1. INTRODUCTION
The college of Nursing is one of the departments of Kurji Holy Family Hospital, Patna,
Bihar. It is situated on the southern bank of the river Ganges, Patna-Danapur road. It is 6
kilometers from the Patna Junction Railway Station. The hospital was started in 1940 at
Patna City by the Medical Mission Sisters. In 1958 it was moved to the present location
in Kurji, Patna. The college of Nursing is affiliated to the Arya Bhatta Knowledge
University, Patna, Bihar and recognized by the Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi and
the Bihar Nursing Council and Government of Bihar.
Kurji Holy Family Hospital is managed in partnership by the Medical Mission Sisters and
the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth from the year 2000. It is a 300 bed general hospital,
which provides the necessary clinical experiences to the students. The students go to:
(a) Kanke, Ranchi, Jharkhand for Psychiatric experience and (b) Patna Medical College
Hospital, Patna (c) Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Science College Sheikhpura, Patna
for experiences in the departments of Neurology, Cardiovascular, Burns and Oncology.
2. PHILOSOPHY
We are inspired by the Spirit of Jesus and His teachings which enable us to
render our service to the sick and needy with love and compassion.
We prepare the nurses to keep in pace with the latest professional and
technological developments.
We believe that higher nursing education will be an inspiration for nurses to
develop their potentialities and to function as efficient members of the health
team and contribute generously to society as useful and productive individuals
and citizens.
The organization believes in a system of education that fits in with the changing
educational patterns of the country to meet the health needs of society.
We believe in maintaining an ecological balance and bringing peace and
harmony on the planet through scientific principles of nursing education and
practice.
3. AIMS
To provide an educational programme through which the graduates as
professional nurses will be prepared to assume responsibility in the primary,
secondary and tertiary care of people.
To upgrade the critical thinking skills and standards required for the practice of
professional nursing and midwifery.

To develop excellence in nursing with a view to generate new innovative
approaches in the health-care system.
To assume the role of teachers, supervisors and managers in clinical and public
health settings.
To facilitate in conducting research studies in the area of nursing practice.
To build upon the skills and competence acquired at the diploma level of
nursing.
4. OBJECTIVES
After completion of the B.Sc. Nursing Degree Programme, the graduates will be able to:
(1) Demonstrate competency in nursing skills.
(2) Participate as members of a health team in the preventive, curative and restorative
health care delivery system of the country.
(3) Assess health status and identify nursing needs, plan, implement and evaluate
nursing care for patients that contribute to the health of individuals, families &
communities.
(4) Demonstrate leadership qualities and decision making abilities in various situations
with regard to nursing care.
(5) Participate in research activities and utilize the findings in improving nursing
standards.
(6) Recognize the needs for continued learning for their personal and professional
development.
(7) Practise ethical values in their professional and personal lives.
(8) Communicate effectively with individuals, groups, and members of the health team
in order to promote effective interpersonal relationships and team work.
(9) Demonstrate skills in teaching to individuals and groups in clinical/community health
settings.

6. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
I. Post - Basic B.Sc. Nursing
Minimum eligibility criteria : GNM Pass only.
Duration of the Course : Two years.
Admission will be granted on the basis of entrance tests comprising of a written test,
interview and physical check up.
The applicant should fill the Application Form in her/his own handwriting.
Any false information given on the Application Form, will lead to disqualification.
The completed Application Form along with all the required documents are to be
submitted by May 15.
The applicant should be a member of T.N.A.I.
Age limit: 45 years at the time of admission.
DAY SCHOLARS ARE NOT ALLOWED FOR ANY NURSING PROGRAMME.
(1) Information for Entrance Test.
(2) Bring the Admit Card with the candidate’s photo pasted.
An entrance Test for admission to (two year) Post-Basic B.Sc Nursing course
will be conducted by the college. A list of the successful candidates, who
qualify through this test, will be prepared in the order of merit. The successful
candidates will be called for an interview on the following day of the entrance
test. Candidates coming for the interview must bring the following Original
Documents:
a) Diploma of GNM or RNRM training.
b) GNM or RNRM Registration Certificate.
c) Transcript of the Nursing School.
d) Mark Sheets of class 10 & class 12 & G.N.M./RNRM
e) 3 copies of a recent passport size photograph.
f) One stamp size photograph.
Provisionally selected candidates are required to undergo a physical check up.
After the medical fitness check up, each candidate is required to deposit Rs.
15,000/- as a seat reservation fee, which is non-refundable. The payment may
be made in cash or by a demand draft drawn in favour of KHFHS College of
Nursing, payable at HDFC Bank Ltd., Patliputra Branch, Code No.HDFC0002643
Patna.

