

Permanently mark tissue cassettes with easy-to-read black type. Uses foil tape and a heated

stylus to imprint characters that maintain legibility even through processing solutions. Printing

may be inverted for reading in either direction. Ability to print barcodes on cassettes. Made to

withstand the workload of busy laboratories, marking approximately 20,000 characters per roll

of tape. Single hopper loading system is ideal for laboratories that use single color cassettes or

have a lower volume. Can be purchased with a PC and preloaded software so it is ready to use

right out of the box. Hopper holds 75 cassettes. A variety of cassettes can be purchased

Leica SP1600 saw microtome

Description:

The Leica SP1600 saw microtome is designed for cutting hard and brittle materials such as

bone and teeth embedded in methyl methacrylate with or without implants with a maximum

size of 35 mm in diameter. Implant materials such as steel, titanium or bio ceramics cause no

problems for the Leica SP1600 saw microtome. It is used in structural bone research

laboratories, dental institutes and various industrial laboratories. The specimen is clamped in

the center of a diamond-coated internal hole saw and pushed by a spring mechanism against the

saw blade which rotates horizontally at a speed of 600 rpm, producing specimen slices of the

desired thickness.

Uses: It is a mechanical instrument used to cut the formalin fixed tissue specimens into very

thin serial segments/ sections for microscopic examination.

Description:

Holds water at a constant temperature to flatten wax or resin sections prior to lifting them onto

a microscope slide. Also used for hot staining except with corrosive substances. The top rim of

the unit has generous space for drying slides. Controls have been recessed to provide the user

with an added measure of safety. A drop-on stainless steel lid is provided to cover the bowl

when not in use. Deep tapered bowl is made from stainless steel to offer maximum resistance

against corrosion. Both the bowl and the upper casing have a matte-black PTFE coating

providing visual contrast against wax sections. Lower steel casing has a resistant epoxy coating.

Power cable has molded connections at both terminals. Power inlet socket at the back of the

unit has fuses on both the negative and positive lines for optimum protection.

Uses: After sectioning the tissues, this instrument is used for floating the ribbons of the cut

tissues to remove the creases and further mounting the sections on the frosted slide.

Hot Plate Thermo

Description:

Thermostatically controlled and designed with a large capacity surface to quickly evaporate

water and solvents from slides and mounting media. Also used for warming wax-embedded

specimens and for hot staining procedures. Slides rest above the surface of the hotplate to

accelerate drying. Top has a matte-black epoxy coating, providing visual contrast against the

wax sections; lower casing is finished in an epoxy coating. The controls are at the front of the

hotplate and are recessed for protection. Thermostat dial allows selection of operating

temperatures in 40° to 95°C range.

Uses: It is used after taking the section on the slide which fix the tissue on the frosted slide.

Description:

Fume-hood Thermo

Description:

Chemical fume hoods provide an extraordinary function. The ability to safely, conveniently

and, at close proximity, work with materials that, otherwise, may be harmful or fatal. Without

laboratory fume hoods many of today's discoveries and conveniences may not exist. Fume

hoods must function properly to deliver the protection promised. At minimum, every fume hood

must be tested annually. The steps required to ensure safe operation are not difficult, should not

be ignored, and are critical to good chemical hygiene. Our firm was recently asked to validate

the performance of twenty two freshly installed chemical fume hoods. In reviewing the provided

specification it became clear that the information was dated and incorrect. This lack of

understanding chemical fume hood standards, performance and requirements is common.

Uses: A fume hood or fume cupboard is a type of local ventilation device that is designed to

limit exposure to hazardous or toxic fumes, vapors or dusts.

Olympus BX51 Microscope

Description:

The BX51 research microscope features a unique two-component frame design, which

optimizes mechanical and thermal stability for the most sophisticated microscopy and imaging

Skyscan 1172

Application:

The SkyScan 1172 is used for in vitro scanning by the use of X-ray micro tomography.

Description:

The SkyScan 1172 represents a new generation in high-resolution desktop X-ray micro

tomography (Micro-CT) systems. It uses x-rays to create cross-sections of a physical object that

is used to create a virtual model (3D model) without destroying the original model. The

combined ability of the sample stage and the x-ray camera to move is a novel architecture which

allows for an unprecedented combination of image resolution, sample size accommodation and

scan speed. The innovative flexible geometry of the SkyScan 1172 scanner is particularly

advantageous over intermediate resolution levels, where scans are several times faster (to obtain

the same or better image quality) compared to micro-CT systems with a fixed source-detector

design.

Application:

Halimeter is the internationally recognized standard clinical instrument, used in the diagnosis

and treatment of chronic halitosis (oral malodor).

Description:

A Halimeter is a clinical instrument used by dentists to diagnose and treat chronic halitosis (bad

breath). The Halimeter can detect the different types and levels of compounds (odorous gases)

that cause most bad breath. This allows your dentist find out where your bad breath comes from

(for example, your tongue, the back of your throat, or elsewhere), decide what the best treatment

is, and monitor the treatment to see if it's working.

Oral Chroma

Description:

The Oral Chroma™ measures the volatile sulfur compounds (VSC) hydrogen sulfide, methyl

mercaptan, and dimethyl sulfide-a major causative factor in halitosis-and displays each gas

concentration. Measuring each component of VSC not only helps to identify the cause of

halitosis, a major symptom of periodontal disease, and to check the efficacy of treatment, but

also enables the patient to see the treatment processes and results. The product motivates

patients to treat halitosis, eventually resulting in an increased number of patients.

In addition to the previously described basic principles, the system configuration is dedicated

for halitosis measurements and the use of major modular components enables accurate