(3) Medium of CURRICULUM TRANSACTION
As the Medium of instruction is English, the candidate should be able to speak
and write in English fluently.
(4) At the time of submission of the application form the
candidate should:
a. Fill the application form with a pasted self attested passport size
photograph.
b. Enclose attested copies of the following documents:
Diploma of GNM or RNRM training.
GNM or RNRM Registration Certificate.
Transcript of Nursing School.
No objection Certificate from the last employer.
Recommendation Letters from the Principal of the Nursing School last
attended and the last Employer.
A Character Certificate.
Mark Sheets of the class 10 & class 12 & G.N.M./ RNRM exams.
Migration Certificate of the Board/Council/University.
3 copies of a recent passport size photograph.
One stamp size photograph.
For the sponsored candidate, a letter from the authorized person
with the specific direction regarding payment.
7. B.Sc. (Hons.) Nursing. Eligibility criteria : Class 12 pass with 45% in science subjects.
(Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English or 50%
aggregate).
Duration of Course : Four years.
1. The minimum age for admission is 17 years on or before 31st December of the
year of admission.
2. Should have passed the class 12 as a regular student under 10+2 scheme or an
equivalent examination recognized by the university for this purpose, with the
subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English.

3. Should have class 12th pass with 45% in science subjects (Physics,
Chemistry, Biology and English) or 50% aggregate or an equivalent examination,
provided the student has passed in each subject separately.
4. Must have working knowledge in Hindi.
5. Only female candidates in good health at least 5 feet (150 cm) height and 40 kg
weight are eligible.
6. Candidates should be medically fit.
7. The general standard of the competitive Entrance Examination will be that of the
class 12 under the 10 + 2 scheme/Pre university/Intermediate Science or an
equivalent examination of an Indian University or Board. The selection test will
be of two hours duration and will contain multiple choice (objective type)
questions.
8. Those who have appeared for the +2 examination and the results not out also
are provisionally eligible to apply and appear in the entrance examination.
8. APPLICATION PROCEDURES
The Application and Prospectus will be issued on CASH payment OR D.D. for Rs.
500/- in favour of KHFHS College of Nursing, payable at HDFC Bank Ltd.,
Patliputra Branch, Code No.HDFC0002643 Patna.
1. The completed application form should reach the College office on or before
the prescribed date (May 15, 2013).
2. The following should be enclosed along with the application form:-
i. The application form duly filled.
ii. The attested Photostat copy of mark sheets and certificates (Class X and
XII).
iii. The migration certificate.
iv. Two self addressed stamped envelopes of 27 X 12 cms. size with postage
stamp of Rs.50/
v. The transfer certificate.
vi. Two recommendation letters:-
a. One from the Principal of the school/college where the applicant
studied.
b. One from the Parish Priest or Pastor.
OR
A person of Social Standing not related to the candidate.
vii. The caste certificate (SC, ST, OBC).
viii. Annual Income Certificate.

N.B.: If the class 12 results are not yet declared, the school mark sheet must be
brought along at the time of interview.
9. Criteria for Selection
1. The selection of the candidates for admission to B.Sc. (Hons.) Nursing Course
will be made on the basis of the selection test followed by the interview.
2. The decision of the selection committee will be final.
3. Those who qualify will have to undergo a medical check up for fitness at the
Kurji Holy Family Hospital, Patna, for which they will have to bear the
expenses.
4. An Incomplete application will not be considered.
5. The selection for admission will be made on a basis of high percentage of
marks obtained in the 10+2 or equivalent examination.
6. As the teaching is done in English, the applicants should be able to speak,
write and understand English.
7. The candidate will deposit Rs. 15,000/- as a seat reservation fee after the
medical fitness is confirmed which is nonrefundable. The payments may be
made in CASH or by a D.D. in favour of KHFHS College of Nursing, payable at
HDFC Bank Ltd., Patliputra Branch, Code No.HDFC0002643 Patna.
8. The duration of the course is 4 years including internship. In case of
discontinuation, the candidate will have to pay Rs. 20,000/- in the 1st year and
additional 20,000/- for each academic year.
9. The admission granted is provisional until the Migration Certificate is
submitted and subject to the approval by Arya Bhatta Knowledge University,
Patna, Bihar.
10. Candidates selected for the entrance and interview should bring along the
following Original Certificates:-
i. Birth Certificate (only original Secondary School leaving certificate will
be accepted for the proof of date of birth.)
ii. Mark Sheets of class 10 and class 12 or PUC Examination
iii. Caste Certificate (SC, ST, OBC)
iv. Migration Certificate
v. Transfer Certificate

What the candidate “SHOULD DO” before entering the examination Hall.

a. The candidate must reach the examination centre 15 minutes prior to
commencement of the examination.
b. The candidates must carry:
A valid Admit Card
H.B. Pencil
Blue Ball Pen
Ruler
Eraser
c. No candidate will be allowed admission to the examination hall, 15 minutes
after the commencement of the examination. They will also not be allowed
to leave the examination hall until the completion of the examination.
d. Electronic gadgets such as Calculator, Electronic diary, Mobile Phone, will not
be allowed in the examination hall.
e. A candidate will be treated as disqualified, if she is found guilty of one of the
following practices:
Tampering with the Admit Card or pasted photograph.
Disturbing the seat arrangement in the examination hall.
Using unfair means.
f. Tearing off any page will disqualify the candidate from the examination and
debar her/him from future examinations.
g. The candidate will be bound by the College and University rules and
regulations.
11. What the Candidate “SHOULD DO” after receiving the composite test booklet
a. Must verify the test booklet to ensure that it contains all the pages.
b. Must circle the multiple choice questions (A, B, C, D) with a ball pen.
c. Must complete the test within the 2 hours (9.30-11.30 a.m.) given.

N.B. 1. Teaching of Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacology and Pathology are
integrated with the Clinical Subjects.
2. In each of the papers of theory and practice a minimum of 50% is
necessary for passing.
3. A candidate has to secure a minimum of 40% in each of the
qualifying subjects for passing.
13. FEES
(1) The candidates should submit 100% fees on admission for the 1st year. The
fees for the 2nd year can be submitted in two installments during the second
year, in the month of July and January of the academic year.
(2) The students are to pay the University Fee and Examination Fee from time to
time as prescribed by the University
Note: Fees and deposits paid are not refundable if a candidate decides to
discontinue the training for whatever reason, after a period of 7 days of the
admission and payment. However, the admission fee will not be refunded at
any time.

14. Vacation

- All the institutional holidays will be observed by the College
- Sick -leave must be made up before the examination forms are filled.

B.Sc. (Hons) Nursing
Vacation will be given each year as follows:-
Annual leave 4 weeks
Study leave 2 weeks
a. In case of serious illness or for any other emergency reason leave is taken
or extended during the academic year; leave will have to be adjusted by
extending the student period. Incase a student has less than 80%
attendance in clinical and theory; she will have to complete it before the
final exam of each year.
b. All the institutional holidays will be observed by the college.
c. Vacations are planned according to the programmes of study of each
year.
d. The minimum pass marks will be 50% in each of the theory and practical
papers, separately.
e. A candidate must have a minimum of 80% attendance (irrespective of the
kind of absence) in theory and practice in each subject, to be eligible for
the examination.
17. Practical Hours.
A candidate of any nursing programme, even though she has passed with 80%
attendance in the practical, must ensure 100% attendance for practicals.
Candidates’ mark sheets, degree certificate and course completion certificate
shall be withheld until requirements are met by such candidates.
18. Hostel Accommodation
All the students must reside in the hostel. Students are expected to strictly
follow the rules and regulations of the hostel.
All the students are to take meals from the Hospital Cafeteria.
a. Vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals are provided in the cafeteria.
b. Cooking is not allowed in the rooms.

19. GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS
(1) Students must wear the prescribed uniform.
(2) All students are expected to observe the rules and regulations of the
College, Hospital and University, as well as the regulations of the hostel.
They will pay college fees and mess charges on time.
(3) All students will undergo practical training in Kurji Holy Family
Hospital/Health Centre/Affiliated specialty centers.
(4) Students will undertake all types of duties of nursing in the clinical area
and have to follow the rules and instructions of the College and the
Hospital Authorities.
(5) Besides the curricular activities, the students are expected to participate
in all the extra-curricular activities; which are arranged by the College.
(6) 80% attendance in theory and practical classes is compulsory for
appearing in the University examination and must have 100% attendance
in each of the practical areas before the awarding of the degree.
(7) If a student decides to discontinue the training for any reason or if the
management asks a student to discontinue the training due to a
disciplinary action, she/he will have to pay the indemnity amount
mentioned below as per the year of leaving:
1st year Rs. 20,000/-
2nd year Rs. 20,000/- and so on……
(8) Ragging is strictly forbidden in the college of nursing and in the campus.
(9) At the time of joining, students are required to give a declaration letter
stating therein that if found guilty of any kind of ragging activities, they
will be liable to be suspended or dismissed.
(10) Students if found doing any act of dishonesty, carrying out any unethical
activity or not adhering to the rules of the College of Nursing or hostel
may be asked to leave the College of Nursing. They will not be entitled to
the refund of tuition fee or any other fee, whatsoever it may be.
Furnishing of Incorrect Information
If incase, at any stage, it is found that a candidate has furnished false
information in the application form or has produced false certificates ,
her/his admission even if granted will be cancelled and fee paid be
forfeited.
